My progress - Jean

Page 1 of 3Next

I'm new to the low vitamin A diet, I am a 44 yo gentleman from Paris, been suffering from digestive and mental disorders for 35 years or so. I've done 6 liver flushes with temporary symptom relief but they keep coming back.

Main symptoms are:

  • Poor digestion: Gastritis, reflux, slow emptying of the stomach, low appetite, nausea, excessive belching, constipation, gas, bloating, food sensitivities, gut pain when I eat spicy food or ginger.
  • Sleep problems: Insomnia, inability to fall asleep, interrupted sleep, waking up not refreshed.
  • Mental issues: Brain fog, lethargy, fatigue, depression, anxiety (especially in social context), stage fright, lack of motivation, lack of focus, disorganised, feeling overwhelmed, poor memory, slurred speech, inability to make decisions, can't stick to a schedule, feeling of confusion, low self esteem, self isolation, loneliness.

Other symptoms:

Joint pain (osteoarthritis on knees, elbows and neck), excessive sweating with low grade exercise, extreme itchy scalp, dry, dull and coarse hair, hair loss, body odour, acne, enlarged pores and black heads,  lot of mucous formation in my throat which stifles my voice, weak voice projection, low libido.

I will report back on my low vitamin A progress,  hope I will find support and guidance in this group. Many thanks!

@jean and why you think you have chronic vit A toxicity? You say you are 44yo and you have issues 35 years? So 9yo health issues started? It doesn't look like vit A toxicity to me.. But we need to know more how looked your life, stress levels, what was your diet, any meds or supps you were taking etc..

Sounds like a classic case of vitamin A toxicity, which you can acquire before you're even conceived. I had all of the symptoms you listed, but after 3 years on the diet they've been almost completely resolved.

Do you remember the order which you gained the symptoms? I believe the earlier they appeared, the longer it will take to resolve. The latest symptoms disappear first, at least it did for me and a few others.

Welcome! As someone who has had great results in the mental/emotional health department on this detox, I can testify that it is worth a try. All the best!

@jiri My digestive/mental issues are running in my family, I come from a family of butchers, my grand father suffered from the same health problems, my mother also, and now me. I consumed a lot of meat (incl. liver), butter, dairy, eggs, oranges throughout my life. I also consumed a lot of sugary drinks, sweets, cakes, chocolates, and antibiotics in my childhood, my digestive issues started to show up when I was 7-8 years old with gas, constipation, nausea, indigestion and fatigue. I had a delayed growth, I remember always being amongst the smallest in my classroom, I started growing up when I was 16-17

I started lifting weights in my twenties, took a lot of supplements (protein, creatine, amino acid, cod liver oil) and was over eating to gain weight. Never been particularly stressed, apart perhaps in my thirties when I used to work in banking.

I have been diagnosed with IBS-C and depression by doctors, they prescribed me antidepressants which I refused to take. Did multiple gastroscopies and got diagnosed with gastritis with inflammation of the duodenum. X-ray scan showed a backed up colon with fecal matters, and the echography showed excessive gas in my guts.

@tobias The constipation/gas/bloating/gastroparesis came first, then the fatigue, lethargy/depression, then all the other symptoms came up later on in life, like joint pain, nausea, excessive sweating, mucous, weak voice, stage fright.

I remember a time in my childhood where I used to be extremely extravert, joyful, spontaneous, creative, energised, enthusiastic and social. Over time, I became a very different person, secluded, shy, depressed and fearful.

Ive tried so many diets, so many protocols to regain health, and return to my true self, nothing really worked. Now embarking on the the vit A journey combined with liver flushing.

@margo, That is encouraging. How long did it take you to start feeling better in this department?

@tobias I forgot to mention that along with my loss of libido, Im now gaining fat on my belly, and muscle mass is reducing even though I keep training.

@jean about 24 hours, but I don’t think that should be considered the expectation. I have been very fortunate.

I will say that the detox induced some new mental health issues of its own, which I plan to post about soon. Most of those are resolved now, and they were never as unpleasant as my pre-detox issues.

All in all though, it has been life-changing.

@jean hi there!

I have a lot of the symptoms that you described, the main ones are constipation, brain fog and bloating(in my case abdominal distention 24/7), the part where you mentioned the image exams that you did, i've done exactly the same as you. It did showed backed up faeces in the colon, mainly on the ascendent and transverse colon, it was an MRI with contrast exam. In a ecography they found a lot of "trapped gas" as well. So basically we have these same symptoms, I'm 25 now, started having these symptoms around 22 yo. I found out about vit A toxicity in 2022 january , 1 year by now, and adjust my diet to this approach, but have not had improvement in any symptom. I'm not trying to discourage you but it seems that if one doesn't fix the bowel movements and the detox pathways it is hard to get anything detoxed, whatever that might be. I'm still trying to figure out a way to getting bowel movements regularly, but still no sucess, my diet before the symptoms was basically Eggs( 5 to 7 a day) most of the time boiled, chicken breast( cooked with coconut oil), tapioca, banana and peanut butter. These were the staples before everything fell apart. So as you can see this was not a diet huge in vit A, but I think i was overdoing a lot of fats,,(peanut butter and coconut oil) and that may have led to dysbiosis and cholestasis(maybe?). In a feaces exam i did a year ago the results showed starch, proteins- intact and semi intact albumin- ( which indicates inflammation in the colon) and possibly low stomach acid. My conclusion is: we have to find a way to get the mainly pathway of detoxing working( bowel movements).
