Paul Saladino

@jiri

I've never had my own body fat measured, but I can almost guarantee it's as low or lower than Paul's.  I've been super lean and highly active in athletics my entire life, and have essentially been on a low-fat high-carb diet until recently.  The veins on my forearms have always stood out considerably more than the average person, but I don't recall ever having veins popping out around my neck, chest, or upper arms...when I see that in someone, it seems like an obvious sign of bodily stress.  If that stress came from just lifting weights, I'd say that's probably reasonably normal so long as the super popped veins go back down in time, but having them constantly popping out in those areas seems really unhealthy, especially in someone of Paul's stature.

@jeremy

I mentioned Paul's connection with Liver King because, with the exposure of Liver King's bullshit, Paul's company and image might take a serious hit and collapse.  I watched that More Plates More Dates analysis of Liver King's emails and the guy was living on protein shakes, dextrose, maple syrup, dairy, eggs, and liver.  His emails indicated he was eating only a pound of meat per day!  I haven't watched the video analysis of his bloodwork yet, but I'd imagine his own liver was not too happy...

Here's the Liver King's daily intake from the leaked email:

1st meal: 45g protein shake, 60g dextrose, 100g whole Greek yogurt, 30g maple syrup, 4 eggs, 5g creatine, 10g collagen, 30g almond butter, 20g ghee, 5g salt, 2oz red meat

2nd meal: 45g protein shake, 60g dextrose, 100g whole Greek yogurt, 60g maple syrup, 4 eggs, 5g creatine, 10g collagen, 30g almond butter, 20g ghee, 5g salt, 2-4oz liver, 30g bone marrow

3rd meal: 12oz fatty red meat, 100-200g sweet potato

Pre-bed snack: 30g protein shake, 2oz red meat

Ancestral diet my ass!

@wavygravygadzooks it is completely normal to have veins like that when you are very lean and have some muscles under that thin skin. I don't know what kind of stress you talking about. The veins pop out when you speak which is normal. Show me your photo if you are really lean like Paul.. This photo is me when I stopped with bodybuilding and was doing a lot of road cycling.. I don't know my BF %, but it is much higher than Paul. Paul is really really lean...

Have you looked at photos of starving people or those with malnutrition?  I don't see those veins around the neck, shoulders, chest, and upper arms popping out on such people, and you definitely can't argue with the fact that starving people have the least amount of body fat possible!

I don't have topless photos to share, I've never been the Instagram selfie type.  And I won't bother to take one now because my fitness is quite low compared to what it used to be, due to all this damn detox stuff, and it wouldn't be representative of my appearance before my health tanked.

Doing a quick search, the bulging veins appear to be the result of increased blood pressure in the arteries and/or swelling of the muscles.  Low body fat enhances the effect.  Obviously, this is a natural response to an intense workout and I wouldn't worry about it then.  But if the effect lasts for days after resting, then it seems like there could be reason for concern.  Doesn't it seem potentially unhealthy to have your veins constantly displaced from their normal location when that displacement is essentially the result of swelling that pushes the veins out of position?  Supposedly there is not increased pressure inside the veins, but there is increased pressure from the outside of the veins, and there is probably increased pressure in the arteries.  As with everything, it's context dependent...

@wavygravygadzooks A small percentage of the customers of Paul Saladino's company probably know about his business partnership with Brian Johnson, aka Liver King. Interestingly, Liver King never put his social media character on his 100% owned business, Ancestral Supplements. The latter company long predated the social media rise of Liver King. Liver King has newer supplements that he sells under his Liver King brand.

I mentioned the leaked Liver King emails in a previous post. My point was that those leaked are emails are before he went public on social media. We don't know what he is eating today.

Realistically, we don't actually know what he was ever eating...  What was presented in that email may not have been representative of his diet for any length of time, who knows.  He's probably always been a liar, just doubled down on the tactic one his social media status (and rapidly growing wealth) depended on it.

@wavygravygadzooks How can you compare healthy muscular person that workouts a lot with malnurished people who have low blood pressure, low metabolism, low nitrix oxide, low heamoglobin etc.? Are you kidding me? I don't know what is your deal with his veins. He is on the sun which makes more nitrix oxide, he is hyped up to look energetic in the video and it is completely normal for veins to pop up like that especially for athletes who have much better cardiovascular function. Obviously he deosn't have veins like that when he is chilling out and just watching netflix..

You can see on this video he has just veiny arms who everyone has if he works out a lot and is lean no veisn in his neck. But when you exhaling during the speaking your CO2 in the blood goes up and veins will get bigger. Nothing unusual. Just look at singers and their veiny necks.. I have also veiny neck and chest and shoulders if I exhail for a long time or hold my breath and push it to create higher blood pressure.. It is completely normal.

@anna2 I was on steroids, I was very into the fitness/bodybuidling for decade. Paul doesn't have to be on peds to look like that. He looks good, but he is small. Now if he had muscle fullness with this low body fat like liver king it is completely different story.

You said: "what is up with Saladinos veins? Well he is like 7% body fat. So very lean body.."

I'm saying, if it were due to low body fat alone, then you would expect to see something similar in starving/malnourished people who have less body fat than you or Paul or anyone else.  And you don't see that.

As I already mentioned, low body fat enhances the effect, but what seems to underlie it is being swole and/or high blood pressure.  After a workout...fine.  But if some of those veins do continue to pop when "you're chilling out and just watching Netflix" on a down day...is that really healthy?

"But when you exhaling during the speaking your CO2 in the blood goes up and veins will get bigger. Nothing unusual. Just look at singers and their veiny necks.. I have also veiny neck and chest and shoulders if I exhail for a long time or hold my breath and push it to create higher blood pressure.. It is completely normal."

--- Yeah, but my point is those are all temporary STRAINS on the body that cause that, emphasis on temporary.  IF your veins look like that at rest long-term, that suggests ongoing background strain.  I don't know if or how long Paul or anyone else experiences something like that, I just noticed his veins seemed to be popping out in his videos a lot lately and was wondering if he's intentionally lifting weights right before his videos to get that look or if it's more constant for him.

@wavygravygadzooks

"I'm saying, if it were due to low body fat alone, then you would expect to see something similar in starving/malnourished people who have less body fat than you or Paul or anyone else.  And you don't see that."

I said it already. It is completely different to be low body fat, low muscle mass due to starving and low body fat with muscular body due to healthy metabolism, good diet with ideal calorie balance and exercise..

Anyway if you think Saladino will die within a motnh because his neck veins pop out during speaking what you say about Dr. Cassar for example? HEHE..  I really don't know what is your deal here.. Every single person who I know and is lean and workout or has hard manual labor job has veins all over. Much bigger than Saladino..

Well, personally, I think Paul's overall physique is that of an ideal human, putting aside the vein thing.  I think having much more muscle or definition than what he's got is kind of freakish and obsessive, and the look that Cassar has is definitely freakish to me...but, to each their own, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  I know that some bodybuilders think of themselves as sculptors of human flesh, which I can certainly appreciate being into the visual arts myself...I just personally find anything that appears dramatically unnatural to be generally unappealing (unnatural meaning you don't see this in naturally occurring indigenous groups, probably because they typically lack the resources and motivation to do this to themselves).

This is hardly proof of anything, but it's interesting that their analysis showed a much higher rate of mortality due to cardiovascular complications among pro bodybuilders than among the general population of males or males in a couple other sports, especially since the overall rate of mortality among pro bodybuilders was less than the general population.  Piles of confounding variables to be sure, but it should make you ask questions rather than assume that you are going to live longer/healthier because of your jacked physique.
