Quote from Mokus on December 9, 2018, 3:55 pmMany thanks Grant for all you have done. I greatly appreciate it.
I have been following a lower VA diet for 2 months. Interestingly I had already changed the month before to porridge for breakfast and therefore much less eggs. I have chosen not to be too pedantic and adapt to new things to cook. I figure this is longer term and I want to give myself and my eleven year old the best chance.
My main issues have been insomnia, vision blurriness, hayfever, extra weight, fatigue and other seemingly minor things like some joint pain, muscle tension.
For the first 10 days I had shocking sleep. Now I am sleeping deeply with only 1-2 wakeups. On and off I get a fuzzy head, middle of forehead sickly feeling which I have previously associated with detox. This has come and gone over the 2 months.
1 month - I had hayfever, sniffles, neck/occiput tension and generally unwell. Once better I have had raspy throat, husky voice and sniffles for 1-2 weeks.
Things that I think are linked - A few hours in the sun I can get headaches, fatigue, nausea. My daughter gets sick a few times a year with nausea, vomiting, malaise. This happened when I was reading Grant's first book and I think her body was trying to detox VA. I also realised that I can get sick in a similar way, with occiput tension and nausea.
Currently I have just had respriatory stuff for a week, dry face feeling at night - throat, itchy ears, glands up and tight neck. This is now easing. In the last week I have also had a strange sore on my forearm like a blister has just burst and the skin is coming off but not sore. Bizarre as it was a freckle beforehand. I suspect it was once a suspect skin cancer thing that I had treated a year ago at home.
Great to read all the posts thanks everybody

I started vitamin A free diet 3 months ago and I have finally eliminated eczema on my chest and around the eyes and acne between eyebrows and on my back. Also I stopped having crazy skin rashes(and eczema) on chest , face and forehead that i had whenever I was walking in intense sunlight or doing some heavy work that causes sweating. In September 2017. I almost stopped eating liver (got sick from it) and considerably reduced intake of dairy products(but continued eating eggs, butter, ketchup, and other foods with beta carotene) and noticed decreased sebum and earwax production and less acne but no improvement in eczema and skin rashes. Now I have noticed gradual decrease in both sebum and earwax production too. Also much less oily hair. In the first 2-3 weeks wheat seemed to cause slight breakouts of eczema around the eyes and minor acne between eyebrows...Last week I have been eating lots of wheat noodles and Chinese dumplings and I haven't noticed any problems.
Foods that I have been eating during these three months are
Wheat( noodles and dumplings in gelatinous soups, breads and pastries , both homemade and some store bought)
Some white rice usually fried and cooked with chicken and some broth(I don't like steamed white rice and find it very boring and unappetizing in large quantities)
French fries( fried in sunflower oil)
Mashed white potatoes with margarine
Lean beef,
Lean pork
Some chicken and some fish
Pepsi, Cola and other soft drinks
Some apple juice(store bought)
Apple pie with filo and puff pastries
From fats i have been using only refined sunflower oil and some margarine But am planning on experimenting with lard or tallow but I am still sceptical because animal fats also store toxins . And I think that saturated fats actually can cause insulin resistance when eaten with carbohydrates because their oxidation(which is induced by just a little glucose) blocks carbohydrate metabolism. Not refined vegetable oils because I think that tthey, escpecially when already oxidized, do not interfere with carbohydrate metabolism at all. l have theory that all hype about "dangers" of refined oils is not based on any real world evidence. Refined oils are already oxidized outside of the body and as I said will not interfere with carbohydrate metabolism and I think that they just pass through our body and maybe even stimulate bile that helps with bowel movements.
Some sauerkraut, white cabbage, onion , bacon, celery root and parsnips for flavouring my gelatinuous souops and meat dishes
White sugar, salt, soy sauce, some tamari ,

I would caution against using much bacon or lard because pigs specifically store vitamin A in their fat and other tissues like humans.
My daughter's eczema did not respond well to beef fat. I read that it can work to stimulate retinol receptors making it easier for your body to absorb vitamin A. I'm guessing this is the reason why.

I am using smoked bacon just as a spice. So very little. I dont eat lard.
Ah, ok. I was just responding in regards to your comment about planning to experiment with lard or tallow.

It was more like a speculation and I don't think I will going to add lard or tallow in fact I will probably replace bacon with smoked pork meat/bones
