Progress / Experiences with low vitamin A diet.

That was Bella. It posted as guest.

Thanks, yes it seems to be that butter isn't a free pass in terms of vitamin A. Most people seem to be saying they do better without it. I was having some double cream (heavy cream) in my coffee as I felt it was basically the same thing as butter, but I felt I did better without that, too. Personally, using beef tallow and coconut oil seems to be working well.

Good to know about the butter and cream Harry! Perhaps we are extra overloaded. BTW I forgot to mention I eat some corn products from time to time too like tortilla chips and grits/polenta.

I also like mushrooms. They make a nice addition to a serving of bison (or beef) and rice.

Grits/polenta and corn tortilla chips (Honest Jackson brand cooked in coconut oil) seem fine for me.

I'm having increased appetite now. Are any of you that noticed it before still experiencing that or has it resolved?

Mine settled down after a while, but that's partly because I went on holiday and didn't keep to the low vitamin A plan. Since i've come back, i've restarted and it hasn't happened yet. It happened after about 3 weeks for me. It was pretty frustrating, I was having to eat well over 4000, sometimes 5000+ calories a day!

Thanks, that's interesting. I'm needing about 500 more calories per day it seems but I'm close to 50 and a small female so it's quite a jump for me. I'm not having any issues with the extra intake and actually feel good it's just somewhat inconvenient.

Did you do ok on holiday when you weren't able to follow low A?

Yeh I was fine, I put on a bit of weight in spite of eating less, but that was ok as I’d actually got a little too thin before I went away. I don’t have a full blown autoimmune disease, but I do have some confusing skin issues (chronic hives and lots of redness), as well as insomnia, and I’d wondered if this was the cause, so wanted to try the diet anyway. Because my symptoms tend to come and go, it’s hard to tell if there’s a direct effect from the diet yet. Well, other than the appetite change and the weight loss.

come to think of it, I’m still probably eating more calories than I used to, but the difference isn’t as significant. There was one day where I must have spent half of it in the kitchen, I was just absolutely insatiable!

It makes me wonder if eliminating/reducing A is increasing the metabolism!
