"Maple syrup is typically about 50-75% sucrose, less than 10% glucose and less than 4% fructose. That’s still a whole lot of sugar. But what those numbers don’t show are the benefits you get from all of the minerals in maple. Maple syrup contains Calcium, Potassium, Iron, Zinc and Manganese. "
In general, I think of maple syrup as pretty organic, as it is created in natural forests. Boiling it down can be a bit of a chore, and I've found that different methods give different taste results. I bet that if problems are "added" to maple syrup it is during boil-down. Maybe with things like teflon?
I actually don't have much of a sweet tooth, although lately I'm addicted to pineapple.

Dextrose is easy to digest. Rice makes me feel weird. It's all about the gut. I fight on two fronts: vitamin A bastards on the left, little armies of critters on the right. Occasionally I use vitamin K because I get so little in my diet. The starch in the wheat has to be broken down into sugar, and in the meantime the bacteria have a field day.

Quote from Viktor2 on May 24, 2025, 2:53 amI'm not active here anymore, but just for the record, in case some newbies (or oldies!) are wondering, a quick update after almost 2.5 years (one year trying to compromise diet with my family, then we decided that my wife and I cook separately, except on weekends).
I feel much better and will keep going like this. No nightly getting up to pee. Higher testosterone (not measured, but I feel the difference). Good sun tolerance. Better sleep, wake up refreshed in the morning. Allergies better, but still room for improvement.
Diet is medium-high VA. Tons of carbs, oats, rice, potatoes, pasta, bread (unfortified, lucky to live in Germany!). Regular beef, chicken, lean pork. Zucchini, cucumber (both peeled), onions, mushrooms. Bananas, apples. Up to 2 eggs per day, some butter, some cheese. Almost no carotene, expect the occasional pizza.
I supplement zinc, Mg, Se, Molybdenum, a bit of VC, sometimes B complex, folate.

Quote from Viktor2 on June 6, 2025, 10:41 amHi @jiri, sorry this went into the spam folder... I don't take huge doses.
Zn is 25mg as glycinate 4x/week
Se is 200ug as a mix of different Se compounds 3x/w
Moly is 150ug KMb about 2x/w
400ug Methylfolate 3x/w
VC is about 120mg per day, buffered
B complex is 3xRDA mostly 1-2x/wI'm also trying some flush Niacin and Lactoferrin, but they seem to give me strong symptoms, so baby steps only.

Quote from Jiří on June 11, 2025, 10:13 pm@viktor2 I was looking what I was taking. 31 different stuff like vitamins, minerals, amino acids etc.. 😀 Right now I am thinking about sulfur again and iodine. Had soft nails, thin hair. So seems like low keratin I avoided sulfur rich foods for a long time because I was taking MSM years ago in high doses without balancing it with molybdenum etc.. So I just created huge dysbalance so I stopped.. Now I am taking garlic extract for some time as antibacterial and my nails are much stronger. So will add some MSM again but just moderate doses like 5g not 30 like I did before. Megadosing one thing is stupid heh. That's why I have like almost all micronutrients in supplement and I take all of them(no vit A, copper, iron obviously) but not all the time. To keep the show running, but not creating any bottle necks.. and I suspect low iodine as well due to my high TSH and low T4 all the time + issues with painful lymph nodes under ears that I had like forever. So I suspect some chronic infection. My total white blood cells are always low and other immune cells always low or high. Iodine shoud take care of that as well. But again not crazy doses and with selenium etc.. I use magnesium chloride as well.. Mixing with little water to create oil and spray whole body like two times a week. But the ideal would be living next to ocean. I think that is the best way how to stay saturated with electrolytes and iodine..
I like to look on this website from time to time to remind myself the relationship between elements etc. https://acu-cell.com/

Quote from Viktor2 on June 12, 2025, 11:54 amYeah, I forgot I'm also taking some Lugol's solution, I think it's Iodine and K Iodide. Started with one drop a week, got some light side effects at first, sleep slightly worse, after that improved I bumped it up to 3 drops 5x/week, which sometimes gave me weird pimples on my legs. Right now at 2 drops 5x/week, which I tolerate well.

Yeah and the problem is that without good testing we have no idea how much selenium we actually need in any given time especially when we megadose iodine. Some people could run into trouble with 200mcg and some could need even 2000mcg for example..
Heh for me it seems I am going in circles, because I again started with higher dose of iodine and again run into issues. But now I hope that I see the bigger picture of my situation more clearly. Simply because I still have low bioavailable copper that means my SOD enzyme is down and that means that until I fix this my ability to handle more ROS(oxidative stress) will be low. So everything I am trying to do to increase my metabolism now like taking iodine, like eating more, like exercising more etc.. makes me feel like I am in my deathbed basically..
To understand how iodine does this Chris helped me a lot with this video where I put everything together.. Funny thing is like I said I watched this video like 2 years ago and here I am taking high doses of iodine again having the same issues. But that is because I was not addressing my root cause issues which I think are excess of iron(I knew that it was a issue for me and I kept eating even more red meat..) and copper which they are making excess of ROS and make it hard for my body to use that copper which results in low SOD enzyme and so because I can't handle excess of oxidative stress and making thyroid hormone creates a lot of ROS my body simply can't make it. So here I am stuck in this vicious circle. Now I started taking some T4 again which bypasses this messy process of making T4 so hopefully that will increase my bioavailable copper, which will increase the ability of my body to handle more ROS whiches makes it possible for my thyroid to make T4 and so this whole machine can start running at full speed again. I started again with some copper antagonists(great info here https://acu-cell.com/crcu.html ) like chromium, more sulfur, little more selenium, but most importantly keeping iodine lower for now under 1mg and lowering iron by avoiding red meat and ideally bleeding.. ALso I stopped all that excessive exercise that I did for years(riding bike high intensity for hours at the time) in combination with high sugar intake to fuel that exercise. I can only imagine that crazy oxidative stress that I created with it that was damaging my body..
So I am really thankful that this video is there to remind me what is going on when thyroid makes thyroid homeones. Otherwise I would just push huge doses of iodine, basically killing myself with excess of oxidative stress thinking that it is herx reaction from detoxing.. We all want simple solutions like take some one supplement in mega dose or eat some simple one sided diet and just not think about anything and be ok, but unfortunately it is the exact opposite of what most of us need to do to rebalance the body and be healthy again.. 🙁 Sorry for long post like that in your thread.
