Questions about additional supplements
Quote from Deleted user on April 12, 2020, 10:06 amHello, I took Accutane for 1 year (all year 2016) and up to last year in summer I used a daily cream for the face with retinoids and until recently I was consuming a lot of vitamin A in vegetables etc. all my life.
10 months after the end of Accutane (October 2017) ME/CFS broke out after a flu.
I am now bedridden 22-23h and tied to the house. I recently started the diet with the hope that it may improve my general condition and the symptoms that I can relate to Accutane / Vit A relatively clearly.
To my questions:
1.) I have a very high need for Vit D, due to the illness and maybe also Vit A poison, I get little or no exposure to the sun. If Vit A detoxification is not sufficient, which Vit D preparation or form would you most likely supplement, if unavoidable? And what do you think is better for Vit A detoxification, a high dose of Vit D every few days or a smaller dose each day?
2.) I take some herbal supplements for my chronic illness and wanted to ask if someone has experience with some of them, or knows something in context to vitamin A detoxification.
Cistus, Turmeric (should be good for the liver, with Vit A detoxification ?!) Ashwagandha&Maca(good nutrient profile), Maitake mushroom, medical cannabis.
For some it is called 0% Vit A and for others I do not find any or contradictory information about the Vit A content. Is there more to find out than just beta carotene and retinol content?
I am afraid that despite a very disciplinary diet, vitamin A detox will not work properly due to my supplements. So if anyone has contraindication information, please let me know. But because of the chronic, strong illness, I do not want to / can't simply drop them all.
3.) In addition, I started glycine & moor (hummic acid) for glyphosate detoxification. It should also be beneficial for Vit A detoxification ?!
4.) I have a very high taurine level (does anyone else have it?) Well above the norm, although I have never supplemented it. So take the building blocks for taurine (cysteine & methionine).
Other supplements that I take: B complex, B1, Vit C (which form is the most ideal with the diet?), Glutamine, zinc, magnesium.
5.) The last thing that would interest me, I took Phosphatatidycholine liquid and now dropped it because its made from soybeans. But I read, it should also be very beneficial for Vit A detoxification. Not take it because of soy or yes because of support?
Thanks for reading, greetings from Germany (wasn't sure if my contribution was more food or science)

Quote from Jiří on April 12, 2020, 1:05 pm" I have a very high need for Vit D" how you know this? Do you have blood test done? Do the blood test. Meanwhile take 4ooo iu every day in the morning. Ideally with some vit K2 as well.. Another supplements some vit C no more like 1000mg is ok, also lower dose B complex. I would drop zinc as well as glutamine and especially all herbs like Ashwagandha. That doesn't do any good for you. It will just stimulate you and burn down your adrenals even more. For now just focus on a good diet low in vit A. Mainly beef ideally ground beef(cheaper, easier to digest, better amino acid profile..) I would eat at least 200g every day. For other meats like pork, chicken. bone broth is good. Protein is very important. You should eat at least 1,5g per 1kg of body weight.. The rest of the diet rice, potatoes etc.. you know the diet.. Lecithin is ok. I am taking sunflower lecithin. Also it is very important to keep your bile flow moving so olive oil is great for this. You can add it to your carbs. This way you also lower glycemic index of the rice and potatoes.. Use good amount of salt to taste.. Turmeric etc. I would drop it all. Especially the herbs like I said. This will take time. More than 1 year. Keep in mind that if you are in bad shape like this you don't want speed upt the detox to much. It can hurt you really badly.. Just let the body heal it self..

Quote from Sandra Forrester on April 12, 2020, 2:26 pmHi Joel.
I'm a newbie, kind of like you and was very confused about many of the details of following a vitamin A detox diet. My friend referred me to Dr Garrett Smith's website http://www.nutritionrestored.com , which has a wealth of information on all the things you are asking about. In addition, although I'm not trying to get you to spend money, his course for Vit A Detox is around $60 and it made everything easy for me. It lays out food lists, why we should not supplement vit D, vit C, vit B unless the diet and situation call for it, taurine...everything you have raised in this post and much, much more. It gave me a clear road map on my journey to wellness. Even if you just go to the public forum, you will find an incredible wealth of information that, hopefully, will help you a lot.
I wish you a focused journey to complete wellness!

CFS can have many causes vit A can be one of them for sure. Btw I forget it is a good idea to take good vit E complex. It is very important anti oxidant that can prevent some damage from vit A. If it's unbound somewhere in the tissues or the blood causing oxidative damage..

Quote from r on April 12, 2020, 11:55 pmI will add a E complex to my supplement ? but why do we still need a B complex is beef ( 200-300 GM ) + lentils + brown rice + egg whites, is the diet , I think this diet has all of the B vitamins . I might be wrong ,if. there is actually a need
also what do you think about egg whites , I see people over here dont usually include it in their diet , its very good in B2 which I think is needed in detox

Quote from Jiří on April 13, 2020, 12:28 amTaking B compelx can't hurt you. Just buy some low dose where is like 10-20mg max for each B vit.. Your digestion can be not ideal so you don't know for sure if you absorb everything what is in the food. That's why taking B complex to make sure you have all b vits you need.. Egg whites are great source of protein. Easy to digest.. But cook them, don't drink them raw.. 🙂

Quote from Jenny on April 13, 2020, 3:13 am@r-2 I have a working theory that vitamin A toxicity is one of the factors that causes CFS. Maybe it is necessary but not sufficient. Maybe it is just one of the toxicity factors involved for some people. I have shared this with a CFS expert (Dan Neuffer) but he wasn’t interested. I have built this theory by observing my close family members health degeneration.

Quote from Jenny on April 13, 2020, 3:33 amAs far a recovery is concerned I think that reducing vitamin A toxicity is very important. However, I think that once the limbic system has been damaged (via mitochondria CDR etc) by toxicity etc then a programme focusing on neuroplasticity is required too. I liken it to a toxicity (& other factors) ‘hand’ turning down a dimmer switch. Removing that ‘hand’ is essential for recovery but not sufficient as another ‘hand’ is required to turn the dimmer switch back up (neuroplasticity programmes). So my working theory is that recovery is based on removal of bad ‘hand’ & adding in of a good ‘hand’. This theory is based on N=2 and CFS is an illness thought to have multiple causes so I don’t know how widely this applies.

@jiri yes i did a lot of blood tests! I took 5000iE every day for over 1.5 years and still never had a level over 60 (reference range 30-90). Furthermore in the first year of my chronic illness i was in the sun all spring and summer 3-4 hours a day, at that time my condition was much better. However, vitamin D levels were only found at 25. A chronic illness, natural killer cells etc. and especially ME/CFS needs a lot of vitamin D. Thanks for your tips! Currently only eat black beans, rice and turkey meat or roast beef. Very rarely olive oil, it confuses me, seems to be important for the bile, but thought as little fat as possible when on vitamin A detoxification. And yes I took vitamin D with K2 but thought that if I took vitamin D again, it would be better without K2 because it is fat-soluble, too?!
@sandra Thanks!! I know his site, but first wanted to try it alone or in other words on a free basis, but I will maybe register.
