@beata-2 diet looks VA clean, but seems to be lacking starch for energy/calories, I don't remember do you have issues with rice, potatoes, whole wheat?

I do think B vitamins are important, especially B1.  How much daily beans are you eating, beans can cover alot of the Bs?  Do you think your digestion is working well?

@orion, thank you for your comment. I forgot to list the white rice and potatoes. 😌 I have a portion of either one every day. I avoid wheat because it is addictive for me and after a while it affects my bladder.

I eat 1/2 cup of beans 3 times per day with a palm size of meat each time. I do not feel hungry and I am not loosing any weight, so I think I get plenty of energy. My digestion is amazing and really improved on this diet. I had a ‘weak’ digestion for most of my life with frequent indigestion. No more of that which is a relief.

I was thinking today that my meals are very low in fat but I do have 1/2 cup of nuts in the evenings, so plenty of fat overall.

I logged my food into the cronometer and it shows that I am missing calcium and magnesium. So, I wonder if perhaps it is calcium after all...

@beata-2 I wonder this too about calcium, theory being that a lot could be required during retinoic acid excretion.  But once VA is lowered greatly, the need for calcium is much lower... so it could be that supplementing calcium carbonate now might be helpful.

I tried supp'ing with it, and didn't see any positives or negatives though...

Seems like your doing everything right with the food, wonder if a hairtest might point out any deficiencies.

I use taurine, molybdenum, and vitamin K, to help any excretion bottlenecks.

I recently stopped allithiamine(B1), to see how I fare without it, B1 is super important as well, and VA depletes it.

I will try some calcium and see if it makes a difference. I also wouldn’t be surprised if these are all symptoms of detox as I get strange, migrating pains here and there. Today my eyeball hurt for a short time; I get itchy skin on occasion - so I am hoping that my cells are releasing toxins.
Hair test is a great idea. I had one over a year ago and might repeat it.
I would like to avoid supplements as much as possible. I was a supplement junkie and still feel sad about many thousand of dollars spent on them without any success. 😢
I will keep an eye on my hair loss and if it continues, I might get some selective supplements - especially the ones you mentioned being depleted by VA detox.

I probably should also dust off my infrared sauna. I forgot about it!

Hi @beata-2,

I guess I've decided that some amount of detox is just gonna happen, and I suppose your symptoms could be that.

The very specific craving for chicken liver is what made me reply, though.

I only like butter out of all fats, and so I've added a small amount back.   I think cravings are important to follow.  But that is just me, and I'm not zero VA.

Perhaps chicken liver is somehow not as bad as other livers?  I find it more palatable than other types (although liver in general is not a fave of mine)

Eggs might have some of the same things liver has.  I eat a little egg too (but I'm an egg 'farmer', and my life is awfully silly if I bring my egg eating to zero).

If you WERE to eat liver, From what I've seen of liver, you can find purple livers (from young healthy chickens) and yellowish livers.  I'd only purchase the purple.  And I'd only have small amounts just to see what happens.  Do the cravings subside?  Do any symptoms subside?

What is so special about liver?   Let's think.  For one thing, like-cures-like.  Your  healing liver might just be begging for liver building blocks.

As for nutrients, the google machine told me this:

"Liver provides more than the RDI for vitamin B12, vitamin A, riboflavin and copper. It is also rich in the essential nutrients folate, iron and choline."  You know, maybe we here don't think enough about B12.  Just a passing thought.  But I've often thought that VA toxicity is rampant in the elderly and you know what else is?  B12 deficiency.

@beata-2 yep many thousands wasted here too!  I am trying to use as little as possible, and let food do the work.

Calcium carbonate is very alkaline and will neutralize stomach acid. She has thyroid issues so her stomach acid production will be already low.. If calcium I would try calcium citrate.. but I think if you have good amount of calcium in water and you are not low in vit D and K2. You don't need to take extra calcium..

@lil-chick, I have been giving ‘the latest’ a lot of thoughts. It’s amazing how much ‘thinking’ time you have when unable to fall asleep!
It is not impossible for 2 things to happen simultaneously: both detox and some deficiency. Vitamin A seems to be in cahoots with many other essential vitamins, so eating food devoid of A will eliminate the others.

I have been observing my little pains that seem to pop in a joint, eyeball, breast or a very specific area in the head - and then disappear. Something being removed or shifted?? Last night my insomnia was as bad as ever. Finally I went to the kitchen and had a snack of beans. Sleep came soon after. Hmm, low blood sugar then? But why now when I was fine before and have been eating the same food.

I decided to have some chicken liver pâté (from organic, free ranged chickens) and the craving disappeared. I am now a tainted low vitamin A dieter! 🤪 I also had a tiny chicken egg yolk from the chickens raised by my daughter. The chickens are organic, free range, massaged every night and with soothing music playing to put them to bed. Well, OK maybe I embellished but they are organic, free range and live like the royals. I could never have chicken eggs (even organic) but hers - I have no issues! (It was a very small egg though).
I am plodding on and get inspiration from many people here, especially when the shit hits the fan.

@jiri. I am so lost about the supplements. I would much prefer not to take any but if the hair loss and insomnia continues, I will need to do something other than waiting for it to pass.

I have some amazing chicken egg shells that I will powder. This would be calcium carbonated and when mixed with acetic acid, would give calcium acetate. Probably slightly better than the carbonate. The question is: will it be helpful or harmful? Need to check it out, I guess.

@beata-2 powdered egg shells are not harmful, but who knows what is the reason for that insomnia. It can be so many things. Even things not related to your diet. Stress of any kind, bad "sleeping hygiene" etc.. Same with hair loss. Hair goes first when your body is under stress.. Btw you have thyroid issues. Hair loss or bad hair quality overall is very common for people with thyroid issues and like I said. Taking thyroid is not the answer.. You need to find out why you have thyroid issues.. I would suggest good practitioner who can do hair tissue mineral analysis for you and work with you on all aspect of health. I don't think that low vit A diet will fix all your issues..
