Well I am pretty sure that I won't be harmed not eating wheat though I would like to again, it is so much easier to eat what others can especially wheat.     I think animals including humans, especially omnivores don't have to be stuck in a particular diet and that there other much more influencing factors on health namely toxins and activity levels.   I had been eating pastured eggs for years.  Wasn't till retinol supplements (natural not synthetic) that I got super sick.    I was never healthy to begin with since a very small child and maybe a baby too but this is a whole new level of being unhealthy.    Are you saying your grandmother ate caged chicken eggs and because you didn't and ate pastured ones that is why you are unhealthy?   If you got sick after eating pastured eggs then I would be fairly sure that your tissues were at a very high level full of carotenoids and retinoids already and the eggs put you over the edge.   I can't get my cats (more than 2, I'm a crazy cat lady) to eat eggs whether caged or pastured.   My son eats pastured eggs often and his skin is so much better than when he was taking the same retinol supplement as me.   My husband doesn't seem phased by whatever he eats, except seafood which makes him vomit and worse. My husband eats much more fastfood and other crap processed food than me.  He isn't the picture of health but better off than most.  I don't think his grandparents ate processed food like he does, yet he seems being doing pretty good.  As a kid and till my early 20s I ate what my parents and grandparents ate - I wasn't healthy.  Both sets of grandparents lived on farms.  Because I wasn't healthy I kept searching and the things I did probably made things worse because health care professionals of all stripes don't know about the toxicity of retinoids and carotenoids and the cascading bad effects they have.

When I was little I remember smelling the pesticides they sprayed on the farms around me and I lived in area of small farms, not huge factory farms.   I don't think that pesticides need to be smelled to be harmful.  Anyway maybe a reason I had health problems as a kid was because of such pesticide exposure.   Anyone living in farm areas probably have high levels of pesticide exposure whether used on your farm or not.

@romaine I was just re-reading some of this thread and realize I sound kind of cranky, LOL.  Hope it didn't bother you and if so, I'm sorry.

Just to update, I have really stopped eating lard, I just didn't like it much.  I have in general cut back a bit on fats, but yet added back a bit of butter because that is a fat that I like.

My guess would be that agricultural animals are probably storing VA the same way we are, and are subject to the same things we are, all of which I ponder quite often, and some of which we talked about here, such as agricultural chemicals and supps.
