I'm well aware it isn't low, hence the hashtag in my post. My test results say the normal range is 0.7 - 3.0 umol/L.

Quote from lil chick on February 6, 2020, 6:36 amI wonder how much the stuff that was going on that day and the day before it matters. Did you have a drink, were you exposed to a virus, etc. Perhaps people who are keeping track of these things might want to jot a few things down.
Also, I'm assuming you've never had the test before? Who knows what it was prior to the diet! It could be great progress.

Quote from tim on February 7, 2020, 6:56 amI'm happy with my results. Normalisation of cholesterol and liver enzymes is strong evidence of an improvement in health. My serum retinol was likely higher at the start of the diet, it's in a normal range now. What it tells me is that I will likely continue to benefit from a low va diet for years to come. After a year on a vad diet I likely still have an excess of va, pretty incredible.

I agree on this long term approach, close to 1.5 years and continuing to see benefit, I think 2 to 3 years should get me into a sweet spot.

Quote from tim on February 7, 2020, 2:25 pmThanks @orion, as you saw my diet now isn't devoid of va but it contains a fraction of the rda. Based on my understanding of va I see myself following a similar diet for life. After a few years I'll probably add in foods like watermelon and peas which I like. Essentially following a diet devoid of dairy fat, liver and high carotenoid veges like carrots and spinach but allowing everything else with no more than one egg per day.

Quote from Orion on February 7, 2020, 3:42 pmHey @tim-2, I think that is a good approach. I do love pizza, eggs, tomato pasta sauces... but they won't be staples in the future, but will enjoy them again once health is back, and has been stable for many months.

1.8 umol/L which is 50.4 ug/dL
#lowvaforlife
Awesome thanks for sharing Tim. Great to see the results over a longer period of time.
Mine was 2.5 umol/L (70ug/dl) at 3months low VA and
2.o umol/L (56 ug/dl)at 11 months.
I might retest again around 2 year low VA.
Great to see your cholesterol change. Mine was still high on my last test (7.5)

It was smart of you to get VA tested early on. Hopefully you see your cholesterol improve on your next test.

@tim - congrats on your recent serum retinol. The above numbers agree pretty close on the high-end with the reference range shown on Quest Lab reports for retinol, which is 38-98 mcg/dL.
I'm at the 54 mcg/dL level and wonder how long it'll take to get to half that and how things will feel at that point. I've had a variety of pain go away since late 2018 and look forward to more internal improvements. I like your steady approach and long-haul perspective on all this stuff. It makes sense to keep your nutrition high at the same time you reduce the retinol load.
@Mokus - great to read you dropped 14mcg/dL in 8 months, wow, congrats on that! It's encouraging that a 20mcg/dL drop in one years time is attainable from here. I wish I'd tested at the beginning, just to know. My cholesterol numbers are still high as well.
