vegan diet blamed for MS?

PreviousPage 2 of 2

@joe2 sorry it was my mistake to write something into your thread. I will not do that mistake again. I don't need any extra drama in my life right now.. Have a nice day..

I'm glad both of you are here (Joe2 and Jiri), it's a good thread, and you both have interesting points of view.

I think fiber might be a good thing for some, and not present in the carnivore model.   It def can be overdone, but there seems to be a level in which it helps me.

As you wish.

No apology needed.  Beauty and drama are in the eye of the beholder.  Day is already nicer.

Thank you.

For some reason LOLA FALANA came up in my YouTube feed, and it turns out she was very much like the celebrity that we are talking about here:   Beyond BEAUTIFUL and SEEMINGLY healthy, and then struck down by MS.

I read about her struggles with MS.   It was kind of hard to figure out what she ate before and after.

It appears, to my quick study, that she might have been burning the candle at both ends (PARTYING, WORKAHOLIC) and was struck very hard by MS.   Then, she went forward with steel will to get better (EXERCISE, PRAYER, and PURE LIVING), dropped all JUNK FOODS (which is always a great idea).     She was following the ideas of a NUTRITION "EXPERT" of the time.

Her eating mentor was:

"Alvenia Fulton, ND, PhD, was a naturopathic doctor who opened Fultonia Institute in 1958, a combination HEALTH FOOD STORE, VEGETARIAN CAFE, and PHARMACY on the south side of Chicago. It’s believed to be the first health food establishment in an African American neighborhood in the U.S."

Lola did manage to REVERSE her MS for a decade or so and then RELAPSED BADLY, it appears.

As I was reading about Lola and Alvenia Fulton... "soul food" was often mentioned--which was big back in the day.   Soul food (such as fried chicken)  was probably originally fried in tallow and was actually good for you, and then it switched over sometime mid-century to seed oils and what they called "Mel Fry".   (I'm just guessing here, but my in-laws ran a fried-fish restaurant in the mid century and they used tallow from the farm, and I worked at a dairy bar later in the century that used Mel Fry)

I suppose that if Lola switched over to VEGETARIANISM and off JUNK FOOD she might have been managing to avoid JUNK FATS... and BOOZE and all that, which helped a great deal...However, perhaps since she threw the ANIMAL FOODS out along with it, the VEGETARIANISM caught up with her.    Also, Alvina, as most health food store experts did, probably had Lola on SUPPLEMENTS and HERBS (which can be dual edged swords, as we know).

I saw a few Facebook posts by Lola telling people to eat VEGGIES.   She is still alive!   Good for her.

A few random thoughts:

  1.   I think my point of view is there are lots of bad influences that lead to MS, vegan diet and other things too.   For example booze.

I have a very good friend with MS and she once told me about her very first "attack".    Although her life was much more home-body-super-mom (not Lola Falana lifestyle). she probably was RUNDOWN (4 pregnancies in a row) and she told me that she had had some WINE and then COULDN'T MOVE.   The wine seemed to trigger the event.   She is much smarter than me and she remembers to avoid booze to this day.     (Booze goes down the same pathways as VA)

Another thing might be low vitamin D (they have shown the disease happens more frequently the more north you go)... (and this may be about lack of sunshine)

2.  Recently I've also been getting videos about people whose noses have been eaten by "auto immune disease".     These people's noses are not ever going to go back to the way they were.    (do yourself a favor and DON'T look this up)   Real damage happens in "auto-immunity".   I think sometimes people leave this site because they don't get "better" but sometimes just NOT GETTING WORSE is all you are going to get.   Not getting worse is certainly still an amazing benefit!    (that is sometimes hard to see)

3.  However, it does appear that people do manage to reverse de-myelin-ization...  (as I've seen some scans show).   MS might truly be something that is recoverable.
