What do you think of the iheal.me blog?
Quote from MaryAnn on November 7, 2019, 2:02 pmThanks JAJ! I usually add a very tiny sprinkle of vitamin C powder to my food 3x/day, but lately I've been adding just a bit more, maybe I'm getting too much. I'll try just a few grains and only once a day and see what happens.

So, if someone is on a low or zero VA diet, how would you get enough vitamin C or vitamin K1 without taking supplements? I was on a low VA diet. I recently went on a zero VA diet.
Hi Fred,
I don't see any benefit from going ultra low or zero VA, I think you're just making life way harder for yourself.
I get my Vitamin C from potatoes and berries but there are plenty of low VA fruits and veges that contain it. What were your sources of Vitamin C before the low VA diet?
K1 is in olive oil and canola oil. I think it makes sense to have some green herbs in the diet.

She even said in one of her posts that that is what she felt me might be missing and was going to try to eat more, but then at least in the posts of what her kids were eating and their meal.plans there was very little meat. That would get you deficient in B vitamins.
Mary also has some major pelvic issues she's posted about now trying to get fixed, that alone could have some major effect on digestion and healing.
Of course both her and Annika are to doing what's best for them, I just feel that there may be other factors leading to their current Viamin A deficiency thoery.
What?? Oh man. Doesn't sound like she should be advising others or sharing meals plans. Yup that would cause B vitamin, zinc, protein etc deficiencies. Meat is one of the most important ingredients for detoxing VA. I personally feel my protein digestion has improved since going low VA. I consume fish for breakfast, chicken for lunch and beef for dinner. I started doing this for muscle gain reasons to get enough daily protein but I really enjoy it now and a meal without animal protein now seems a bit odd.

Any symptoms claimed to be caused by VAD that aren't connected to the eye are unproven.
Xerophthalmia is not a symptom of Hypervitaminosis A. You can suffer dry eyes when you are toxic in VA but you won't get Bitot's spots or keratomalacia.
It may take longer than 5 years to develop VAD when one has an otherwise nutritionally adequate diet. For people in poor countries where they eat very little meat a lack of zinc, protein and other nutrients can shorten the time before VAD occurs.
Grant has not proven that VA is not essential. What he has shown though is how hard it is to develop VAD.
Before Grant or anyone else needs to prove that A is not essential it first has to be proven that it is.

My sources of vitamin C before my low VA diet was oranges (which are high in VA). I like your suggestion of berries and fruit. Strawberries and pineapples are low in VA and high in vitamin C. Thanks.

For those who wonder about our relationship to Dr. Smith are welcome to watch our life video on Facebook.
There has been a lot of rumor about us. So this might clear things up.

Quote from lil chick on November 27, 2019, 8:59 amHi Anika, so glad to have your opinions here, I feel that we need lots of opinions because all of this is so new.
I'm a bit pressed for time, it seems your major point is "vitamin A detoxes are unnecessary", am I right? And that vitamin A probably has uses in the body (I agree with that BTW). And that many good things become toxic in large amounts (also agree).
If I could possibly entice you to summarize down why you think that, into one paragraph, that would be very nice.
🙂 I'm remembering back to school now, many many eons ago. I had a history teacher, and he said every essay should be like a hamburger, with a bun of explanation at the top and bottom, and the meat in the middle! 🙂
tell them what you are going to tell them
tell them
tell them what you told them
(God, I've become that hard-assed history teacher)

Quote from lil chick on November 27, 2019, 9:03 amIt is true that some people do become actually, diagnosibly vitamin-A toxic (there are studies posted here on the science thread). Are you saying there is no need for them to go through a process of taking in less, so that they will use up their overload?
example (this little child's vit A problem was quite "sticky"):
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3420388/
"Vitamin A intoxication secondary to over-the-counter nutritional supplements and from its use in acne treatment has been described. However, there have been very few case reports of chronic hypervitaminosis A leading to hypercalcemia in the pediatric population. This paper describes a boy with hypercalcemia secondary to chronic vitamin A intoxication in the context of vitamin A usage for therapy of autism. In addition to discontinuation of vitamin A, hyperhydration, and furosemide, the hypercalcemia in this patient required the use of prednisone and pamidronate to normalize the calcium."
It's unclear if the doc's advised a low-VA diet for the child, but it sure seems logical to me.

Quote from Sarabeth on November 27, 2019, 5:45 pmHi Anika,
I read your blog with interest but I'm very curious to hear more specifics apart from hair mineral analysis test results. I know that these are very tricky to interpret with regard to certain minerals (including copper and zinc), and I'm curious what you actually experienced when you 1. supplemented Vitamin A; 2. did a low A diet; and 3. began eating whole foods with no A restriction.
I have tried all these three things as well, and although I have never taken OCs, my hormones were definitely negatively impacted by the thirty-year stint as a vegetarian. 🙂

Quote from prtcp on November 27, 2019, 7:14 pmVitamin a and carotenoids are poisons. They ruined my health. This anika person seems to think she has more authority than Grant and I'm not buying it (and yes I read her poor research and arguments).
I like to think of this as a haven for those who believe in a Grant and his extensive efforts to educate people without any monetary return. 5 years without poison for Grant, POWs without it for years and none of the nasty side effects of so called vitamin a deficiency speaks me and more to me than shoddy research.
