Whey

PreviousPage 2 of 4Next

@rockarolla I still don't know if I should stop eating whey protein. It looks like it has a lot of benefits viz. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/labs/pmc/articles/PMC7126817/  and there are no issues like with whole milk where casein, fat with retinol etc. is. But I wonder if it really "shuts down" our own immune system. So over time we can run in some issues... I use good quality whey protein isolate because I want to make sure, that my body has amino acids even in times when I am for example under stress so my digestion is worse. So I can't for example absorb amino acids that I need form meat or plants.. I think that whey protein is really good source of protein, but at the same time I also think that whole milk is really problematic. So I wonder if keep eating the better part of the milk, but still part of the milk is a good idea long term.. But I would recommend whey protein to basically all older people who have issues with protein intake and/or digestion.. Whey is really good at keeping muscles on the body.. I workout hardly at all just some body weight exercises for many years now and I still look better(more muscular) than most people in the gyms who are lifting heavy weights..

EDIT- anyway I just ordered 5kg of whey protein, 2kg of beef hydrolyzed collagen, 1kg of vit C and 500g of glycine.. 😀

Maybe you haven't seen it, but Ascorbic acid seem slows down ALDH more than anything else...

@daniil , can you provide the links to studies showing the effect of ascorbic acid on ALDH?
I altogether stopped the massive doses of AA I was taking without much noticeable effect so far. But it had only been a week.

I think it's because AA is a strong reducing agent.

interesting that all the cereals and pulses they tested slowed down the detoxification enzymes

@daniil I take under 1g and I take it because I have issues with high free copper which destroys vit C on contact..  I don't think this doses have any negative effect on anything else..

No problem bro, just so you know.

I also think that you may consider some sources of vitamin C that will not be reducing agents. For example, natural sources, dehydroascorbate, maybe. I think they won't have that effect.

I suspect it shuts down(downregulates) innate immunity at least if not covered with a lot of extra calories. As for another pubmed article .. well we can come out with just about any theory by nitpicking specific pieces from world wide research. 😉

I was at a family event this week and saw a mid-nineties Auntie doing about 95 miles per hour with her walker.   She looked great.   Her son told me he put her on whey protein about 5 years back!
