Why I don’t think that this is a legit theory anymore

@r-2 still the same meat, rice, beans, some corn pasta/polenta, onions, cucumbers, apples, bananas.. and just today I started with some broccoli for vit K1 and some vit C.. So still pretty low vit A diet. I have no desire to eat any foods high or even moderate in vit A...

yeah pretty much the same , I stopped beans due to my intestinal issues recently ( I do fine on black beans ) .
I am on meat ( lamb ) , rice , potatoes and cauliflower( small quantity ) . bread .

@christian I have been making some progress. Over the past 2 years, I have lost 30 pounds that I was not able to budge previously. Yes, there was a loooong time when nothing budged again (plateau), but I finally got down to basically what I weighed in high school. This has shocked me because I never dreamed that would happen. I'm now in the predicament of having to purchase nearly all new clothes!

Another thing that has surprised me is improvement in my memory. I'm 66yo and I have had the "what did I come in here for" kind of head for a number of years. At this time, however, I am able to leave the 1st room (where I think of the thing I need or want to do in the 2nd room) and go into the 2nd room, and pause "what I am here for" and then think of it, without having to return to the 1st room (which is what I used to do). One day I hope to not even have that pause to think, and just do it, with no problem at all!

I have had a really bad case of seb derm (it was behind my ear and I could not see it) which has resolved to the point that it rarely itches. I do still have some mild facial seb derm which I hope will resolve over time. (My dad had it, and he had Parkinson's.)

These are the most dramatic things I have noticed. My original intent in going into the program (and even with being Dr. Smith's client) was (and is) to decrease and hopefully eventually stop needing thyroid medication. I have had Hashimoto's thyroiditis, with highly elevated antibodies -- and on thyroid medication-- for the past 40 years. So I expect that particular area of healing to take some time, as I have been medicated for so many years. However, I sure do appreciate what I have already experienced with this WOE!

That's such an encouraging report that you've written up. Great to hear you've lost so much weight without even trying to focus on this particular goal. So many women attempt to lose weight and then jump on some restrictive diet. That vitamin A might be the culprit in weight loss is surely pretty unknown.

Oh, memory, how I wish I had a better memory. It's as if my brain is still a big messy swamp. And this phenomenon where you enter the living room wondering what you've actually wanted to get only to remember when you go back to the hallway, I can totally relate to such instances. I can be pretty spacy and wonder if continuous low vitamin A depletion will bring back some sharpness.

Interesting to me is that despite high blood serum vA (it's in the 90s), I don't have any skin issues to deal with. It shows how vA affects people differently. For me, sleep is a major issue and tiredness, also mental issues like depression. I'm pretty confident that once vA is much lower, these issues will fade. I've done so many therapies in my lifetime, starting when I was a teenager. All these sessions really have not had much impact on my life.

I'm sure you'll eventually be able to even drop the thyroid medication, and you'll be free of skin issues too. Three years is no time in the life cycle of vA. 🙂

@kathy55wood, great update, thank you. I also have had Hashimoto’s since I was very young and always dreamed not to need medication. I am not there yet.
Do you do regular antibody tests? Have they gone down?

@beata-2  I have a little notepad in the drawer next to me, where I have listed all my antibody tests since I first started tracking them. I remember that I had to order them online myself, once I found out (again, online) what Hashimoto's even was. My doctor would never have ordered it, since apparently the presence of antibodies does not affect the treatment, in traditional standard-of-care medicine.

Anyway, having the antibodies decrease has been similar to having my weight decrease, in that I have had to endure a long plateau or stall period. At first measure  (in 2010), my TPO antibodies were 2864, TGB antibodies 29,130. In fact, when my doctor saw that extraordinary number, he wanted to refer me to an endo, but I refused to go. Subsequently he "fired" me as a patient -- which was fine with me, as I wanted to look for a naturopath anyway.

Over the next few years, these numbers decreased to 460 and >2250, respectively. The >2250 number represents the limit of the newer methodology of the labs, so they could not determine the actual number. That has been frustrating, since over the next several years, while the first number decreased slowly, the second number did not change.

However, my most recent test (2021) shows 195 and 1806, which is obviously a great decrease from the initial testing, yet still far from our goals of (I believe) >30, or even zero! TBH I just hope that second number does not return to >2250 again!

Your numbers are very high indeed but as long as they are going down, there is hope.
Mine are much lower but still up there, and luckily only the TPO at 75.5 (0-34).
Well, hopefully each time we will see the number go down and thyroid function up. 🌹
