Zeolite
Quote from romaine on November 18, 2019, 9:28 amI took zeolite yesterday, and for the first time in a couple months and among a handful of nights this past year plus, I slept till 6 am with just short bouts of awakeness. I usually wake up around 2 am and can't get back to sleep till much later in the day. Just about every day since August 2018 (things went really bad before the low vA diet) I've had bad headaches and insomnia. Even on the days I got 7 to 9 hours of sleep total with naps, I would still feel extremely tired and get headaches. I've been miserable and blame it on the protocol of vitamin A supplements and boatloads of colorful veggies I had been on for 4 years. I can count on 2 hands the number of days I've felt anywhere near normal the last 15 months. I started out on the low A diet eating Grant's core diet plus coffee, a banana, an apple and some apple juice. I didn't get anywhere so the last couple of months so cut out everything but beef, white rice and black beans and didn't feel much better or slept over 8 hours at one time, until yesterday/last night after dosing zeolite. VA was apparently not leaving my body and I think that is what the zeolite is now doing. This might be too early to say that it is the zeolite and I should give it more days but I really hope this gives me some relief even if only temporary. I have been so depressed that I took vitamin A. I had acne for decades but never took vitamin A supplements , which is often recommended for those with acne, on my own because I read bad stories from people who did but I trusted the doctor to know something about me that would make vitamin A good for me. The depression is biochemical/physiological as well I'm sure.
Grant didn't need zeolite but some people need something extra. I tried apple cider vinegar for a few days and didn't notice a difference (except I was less hungry) but maybe I didn't take enough. I also tried eating a bit of white cheese to stop the bad detox symptoms but also didn't notice any difference. Anyway, zeolite might at least be a temporary solution. I have had decades long constipation problems, though on the low vitamin A diet it hasn't been bad. If the constipation comes back because of the zeolite, for me it is much better than headaches and insomnia/fatigue.
If this doesn't keep helping I don't know what else I might try.

Quote from romaine on November 18, 2019, 11:16 amYesterday I took 4 doses of 1tsp each. Today I'm going to try 2 tsp total but if I don't feel well later today or can't sleep well I'll increase the amount back to 4 tsp total.
editing to add that I'm taking the powder form of zeolite, not a liquid.

Thanks @romaine, I have been debating trying zeolite again or pure pectin. Undisturbed sleep is one of my lasting symptoms.

Quote from romaine on November 18, 2019, 12:01 pmI had tried zeolite last spring but was fearful of some of the side effects and so only took 1/8 to 1/4 tsp a couple times a day - didn't see a difference. I really wanted to do this without supplements but that approach isn't working. So people are having success with pectin? Are there any downsides to it?

Hey @romaine, ya just doing food is taking a loooong time. I seem to get the best results, eating just beef and rice, I recently removed black beans, I think they were slowing progress. Did you have another good night sleep on the larger zeolite dose?
I haven't seen any pectin responses on the Dr. Smith forum, but was suggested to not dose too high, as pectin could leech good things as well, especially vitamin E. Eating an apple or two should provide plenty.
In supplement form NOW Foods Apple Pectin seems a good brand, or make sure it is high-methoxylation type. One pill would be roughly equivalent to one apple minus the VA content.

Quote from lil chick on November 19, 2019, 7:47 am@orion, yesterday my "logic" took me here: I have detox symptoms when I'm burning fat. Could that be your issue? Burn a fat cell--release stored VA!
I'm a person whose weight goes up and down all the time... the theory explains a lot!
It also explains to me why people around me whose weight continues to climb... don't have VA symptoms (or have fewer than mine).
So many of us here loose weight from where we began... and very slowly over a long time...

I slept about 7.5 hours last night, not as long as the night before but much longer than usual. I upped the amount I was taking later in the day yesterday because I was getting headaches with just .5 tsp at a time. I don't know if there is a best way to take zeolite but spreading it out through out the day seems right to me but maybe that is wrong. I happened to have bought some pectin yesterday, the now brand, just in case the zeolite doesn't keep working. I think the pectin was only 10 dollars so not too much money to waste if it doesn't help. Thanks for mentionng pectin.
editing to add: I will consider eliminating beans though worried about constipation and losing out on some of the nutrients the beans provide. It is at least probably worth a try though. Thank you too for that suggestion.

Yes that is a very likely hypothesis, as we lose the VA we need less fat to protect us, while more VA means more storage fat.
I also believe that the excess VA affects fat burning(lowering it, lowered bile production, inhibited liver function, low B2 status), so there is a vicious cycle running there.

@romaine I was doing beans daily at lunch time, stopped for now. Might maybe add them in for one meal per week, for added nutrients, but seem much better without them for now.
I will test zeolite again this weekend and let you know how my sleep goes. Think I will get some NOW pectin as well and test that in the future too. Probably safe to use both pectin and zeolite at the same time. Studies really do show that pectin is a VA sponge, so could be very helpful.
