A Best Practices Diet
Quote from Andrew B on January 7, 2023, 12:43 pmTMAO is gut dysbiosis in response to unhealthy foods and lifestyle. It doesnt mean choline or meat or fish or eggs are a bad thing. A moderate amount of eggs plus moderate meat or a high meat diet doesnt automatically mean TMAO and heart attacks. It's far less likely to happen on a low vitamin A diet with a healthy liver. Choline improves absorption from a balanced diet.
Eggs dont raise TMAO. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33872583/

TMAO production doesn't solely occur due to gut dysbiosis.

Agree except for high meat intake. Eating meat in excess will increase TMAO and oxysterol intake and protein in excess of bodily requirements provides no benefits only downsides.

Quote from Andrew B on January 7, 2023, 2:16 pmTMAO doesnt cause heart attacks. It's likely a compensatory mechanism. I'm in the best health of my life at 3 years 4 months into this detox. Gut health gets better on Vit A reduction, liver health and renal function improve. I'm eating a balanced diet and now I'm going to have a heart attack because I eat 3-4 eggs a day with 375-500 mgs of choline cause my choline was low. My digestion improved to 2 bowel movements a day with the extra choline and constipation sometimes links to heart attacks. I didnt have a heart attack on 1-2 eggs a day during the first 2 years when I had suspected high Vit A toxicity at the start. I'd suggest I've lowered my heart attack risk not raised it. Give me a break. Vitamin A reduction and improved liver health is the key to reducing cardiovascular risk. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/333703474_Is_increased_plasma_TMAO_a_compensatory_response_to_hydrostatic_and_osmotic_stress_in_cardiovascular_diseases

Quote from Inger on January 7, 2023, 2:18 pmThis is my experience too. Too much meat made me way too hot and somehow feels off? I could do more than 1 kg/day easily as a carnivore. But eventually it did not feel right. Even if I am donating blood 4 times/year as a woman. Too much meat feels off somehow. Like it overheats me. That said I ate more or little less than 1 kg meat for years! I just love the simplicity and the taste.
So I think if eating only meat, the one who do well are, high fat less meat or just less meat (less food). Like 1 ribeye steak/day. Nothing else. I can imagine that might work. But lots of meat every day... not so great. I wonder what it is what makes too much meat bad. High iron? Too much protein?

Are you saying it has no negative cardiovascular effects? Atherosclerosis is multi factorial and complex.
"Previous studies revealed that TMAO could accumulate in the heart, kidney, or other tissues, participating in various biological processes, such as activating platelet aggregation, increasing foam cell formation, inducing inflammatory responses, and decreasing reverse cholesterol transport.6,9,47 In most cases, the majority of TMAO is eliminated by the kidney, and the rest will be reduced to TMA by the enzyme TMAO reductase in the gut."

Good for you Andrew, I've also experienced great benefits. Improved gut, liver and kidney function is central to longevity and health yes. Heart disease progresses over many decades though so it's unclear what point you are trying to make here. Nobody knows to what degree dietary choline may contribute to heart disease. Whenever choline is being emphasized as a crucial nutrient to increase in the diet it's important for people to be aware of the research around TMAO.
Most people do not naturally choose to eat 3 eggs per day. You may experience no harm from eating that many for the next 20 years but is there a sound basis for choosing that level of consumption for health reasons? I would argue no. The standout nutrient in eggs is biotin, eggs are also a good source of iodine, selenium, DHA and choline. Just a few eggs per week like most choose to consume naturally alongside a balanced diet will supply adequate nutrition. Aside from TMAO concerns cooked eggs are high in oxysterols. Oxysterols are a significant cause of atherosclerosis. That doesn't mean we should avoid all foods containing oxysterols but it doesn't make sense to over consume foods high in them based on health justifications.

Quote from Inger on January 7, 2023, 3:39 pmI did a arterial scan to look for plaque, after eating tons of egg yolks for many years, maybe 8-10 years. My arteries were totally clean. My cholesterol was sky high. Very high LDL, HDL, and very low triglycerides.
I also was addicted to nicotine gum the last 6 years.
Eating a almost carnivorous diet, high protein.
All health markers were great. Despite high stress work and life.
But I am a sun addict / nature addict. Maybe that helped 🙂

Doctor said, today there are many young people who have clogged arteries already. Way younger than me. He was impressed with my results. In a good way. And told me to continue the was i was doing it.
But yes, I love to be in the sun and I have a feeling that is my best medicine.

Quote from Andrew B on January 7, 2023, 3:57 pmYou clearly dont understand about choline. Read the other posts about choline. Some people need more choline. Older women, genetic SNPs, celiac disease, men and so on. So it's going to go badly for me because I eat 3 eggs a day ? I use them in pancakes, apple sponges, beef burgers and in fry ups. Why shouldnt I eat 3 eggs a day ? I only started resolving some problems when I increased the eggs to 3-4 a day. The detox may need more. Long term gluten intolerance may have led to problems for me. People in this forum might need more choline. As they are lowering vitamin A the cardiovascular risk goes down. The TMAO concern goes down. Read the study. There's negatives about virtually every food. You live your life and leave me to live how I choose. It's working for me and many of the other long term sufferers doing the vit A reduction. Would you rather they continued to suffer ?

Top athletes are not eating low carb high protein diets neither are the oldest people.
But yes, I love to be in the sun and I have a feeling that is my best medicine.
Yep sun bathing has big health benefits.
