@ggenereux2014 First, what an amazing 7 yr update! I'd like to add honey to the list below...have added caveats at the end as well.

Source:https://butternutrition.com/vitamin-a-detox-diet/

I think this is what you might be looking for:

"PROTEINS

beef

chicken

turkey

bison

select seafood (pink seafood like salmon and shrimp contain the most vitamin A)

FATS

butter

olive oil

coconut oil

coconut milk

dark chocolate (not milk chocolate)

VEGETABLES (REMOVE PEELS IF THEY ARE COLORFUL)

cauliflower

parsnips

white potatoes

zucchini

cucumber

onions

garlic

FRUITS (PEELED IS PREFERRED)

apples

pears

bananas

raisins

dried cranberries

pineapple

blueberries

raspberries

kiwi

strawberries

lemons/limes

GRAINS (ORGANIC ONLY, GLYPHOSATE FOUND IN INORGANIC GRAINS MAY EXACERBATE THE VITAMIN A ISSUE) [11]

oats

white rice

slow fermented sourdough bread (organic only!)

quinoa

amaranth

other gluten-free organic grains

LEGUMES

all beans except green beans, peas and mung beans

NUTS

most nuts"

I would add most seafood is going to be a no go(white fish may be ok?), and poultry must have the skin removed and be eaten in moderation. And animal fats will be better than butter, coconut oil in my experience.

Hope this helps people!

THIS IS A RECIPE FOR DISASTER . DONT EAT ALL THIS!

Open to suggestions on the list, let's make a list...

I'm not gaining  nor losing weight. I should probably try to lose about 4-5 lbs, so I might drop down to 1200 kcals /day soon.

@ggenereux2014, if you try the lower calorie level, how would you adjust your rice/bean/meat quantities, ie the same proportion reduction of all, or same of some and reduced amounts of other? Also if you've tried it already how it it go?

@lynne speaking with body transformation experiences(bobybuilding) why you want lower calories? To burn body fat? You need to look on your calorie intake if it's really high or if you actually eat lower amount of calories than you should.. Because it is very easy to drop calories to nothing and lower your body weight, but what you think your body does? Lowers the metabolism. Why you think that most people who are doing "crash" diets all the time are fat? Because their metabolism is very slow.. The goal here is to speed up metabolism so you can eat more calories and not gain body fat. With higher metabolism detox works faster as well..  Anyway if you want lower calories lower fats and than carbs. You want protein to keep muscles on your frame. Ideally you should do some exercise. Body weight like push ups, pull ups, body weight squats are enough.. So you create reason for your body to keep muscles.. I don't know if you are male or female. For female I would eat at least 2000kcal a day. For male at least 3000kcal a day. If you are gaining weight eating less than this your metabolism is very slow and you can fix it by eating more. You will gain some weight at first, but once the metabolism speeds up you probably drop that extra weight but now your metabolism will run in 100% speed.. So the body doesn't have to choose if keeping hair something useless is a good idea because you have plenty of calories for all functions in the body..

EDIT I just saw

"I'm not gaining  nor losing weight. I should probably try to lose about 4-5 lbs, so I might drop down to 1200 kcals /day soon."

well that is really bad idea. Unless you are 40kg kid you shouldn't eat just 1200kcal that is INSANE.

Yeah, exactly, one should add calories until he/she starts loosing weight due to increased metabolism (easily confirmed via normalized body temperature).

OMG, @lynne its such a terrible idea - did you see how chronically calorie deficient people look like? They look like trash + rapid aging, etc. Also eventually everyone trying to limit food intake crashes _and_ starts gaining weight(rapidly) - no exceptions - you will not be able to maintain any diet for life and additionally you will require years to recover from the damage done via dieting.

Lol I think you've misunderstood this original quote. Lynne is quoting Grant. This is Grants words. This is how much he eats and his weight etc.

I have also heard him mention his resting hr is about 50bpm which is super low and indicates possible low thyroid/low metabolism.

He himself admits he hasn't checked thyroid and he doesn't know much at all about thyroid function and the ideal hormone levels etc for that.. I heard this in an interview on Quax podcast YouTube

My 2c is I wonder what would happen if he doubled his calorie intake. Technically metabolism should be good if you remove VA which suppresses endocrine function. I'm wondering if there has been some misunderstanding which mainstream thinking pushes about "low calories being good" this may have influenced him which allowed this crazy low intake  to happen and maybe he could fix it with calorie increase. Unfortunately I dont think Grant has delved much into metabolic/bioenergetics  frameworks so who knows what will happen there and he seems happy with health otherwise which is definitely a good sign.

But I agree with your advice 100% and your caution against such crazy low calories for a fully grown man.

@r-2 why? What bad things would happen?

What would your list look like?

No. all beans are not fine in detox diet , only black mexican beans and cannellini beans are fine . Red kidney beans would cause catastrophic effects to colon, if you are already vitamin. A toxic , eventually leads to colitis .

Some of the grains mentioned have Lutein and it directly affects eyesight .

I never did well on cauliflower , but occasionally it is fine .

Grant reacted bad on raisins .

I think potatoes , banana , white /brown rice , beef , lamb , chicken . black beans , peeled apples and some fruits are the safe ones only

Yes, thanks @Emma, it was Grant's quote, not mine.

@jiri & @rockarolla, I was simply enquiring about Grant's experimentation, but a lot of assumptions seem to have been made about me as a consequence of my very brief enquiry. While I thank you for your concern, I've been following the work of Ray peat for almost 10 years and am not in need of a starting point. My question for @ggenereux2014 stands.
