Accutane Side effects - Spud Diet?
Quote from Guest on January 3, 2019, 3:39 amI posted a more lengthy post in the progress discussion forum but thought I would address the possible role of sugar here, as a long term accutane sufferer the only real progress I have heard from others seems to be from using diet, usually some kind of atkins diet or fasting, low vitamin A, raw food only diets, most of these usually contain low sugar by default, so could sugar also be a culprit?
As such I am considering doing the spud diet - eating potato's only so its an almost total elimination diet, it was mentioned by someone else on here I think which gave me the idea, the problem is I think I will get enough nutrients from them (though it is very bland, am only on day 3 finding it a bit hard) but potatoes do contain a little bit of vitamin A ~2 UI.
As I have no idea really how much vitamin A is too much (I know 0 would be ideal) but would someone be able to tell me, since I will probably be eating a large amount up to a couple of KG's per day.

There was another person (also an Accutane victim) attempting to use a mostly potatoes diet. In the short-term, it appeared to be working for him. But, in the long run (~4 months) it gave him very negative results. I really believe a good source of meat protein is essential.
There are two aspects to healing. Phase I is elimination of the toxic substances as best you can. Then, phase II is rebuilding damaged tissues and organ structures. That is going to take both a long time (think years), and the necessary amino acids ( protein building blocks).
You need to understand that this not just a simple poisoning. That is why it's routinely reported that Accutane can permanently damage the body. The reason is that with vit. A, and RA binds to RNA/DNA. With that your cells are now generating defective proteins and enzymes. The defective proteins are still used as best the body can to maintain and repair itself. So, you need to give your body the basic nutrients to repair itself correctly. I really don’t think potatoes alone are going to be adequate.

Beef.
Unfortunately, factory farmed chicken in the USA is typically fed a lot of vit. A.

That could explain why I felt worse during the holidays with the same diet. When at home, I have access to more sugary snacks.
