ascites, the swelling around the liver

Over all I do feel I am doing quite well, tolerating more and more, adding some new things in. I do think I might have some sulphur issues with 2 eggs, so I think for now I will stick to one egg and slowly try some broccoli or cabbage (for the fibre!)
(Edited) I haven't had broccoli for 4 years lol
curious to see how that goes. During last 12 years of keto/paleo I made a point of 3 to 8 cups per day cruciferous veggies. Always loved them in previous 40 years too. Backing off them in 2023 has been a sulfur relief. Same with backing off eggs. This last week I started backing off beef (from 2# down to 1# per day) and am enjoying the reduction in sulfurous fumes in the house. and more relaxed guts.

what are the issues raised with estrogenic and other aspects of soy. Used to eat tons of tofu in the 80's. have seen all negative on soy since late 90's

Quote from lil chick on July 20, 2023, 1:05 pm@Joe, I think many of us have seen a couple of posts in the past few months in which Jenny asked not to ever be tagged because of her health condition.
I think someone realized that you must not have seen those posts, (because you tagged her) and informed you of the request.
Personally, I kind of expected you to say: "OH MY GOSH, I didn't know, I will stop tagging her".
I like it when Jenny visits, so I really hope that she feels she can participate without it being too stressful. Besides just being a kind and smart person involved in this experiment, her case is also one that we really need to keep tabs on.
It benefits you and everyone else if you honor her request.
Maybe now we can get gently swerve back to ascites?

Quote from lil chick on July 21, 2023, 3:59 amI see Joe's question to Jessica as being hypothetical, "if a person is going to still eat VA ...why are they HERE?" sort of question.
However, I think there are many ways for a person to approach reducing VA in their lives.
Not that I usually take the side of typical doctors, but if anyone remembers back to the study of the small child who got VA toxic (that we discussed at length a few years back) they didn't put him on a zero-VA diet. They left him on his normal diet and just told the mom to stop the supplements. I suppose that is one approach.
He didn't progress very quickly, unfortunately. I think probably mom needed a list of foods to avoid, foods that contain the highest amounts of VA. That, to me, would be the middle road.
From a lifetime of heroic diets, I think caution is a good idea and I do believe that a varied diet of 3 square meals is probably best. Heroic diets tend to have unexpected problems long term.
One food that I've been meaning to talk about is ice cream. I don't think it is a great idea, it's something we can live without and still have a varied diet of 3 squares. But people gulp it down like *crazy*. A friend of mine recently went on an ice cream binge and ended up with a migraine. Think about how unhealthy Ben and Jerry seem, LOL. Ice cream would be on my short list of things I'd have that mom stop buying.
