Betaine

wow quinoa looks interesting. Gluten free, good amount of folate, B1,B2, potassium and betaine you say? The only problem it's expensive here...

@jiri Quinoa is very high in betaine at 630 mgs per 100 grams of it uncooked. You therefore only need 16 grams of it uncooked to get over 100 mgs of betaine per day.

@andrew-b but isn't that betaine lost during cooking?

What about Betaine anhydrous?

@jiri yes, boiling leads to the greatest loss. Not exactly sure how much. I definitely notice effect of small amounts of quinoa.  https://www.researchgate.net/publication/222257841_Glycine_betaine_and_glycine_betaine_analogues_in_common_foods

@armin Yes, it occurs in foods like beets and spinach and naturally in the body too. https://www.rxlist.com/betaine_anhydrous/supplements.htm

@andrew-b Do you pre soak or prep the quinoa?  I have noticed in the past, way before trying low VA, it would cause quite the upset stomach just boiling quinoa for ~20mins like rice.  You are just talking about normal white quinoa with husk?
