Fasting
Quote from Alex on March 29, 2024, 4:53 am@jessica2 Yes thanks I was eating sugars and carbs before this, the nausea has mostly gone away now but I don't have this calm euphoric feeling that I had yesterday. People say autophagy really ramps up on days 2 and 3+ and they also say your immune system resets on day 3. I am curious to see if I see any extra benefits from those things by sticking it out for 3 days, or maybe I will just start feeling worse and worse I'm not sure.

Quote from Jiří on March 29, 2024, 5:27 am@alexm most people say first 3 days the body is depleting glycogen and runs somewhat normal and after 3 days your body turns autophagy and ketosis on.. For that reason I think if you want to speed up this process you should start the fast already glycogen depleted. So do exercise and lower carb intake couple days before or just go no carb completely.. It depends on your metabolism a lot. That's why Gbolduev said fasting is good for slow oxidizers and bad for fast oxidizers like small kids that burn energy like crazy..

Quote from Alex on March 29, 2024, 2:15 pm@jiri Cool I will note that for next time, I was eating too much sugar before the fast so I didn't prepare in the best way but my body was telling me I needed to fast so I just went with it.
I added in EGCG this evening to the water fast as this is supposed to speed up the process of fasting by about 3-4 days, what the EGCG does is it removes any energy sources for infected cells.
Towards the end of day 2 I've had tons of energy that I even did a bit of cardio, I also randomly went to church today which I haven't been since I was young.
Not sure how long I can keep up the fasting for as I'm already fairly slim but when I fast my body goes super catabolic for some reason. And I've now read that when you don't have any fat while fasting you are not fasting anymore and are now in starvation which is bad.

Quote from Jiří on March 29, 2024, 11:26 pm@alexm yeah it is better to have some extra weight on you before the fast. But I think 3 day fast is not a problem even for slim person.

Quote from Alex on March 30, 2024, 10:23 pmBroke my fast 2 hours ago as I suddenly had insomnia after the 3rd day and it didn't feel good while I was trying to sleep in bed, so it was a sign to me to end the fast. Managed to do 3.5 days, on the 2nd and 3rd days i felt fine until I tried to sleep on the 3rd night.
I just did my re feeding now with lots of cooked veg (for potassium) but I craved meat after this so I had some biltong and the biltong made me feel way better than normal so I guess the fasting made so improvements there. Then I also felt like 3 eggs after that.
Only negatives is when I had the cooked veg my skin started peeling off the roof of my mouth which was an old Vitamin A toxicity symptom for me and the veg I ate were asparagus, cauliflower and parsnips.

Quote from lil chick on April 6, 2024, 10:14 amI was just surfing the web and found this quote by Cass Elliot. For all of you young'ns, she was a wonderful singer who struggled with her weight for her entire life and died of a heart attack at 32 years of age. Close to her death, before going on the Johnny Carson show, she passed out from a blood sugar low. She also got fired from a Las Vegas long-term booking because she had ruined her ability to sing with the fasting diet she talks about below. It sounds like to me that she forced her body's hand regarding VA, sent it circulating, and it did a horrible amount of damage to organs such as her liver, her spleen, her vocal cords and her heart.
“I’ve invented a fabulous new diet. It costs only $2000 for each pound you lose. It also weakens your natural resistance to disease. I can’t guarantee it, but the Mama Cass Diet can give you acute tonsilitis, hemmoraging vocal chords, mononucleosis and a dangerous case of hepatitis. At least that’s what it did for me. I lost my health– and more than a quarter million dollars in earnings as a singer.
I lost weight alright–110 pounds. From a high of 285 pounds on my 5 foot 5 1/2 frame. I slimmed down to 175, but I wouldn’t recommend my diet to anyone. Mainly because I didn’t see a doctor. Why? Well I knew what I was doing was wrong. I knew no doctor would permit anyone to go on a crash diet like mine. But I was in a hurry to weigh 110 pounds, and I still am.
My diet formula was very simple: starvation.
For five months I fasted from Monday to Thursday, eating nothing and drinking only water plus an occasional glass of orange juice. On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays I limited myself to one evening meal of steak and a green vegetable (usually broccoli or squash.) Sometimes I’d also allow myself a half cup of cottage cheese in the morning. And that was it.
From May through October of 1967 I starved off 70 pounds. I tried the same diet again for 6 weeks in early 1968 and lost another 40 pounds.
It’s one way to lose 110 pounds in less than a year, but it’s also a good way to put yourself in the hospital, which is what happened to me.
I dont care what anyone says, it’s no fun to be heavy. I’m naturally a happy person, but there were times when I was so depressed about my weight that I’d stay at home so people wouldn’t see me.”
This reminds me so much of the internet blogger "Butter Bob" who lost even more weight (with intermittent fasting and low carb diet) but disappeared from the internet soon after loosing the weight. One of his issues, just before disappearing, was vertigo. I never heard much more.

This video seems to say that Butter Bob is alive and well. I'm glad to hear it. Lots of people singing his praises in the comments.
Perhaps there is something there in his videos to base a non-lethal fasting diet on. Especially if you enter it knowing that you need to be cautious about releasing all that stored-away VA. I'm glad he managed it without that tidbit.

This is a very interesting Butter Bob video. If you look closely you can see that he has red patches to each side of his nose (same place I sometimes get it when detoxing) and over his eye (another common place). You can see some other things too that in my mind are VA toxicity symptoms.
I wonder if he has ever considered his VA load.
Again, I do think he is a great guy and his case is an anecdote worth studying if you are making a study of this fasting idea.

Quote from lil chick on April 6, 2024, 10:54 amI suppose these examples above show there are many ways to approach fasting, Alex's occasional fast, Cass Eliot's crash diet fast, and Butter Bob's intermittent fast.
Probably the most important thing to think about is that fasting is going to be detox. And that detox needs certain things to happen properly. For example, maybe protein. And detox needs time too.
