FWIW, Udo Erasmus has been consuming seed oils for over 40 years (Granted he has a product to promote/sale so one always wonders about agenda? - think of Brian Johnson, Liver King), my overall impression of him is favorable and genuine though. Udo proclaims to be on no meds (he is currently 81) and is a firm believer in consuming all the vitamins (including VA) and minerals, amino acids and EFA's for health. It's really cute if you go to his facebook page you can see him demonstrating his mini trampoline excercise routine - his bone health appears to be in tip-top shape! I really liked Ray Peat (RIP). He seemed very knowledgeable. He ascribed to alternative theories, that may or may not be true. The thing is, unlike Udo, Ray Peat had multiple health issues that made me question his authority as a health coach. I understand he did a lot of experimentation with diet. For instance, he apparently at one time tried to eat only wheat bran? while teaching in Mexico at which point his teeth began to rot. (high phosphorus content) I recall him describing how he self-treated melanoma skin cancer. Not really sure what was going on with vocal cords? I think he partially got his ideas about ice-cream from an article he read about a centenarian who loved eating strawberry ice-cream (although there's probably more to it than that).
FYI. You can read Udo's book, "Fat's that Heal, Fat's that Kill" for free on internet archives open library. A bit outdated as he wrote it in the late 80's early 90's. But it still has a lot of good information in there.

I never said that like that. I said IF YOU CONSUME CALORIE EXCESS all the extra dietary fat that is not used by the body for all kinds of essential functions like hormone production, nervous system, cell membranes etc.. all the rest is stored in the fat cells. What is so hard understand about that? When you eat "normal" mixed diet so carbs and fats the body will always use mostly carbs as energy and like I said store the rest of the fats that are not needed. So don't twist what I said pls. I know that low fat vegans like DurianRider, Mcdougall "the fat you eat is the fat you wear" and that is true, BUT ONLY in scenario of calorie excess. Anyway if you think that you can't gain weight on keto diet just try it. Eat like 5000kcal from full fat dairy, coconut oil, fatty meats etc. and tell me how it's going after couple of months...

Also if anyone here started to lose weight by eating more fat, then they probably have some level of insulin resistance, which in itself is not normal.
(I guess it is normal in today’s society).

Yeah because our bodies are just basic math machines and hormones don't exist.
If it really was that simple people would be losing weight all over the place.
I don't even know why you talk about insulin resistance. If people lost weight by eating fat they obviously only ate less calories. Sounds pretty close to you being a basic maths denier. Slippery slope right there. I'd watch it if I were you.

Quote from Alex on May 22, 2023, 12:54 am@PJ that’s interesting I will check out Udo. A couple of days ago on the RP forum I commented on how I thought Ray Peat acted very estrogenic, low dopamine, socially awkward in all the videos of him online and that he is not exactly the poster boy for what following his principles of a high metabolism diet should promote. I had a lot of people disagree and get annoyed with me saying he’s not estrogenic or socially awkward at all. To me it seems like his dopamine synthesis is impaired as that will cause motor function issues making you socially awkward. His mannerisms are also very estrogenic. He is a big advocate of antibiotics but what about Candida and fungi which antibiotics can promote the growth of. Sugar also feeds yeast like crazy, so I think that is a possible cause of his neurotransmitter issues. Also he ate a lot of shellfish and gelatin and these are high in heavy metals and pollutants. Drinking so much milk can increase calcium too much which can cause glutamate and excitotoxicity issues.
Personally I don’t think whole food PUFA is that bad, I eat oats regularly. Just PUFA oils can become a problem as they’re more prone to oxidation. Since my gallbladder went wrong I became extremely sensitive to oxidised oils so I can tell easily if something is oxidised by it giving me fast pulse, gallbladder/liver pain, it was also smell and taste a bit bitter depending on how rancid it is. When I was eating this biona brand organic smooth almond butter half the ones I bought were rancid and half were fine. I read somewhere that apparently humans have lost their ability to tell if oils are rancid or not. So I guess I’m one of the lucky ones. I do find if I have eaten something with PUFA oil, I don’t feel great but then if I eat a spoon of coconut oil it cancels out the bad effects of the PUFA.

@Tommy, I gave up on calories-in-calories-out long ago. It just doesn't stand up to my reality. Your body decides lots of things on it's own including how much fat to keep on board and how much muscle. Some of it is genetic, and some of it is in reaction to life. It's so much more complex (insulin resistance is a good example of that) than basic math.
I'm not saying that if you starve an animal it won't loose weight. But talk to any person such as me who "just doesn't gain" and you will find that no matter how much that person eats, he or she just doesn't gain.
If calories in/calories out was true, dieting would be so much more useful and successful.
The only time I ever really got "fat" was when I was under the influence of pregnancy hormones. And then everyone was amazed. I think I gained about 60 pounds. It all came off without dieting over the course of a year or two. I ate loads before, during and after.
If calories in/out was true, think about how careful or consistent I'd have to be to still fit some of my clothing I bought 40 years ago?
I think many special diets can run you calorie deficit, and I definitely have been there, and you begin to dream about food and if you are a woman you might stop mensing.
The most important thing you get from food is calories. When I garden, I actually think often about whether I will put in more calories than I get out.
Going calorie deficient might have its own problems in the long run. So, IMO, no healthful diet is ever calorie deficient.
"Low calorie food" is sort of an oxymoron if you ask me.

Quote from Jiří on May 22, 2023, 10:54 am@jessica2 sorry, but you are wrong. I was spiking insulin 6 times a day with foods like rice and I was still losing weight(fat) because I was simply in calorie deficit. You don't have to tell me that the body has no idea what "calorie" is. It is simply tool for us. Calories are useful tool, but only for people who know at least basics how metabolism and human body works. You @lil-chick and most people do it simply wrong. It is not about saying oh I will be eating 1300kcal a day and will lose weight.. That is completely wrong and it will just damage your metabolism. You should look on your food and see how much calories it is. It could be too little already and that could be a reason for a lot of people why they have slow metabolism and why they are fat.. So calorie counting will help you to keep eating more and you watch over time what it does with your body. So you can adjust the amount of food accordingly to add more or to lower it a bit if the person eats really a lot of calories.. This is especially helpful for people who have zero idea about how much calories are in certain foods. That they for example just by drinking consuming daily intake for adult male etc.. For me I just look at food and know roughly how much carbs, protein, fat it has. So I know how much I can eat and not starting gain fat or if I want to burn fat I know how much food I need to pull out to lower calories just enough. But normal people have no idea about stuff like this.. They just lower calorie intake like crazy to basically crash diet so no wonder they will damage their metabolism and when they stop they will overeat like crazy and will end up in cycles of jojo dieting and damaging metabolism, gaining fat in the process.. Of course ideally you should just eat healthy whole food diet as much as your body needs, move your body and the body will stay in balance on ideal weight for your body. But that is not reality for most people.. Most people are completely lost and just use foods as comfort, they eat because they are bored etc.. Not to mention they have no routine. They have no idea what they were eating 2 days ago, they go to bed in different hour every day etc.. Again athletes and sport people are masters of routine. They figured this out long before some health gurus or biohacking experts.. I am from that world and for me it is just crazy to read in this topic how calorie counting is useless how you can't gain weight from saturated fat, how you will get fat from insulin spike by eating rice etc.. It is just insane.. Again lack of understanding how the human body works and/or this religious diet group thinking that sugar makes you fat, fat makes you fat, insulin makes you fat. Tell athlete with 3% body fat that he is fat from eating 1000g of sugars a day.. Common it is laughable..

Quote from Jiří on May 22, 2023, 12:06 pm@jessica2 If you want to be healthy not just lose weight yes there is many factors obviously. But like I said when it comes to just lose weight calories in and calories out is the most important factor 100%.. Btw there is plenty of people even in fitness world who are doing "IIFYM" which means If It Fits Your Macros.. So there are people really eating just junk food and what they like and they can maintain lean physique. Simply you will not lose weight(fat) if you eat excess of calories even with healthy diet. This idea that there are foods that you can eat unlimited amount and magically the calories from them don't do anything with the body is literally crazy.. and vise versa you can lose weight on some junk food like this guy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTi5ugF9Bdk
and for the last time insulin will not make you gain weight if you are not in surplus of calories. Look at fruitarians who are spiking their insulin 20 times a day with sugar. They are skin and bones. Why? Because it is almost impossible to overeat on whole fruits.. But with mixed diet it very easy to just eat some fast food like one big Mcdonalds meal with milk shake and you already ate too much calories...
