I am new here , legumes / lentils are a staple in our cultural diet and we always eat them with fat ( not too much though )
but for now I am eating half a cup of chickpeas ( with a bit of salt and lemon ) apart from my main meal which includes the regular cooked lentils ( 1/2 a cup ) with a bit of ghee

Are you the Naveen from Dr Smith’s group? I’m Jenny from there - I signed up with my initials here for no good reason & haven’t changed it!
Hi Tim
I don’t think that Karen Hurd suggests no fat as she wants people to eat a source of protein at each 3 meals - meat, fish, eggs & x3 portions of beans are with the meals. However, she doesn’t count humous/hummus as a source of beans as it’s got too much fat with it & she wants any nuts/seeds to be eaten 1.5 hours away from the beans. I think she doesn’t want high fat with the beans from memory. I have bought one of her pricey courses so I need to re-listen to exactly what she says. I take the view that some fat is ok but I wouldn’t overdo it. Grant presumably eats his beans with his meat & has done well.

Now when you mentioned ghee. Oh I was eating like at least 50g a day of very yellow home made ghee. Because it is the best healing fat right? 100g has 3000iu of retinol wow... Btw I don't know why people avoid very tasty meat like chicken and turkey thighs and are eating tasteless chicken breasts or white fish.. If you remove all melted fat from the thighs that is on the pan it has the same retinol content like beef will have.. The fat is really yellowish in color so it will be rich in retinol for sure like ghee is..

Quote from lil chick on June 10, 2020, 6:31 amLike Jiffi, I prefer the dark meat of poultry, and I eat the juices and make broth from the carcasses. I'm not on a zero VA diet. And I feel the juices from meats are quite healthy and probably have things like B vities and K.

Quote from Navn on June 10, 2020, 7:02 am2 teaspoon of ghee for 3 cups of cooked lentils , if one teaspoon is equals to 7 gms that would be around 420IU of retinol for 2 tsp , shared by 3 people ? I cook my family meals in ghee too ,use around 3 tablespoons , between 3 people for two meals . Making progress too !
