Garrett's Vitamin A detox package
Quote from Josh on March 24, 2019, 2:28 amQuote from Doublecapricorn on January 13, 2019, 7:42 amHas anyone purchased this?
I don't want anyone to give away the information in it but I am unemployed and I wanted to see what anyone thought about it before I purchased it.
Would just doing a Google search for Vitamin A antagonists be just as good? Thank you!
I purchased Garrett's detox protocol about a month ago. I thought it was very much worth the investment, and I'm happy I bought it. There are several things he mentions there to help with detox (both speeding it up and easing detox symptoms) that he doesn't really talk about anywhere else, nor have I seen them really mentioned here. I think his insights about the way that glyphosate interacts with vitamin A to increase its toxicity is really important, and the protocol gives several suggestions about how to lower the concentration of glyphosate in the body, too. Also, he has recently said on FB that he thinks he made a breakthrough in understanding something that will really help facilitate/speed up detox. He says he will be adding info to the detox folder soon. He may also make it known on his blog or FB page, I'm not sure.

If it does become public domain, let us know 🙂 any new insights would be awesome, especially concerning roundup and pesticides.

Quote from Guest on March 24, 2019, 2:09 pmThanks Josh. That's good to know. I'm considering purchasing the folder too. I've been low A for several months. I feel like I'm detoxing, getting old symptoms back and generally feeling worse but don't seem to get improvements. It's like my body has too much trouble getting rid of it fully. Just started taking zeolite hoping that might help otherwise might buy the folder if I can spare the expense.

I'd say you're more likely to make progress on the diet Grant has outlined rather than the more liberal diet that Garrett created. I will say though that beans did not work for me, they caused VA symptoms, probably because I didn't digest them properly and bacteria in my got produced retinol.

Yes, Zeolite is a very good idea for detoxing--not just from Vitamin A but from heavy metals and other toxins as well. You can consult Garrett's Amazon shopping list for specific product recommendation on that:
https://nutritionrestored.com/blog-forum/topic/click-on-link-to-go-to-product-list-at-amazon/
The other issue with zeolite is dosing. Here is a helpful website: http://zeolitedosing.com/zeolite-powder-directions/
Garrett has put a lot of research into specific product choices, so if you are going to buy any of the supplements or other products he recommends, you should probably buy the specific product he recommends, for example vitamin E supplements: https://nutritionrestored.com/blog-forum/topic/vitamin-e/
Actually, the section on his forum on compounds that help protect against or detox vitamin A is very instructive:
As is the section on compounds that stimulate vitamin A in a bad way:
I admit to being conflicted between wanting to help people on the one hand but also not wanting to give away Garret's secrets. I greatly admire Grant for giving away his advice for free, but I also understand that he doesn't make a living at giving people dietary advice, where as Garrett does.
I feel like I can share the following information, because I got it from his forum. It's in the detox protocol as well, but I don't think it's highlighted in exactly this way:
Retinol binding protein is one of the body's major defenses against retinol toxicity (although it also helps the body circulate retinol around the body, so I guess it's not without its downsides either). There are 3 things your body needs in order to make RBP:
1. Protein (lots of it)
2. Zinc
3. Vitamin E
You can probably get enough protein and zinc through diet (find foods high in zinc and low in vit A like sesame/tahini), but vitamin E is more of a problem. You can take the vitamin E supplement Garrett recommends (see link above about vitamin E or see the Amazon product recommendation).

You might be right, but most people can't do the diet that Grant did. Garrett brings a wealth of knowledge to this, and Grant has given the protocol his seal of approval. It turns out that avoiding vitamin A/carotenoids is a lot trickier than you'd think.
Garrett has also been scouring through the clinical research on retinol and has learned a lot. For example, your problem with beans probably has to do with resistant starch that can be found in beans cooked in certain ways. A lot of foods can be rich in resistant starch, even rice. Garrett has found studies showing that resistant starch interacts with vitamin A in a bad way. Here is a post from his forum about it, but he also has a video in the Detox Protocol that gives more practical advice on how to avoid resistant starch:

If you follow the advice in this comment, it will already help with roundup and pesticides. In addition, you should eat organic as much as possible and also filter your water. Brita won't cut it. You need more, like reverse osmosis or Berkey.
Also see here, though they haven't yet finished their detox advice: https://detoxproject.org/10-things-you-need-to-know-about-glyphosate/
You can find a lot more information about how and why glyphosate enhances the negative effects of vitamin A (because it inhibits the cell's natural ability to breakdown of retinoic acid).
I really do recommend purchasing the detox protocol as it is filled with lots of specific, detailed and practical advice--much more than any "secrets" I might have given away. For example, would you know how to recognize the names of all the various retinoid compounds that are found in creams, makeup, sunscreen, nail polish, ointments, etc.? He's got a long list of them so you can identify them. Same for vitamin A food additives.

Great summary Josh. I have found Garrett's food list helpful to navigate as it give me more scope on what is Ok for my daughter as well as area's I can have flexibility. I don't feel the need to be strict like Grant for my daughter as she doesn't have any big issues. I figure if she is low VA majority of the time then she can have more variety from the list. I figure I need a long term strategy to navigate low VA and need to make it practical. Naturally we have low VA foods at home and my main focus is to instill thought and awareness how our bodies respond. At 11 she is making the VA links to diseases and pondering with me.
Garrett's food list is not a blanket approach for everybody. You still need to personalise what works for you and what doesn't. For me I am following a more limited Grant style diet 70% of the time and use the list to navigate the rest. The choice is personal and depending on your health issues.
I was already a client so the supplement list simply reinforced what I was taking however it does help me navigate how I would adjust it when not getting his protocols.
Sophie I have had some improvements, although not consistently and just very slow progress with others. If I went back to the list of VA issues and see how many have changed, there would be quite a few changes. I have had retracing of old symptoms and some worsening with insomnia. I started the Zeolite about 5 ish months and it has been 2.5 weeks. In the last week it felt really hard with great tiredness, insomnia intensified and a return of occiput and head tension. I felt like I was walking around with jelly in my head and the brain fog making it hard to focus. Now it feels like things are shifting yet again. I know I would make progress following Grant's approach however I appreciate the extra support that Garrett provides.

Quote from Mokus on March 26, 2019, 3:20 pmOh and another thing I have noticed is my food cravings. In the last 2 weeks I have been needing more red meat and interestingly it has coincided with me feeling totally crap. So needing to adjust and tweek your diet is a huge bonus, no matter what food list you follow.

That's a great summary. I check Dr Gs Facebook regularly so I stay up to date with all the free info. He does give quite a lot of information for free so can't complain.
I probably do need to increase my protein as I've been craving more meat lately too.

That sounds great. I think instilling awareness about how our bodies respond to food is so important and most of us have grown up completely disconnected from that. My kids are also now on a low but not zero vitamin A diet. I have been talking non-stop about vitamin A to anyone who will listen. Two of my sister-in-laws have asked me not to talk about it around their kids, as they don't want their kids to stop eating colorful vegetables. They are SO SCARED that their kids are going to get some kind of nutrient deficiency. It's really amazing the propaganda snowjob the agro-pharma industry has done on people. They are so frightened.
I also wanted to add that some of the foods on Garrett's OK list do contains small amounts of vitamin A/carotenoids. So it may indeed not be for everybody. Another good thing I can say about it is that it includes some advice about the detox process in general, what to expect, etc. I think that would be helpful for someone with a more serious illness who is trying to heal with this diet. I am fortunate in that I don't have major health problems. My sisters is going to start seeing Garrett soon. She has suffered from horrible chronic neuropathic pain for going on 15 years. I really hope this helps her!! Of course I will post updates elsewhere if it does.

That's the most crazy part. There is nothing essential to colorful fruits and veggies. Vit A is found in many animal products if it's needed at all.
