Glycine - glyfosate - retinol connection
Quote from Liz on February 19, 2019, 11:33 pmOmg!!! Thanks John! 😀 😀 Since glycine is part of glutatione, no wonder it is such an important amino acid. Have you come across any "optimal" oral dose? It states above 2g is being syntetized, but also that it metabolizes quickly when taken orally. Brind states 8g/day being sufficient, i take 2 teaspoonfulls a day myself.
I have a dear friend of mine with chronic hepatitis B and i have found some studies indicating that glycine can help with that as well. The above 2 studies really help explaining glycine's positive role, i will print them out and highlight the important bits. I am preparing a package to send with some supps and highlighted studies to explain in a non-scientific-non-conspiracy way why going A free, organic and supplement with glycine might help his condition, supported by science ofc. You can lead a horse to the water but not force it to drink...

Quote from hillcountry on February 23, 2019, 2:25 pmHi Liz, I hear ya on that last bit. It's a great feeling when you do really help a friend and that sure makes it worth it. Hope you help your friend. I'm taking between 4 - 8 grams of glycine a day per Joel Brind's recommendation. It's like insurance I guess, but it's funny too, cause then I started reading about Proline, and it becomes a slippery-slope; but sooner or later (hopefully) trusting my diet may suffice. If Stephanie Seneff is correct in her latest research, it's more difficult than just supplementing though, because she says glyphosate substitutes for glycine in protein synthesis (it's very close molecularly - basically glycine with another molecule hooked to the nitrogen - haven't looked at both of them side-by-side yet myself) - anyway, when one of those proteins is used to makes a 3-D something else - other things that normally fit there, don't fit. She's pretty much blaming everything on glyphosate, even a disturbed Vitamin A metabolism, which she says then leads to further toxicity. This video from three weeks ago is the summary of her latest thoughts. She's ripping through papers and sounds pretty excited. They talk a bit about a lawsuit against Monsanto as well, and previous knowledge on Monsanto's part of glyphosate toxicity that has been discovered via FOIA and otherwise.

Quote from hillcountry on February 23, 2019, 9:02 pmFound this while searching Glyphosate papers. I wonder how Ginko Biloba could have the effect they're claiming, in the context of what Stephanie Seneff is saying about the glycine-substitution mechanism of Glyphosate toxicity. I guess it would make sense to find out what is known about Ginko Biloba. I think we used to drink the tea for something, probably memory, ha!
J Med Food. 2011 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21859351
Protective effect of Ginkgo biloba L. leaf extract against glyphosate toxicity in Swiss albino mice. Treatment with G. biloba produced amelioration in indices of hepatotoxicity, nephrotoxicity, lipid peroxidation, and genotoxicity relative to Group II. Each dose of G. biloba provided significant protection against glyphosate-induced toxicity, and the strongest effect was observed at a dose of 150 mg/kg of body weight. Thus, in vivo results showed that G. biloba extract is a potent protector against glyphosate-induced toxicity, and its protective role is dose-dependent.

Quote from Liz on February 23, 2019, 11:06 pmThat is really interesting about the ginko bilboa... How unexpected.
Best would be to stop all glyfosate of course, and yes, the theory that glyfosate mimics glycine fxxing up the body was the main reason I went 100% organic some time ago. Europe wanted to take it out of use in EU but one country changed its mind last minute which gave glyfosate use an additional 5 years until next vote. My country is not allowed to use it during the growth period at all, but a neighbouring country is using it before harvest to even out the ripe-ness of the crops. So each country still have their separate regulations.
Considering what has already been found/written/published about glyfosate, it should have been taken off the market a long time ago. It is frightening, how money rules over people's lives and health. If they even have enough information for a lawsuit, i dont get why no one has done anything already!! I really hope they go forward with it, i really do.
Let us know if you stumble upon anything else 🙂

Quote from Guest on February 24, 2019, 8:33 amToday I got my taurine and glycine. First I took some taurine, it was calming, stabilizing, my hands got warmer. Then maybe 30 minutes later I took glycine. Almost instant anxiety. I don't think glycine is for me.

I cannot remember the context, I will try and find the info. But taking glycine in slow oxidation is not recommended. It will backfire. So it might be best to wait until, you have depleted lots of VA and test glycine again.

Quote from Janelle525 on February 24, 2019, 12:29 pmYeah glycine caused panic attacks for me. Not necessarily from the collagen in pot roast though. So I wouldn't recommend glycine for most people.

Interesting. I'm still anxious, hopefully it will be gone by tomorrow. I don't remember gelatin/collagen causing any anxiety for me, quite the opposite. Orion what exactly do you mean by slow oxidizer? And is slow oxidation caused by retinol, sounds interesting i hope you'll be able to find the info

Quote from Guest on February 24, 2019, 6:57 pmI've got a very slow metabolism and never noticed a pronounced effect from glycine or taurine and if anything a benefit from glycine and anxiety from collagen.

Quote from Liz on February 24, 2019, 9:58 pmInteresting people are having different effects.
I take taurine and now I dont notice anything but it used to help a lot with my digestion.
When I took up glycine again i started healing from surgery insanely fast. One day I was exhausted, bed ridden, out of breath and in pain still 2 weeks post. One day with glycine later and I was up cleaning, doing laundry, no pain and out of breathness had improved a lot. It was like night and day. I love that shit 😍
