Insomnia

PreviousPage 3 of 5Next

I think trouble sleeping well definitely is a part of VA-overload for me (we all seem to be having slightly different experiences, LOL)   Here at 15 months or so, I do feel like I'm sleeping better over all.  Less achy, less itchy etc.   Not perfect tho.

The reason I posted what I did is because I took some vD (I had been neglecting to take it) and noticed an immediate improvement in my sleep. So I looked it up and found VDD does cause insomnia. Perhaps part of the reason vD can help is due to counteracting vA.

I especially think that getting VD from the sun would help in multiple ways 1. natural light helps set your inner clock  2.  denaturing VA on the surface of eyes and skin 3.  the vitamin D.  Of course there is the fresh air aspect too.

I often garden during cool times, perhaps I should sit outside at noon for 5 minutes for the added D, and this

for some people taking the vitamin D at night causes insomnia too. so take it in the morning if you have that issue.

i don't think we need the extra vitamin D once our total VA stores are low enough. I just had my 1 yr 11m labs. My vitamin D level prior to starting the diet WITH 5k-7.5k IU per day d3 was 38.5. Now almost 2 years on the low VA diet and zero added d3, vitamin D level is 38.2. I've used sun/UVB for 4-5 years+ so that was stable the whole time.

@pano200 "i don't think we need the extra vitamin D once our total VA stores are low enough."

even when the person can't sunbath for some reason or use UVB lamps etc.?? Like for example someone living on Island and have no money on UVB lamp or solarium? For that person is D3 supplement only option.. Just because you don't have vit A excess doesn't mean you don't need vit D...

imo, probably, still too early to tell. i believe grant's vit d levels were fine, and he said he didn't sunbathe or use uvb lamps nor take vit d. i feel like we're just chasing a level for vitamin d and i don't think that's appropriate. it seems like low vitamin d  levels is just a surrogate for high vitamin A total body stores. plenty of vitamin d supplementation studies out there with terrible results. don't get me wrong, vitamin d is still important, but low VA is much more important.

@pano200 I don't chase any number. But I think that there is plenty of people who are not vit A toxic and are vit D deficient and have health issues from it. Like old people or people in general who are in hospital etc.. To say that person doesn't need vit D if he has low vit A in the body is completely crazy..

i'm cool with that. different opinions. i still think the low vitamin d is mostly due to high total body stores of vitamin A.

you have very strong opinions. i'm not gonna argue or i'm crazy i guess.

@pano200  I agree about vit A and D conneciton, but I don't understand why you don't think that there is A LOT of people who simply don't go outside on the sun? Like I said mostly older people, sick people. People living in places where it is hard to get enough of sunshine + they work 12 hours a day in the office/factory etc..
