Insomnia

Like I said mostly older people, sick people. People living in places where it is hard to get enough of sunshine + they work 12 hours a day in the office/factory etc..
i do of course! there are plenty of people who can't get enough sun or don't live in places where it's even optimal to get vitamin D... so many factors for getting adequate UVB rays to your skin... where you live, cloudiness, % skin exposure, time in sun, smog, time of day, etc.
anecdotal: but i read on reddit where surfers have low vitamin D and their dermatologists are baffled. weird to them, not so weird to us.

Quote from lil chick on August 11, 2020, 1:51 pmIt appears that my hair and nails grow fast when I'm more replete with VD. I've seen that many times.
I like little signs like that, I think they can mean a lot.
I've heard white spots on nails can mean zinc is low-- don't have experience with that one. I wonder if it just disappears or has to grow out.
Peeling lips, low B vities... I'm starting to think my peeling lips might be down to egg white, which can deplete one of the B's, but more experiment is needed.

Quote from Jiří on August 11, 2020, 10:12 pm@lil-chick how much egg whites are you eating? Most athletes are eating crazy amounts of egg whites and they are not walking biotin deficiency. 🙂 Like I said they can inhibit absorption of biotin IN THAT MEAL. So don't eat egg whites for every single meal or take your B complex away from your egg white meal and you are ok.. 😀

Quote from pano200 on August 11, 2020, 9:41 amfor some people taking the vitamin D at night causes insomnia too. so take it in the morning if you have that issue.
i don't think we need the extra vitamin D once our total VA stores are low enough. I just had my 1 yr 11m labs. My vitamin D level prior to starting the diet WITH 5k-7.5k IU per day d3 was 38.5. Now almost 2 years on the low VA diet and zero added d3, vitamin D level is 38.2. I've used sun/UVB for 4-5 years+ so that was stable the whole time.
It will be great if low serum retinol has a vD sparing effect. I'm not into every day vD supplementation but it is somewhat of an antidote to vA and many of us get minimal UVB so it's a pretty useful supplement IMO. I prefer to take large doses once in a while, because it's a fat soluble this is an acceptable approach as long as one understands how much is appropriate to take. I think that UVB is the best way though.

Quote from Jiří on August 12, 2020, 8:05 am@tim-2 UVB is best for sure, but only if you can handle it.. Because it is form of oxidative stress and most people in bad shape can't handle it. In my worse I was like vampire. 5 minutes on the sun and I was burning + the inability to sweat. It was just crazy.. Now I am still far from healthy(I think more due to copper/mercury issues than vit A) but I can stay on the sun. I sweat and my skin can turn darker.. Btw taking D3 pills can be a big problem because it lowers potassium and increases calcium. Which can be real issue for people with already very slow metabolism(high calcium and low potassium on hair test..) But from UVB it is much safer for sure. I try to force myself now every day to stay on the sun naked at least 1 hour. It is like sauna section. I sweat like a pig.. Great detox. I think...

Quote from lil chick on August 13, 2020, 7:35 am@jiri: naked at noon! SCANDALOUS 🙂
I realized sleep much better when I take zero caffeine after 10:30 AM. That is like duh but as I've said, this process gets you back to brass tacks.
In other words, all the old good advice people give actually works once you parse VA out of the problem.

Quote from Даниил on July 21, 2021, 7:41 pmI have a theory... Which can explain it... I think the problem may be in the overload of copper. Copper is a cofactor of the synthesis from dopamine to norepinephrine and then to adenalin. This probably prevents you from falling asleep. I have noticed that I feel sleepy after eating and taking aspirin. I think the protein induces the synthesis of cerruloplasmin, and aspirin chelates copper. However, for a long time I could not understand why I had a perfect sleep on a vegan diet with more than 3 mg of copper per day. And today I guessed that the answer may be in the content of molybdenum in legumes. Although Ray is against molybdenum additives, so we should probably come up with something else.
I also have a theory that aromatase inhibitors, such as caffeine, cause a "dump" of copper due to a decrease in estrogen and they can also aggravate insomnia.
@lil-chick thank you for your comment, I will keep in mind

Quote from Pawel on November 21, 2023, 1:48 amI went sick ~three weeks ago. Most probably this year's influenza or another XYZ another COVID variant. Not so long after I began my experiment with low vA diet. This coincided with a new phenomenon: me waking up in the middle of the night (usually at 01:00 - 02:00 am) and then being able to fall back asleep only at ~06:00 am. This has been happening every day for two weeks already. I am not saying that this is 100% related to the new, low vA diet (how would that even work?), but I cannot come up with any other reason either.
Any thoughts?
