Being able to tolerate beans is such a game changer (and of course, lots of thiamine in those
)! I’ll be curious to hear how the NA enemas affect things.
How much charcoal are you taking on a typical day?
On the TLO (Trying Low Oxalate) Facebook Group, there are a few anecdotal reports of activated charcoal helping oxalate dumping symptoms, but as I can’t find any research on that, it’s hard to guess how exactly...but is possible, anyway. Also: I don’t think it affects nutrient absorption any more than fiber does, if my being able to stop most of my supplements after dramatically increasing my activated charcoal dose (in November 2023) is any indication.
For dry skin and eyes, I just sent a post to Sand regarding Castor Oil. If that interests you, there are a few links to more information here in Sand’s Log. Some people claim it supports liver detoxification and hormonal balance, too, but there’s limited research on that.
ETA: To second what @jiri said, I know Jenny has posted here about high-dose vitamin C causing major problems for her for a couple of reasons, the oxalate issue potentially being one.
Thanks! It is great to be able to digest again! Now I'm dealing with low blood sugar and hunger! Ah! Like refeeding syndrome.
I was using 1/2-1 tsp AC split morning and before sleep. I think it is hugely beneficial for those of us with SIBO.
Yeah I've used castor oil for dry eye, it does help. Thankfully my dry eye cleared up pretty quickly as I went further on the detox diet.
I am not taking any vitamin C anymore. Crazy because I've tried so many times to get off it.

Quote from Janelle525 on March 4, 2024, 11:37 amSo it's been 2 full months of using charcoal morning and night and trying my hardest to avoid eating dairy lol! Beginning was rough, I was still eating ice cream here and there, but I seemed to have decreased to maybe once a week or so. But then I started eating tons of dried cranberries. And they are loaded with added sugar! I was craving them everyday until recently, so today will be the first day in a couple weeks I don't have any. I am not used to craving sugar! I was eating so much over the yrs I almost got sick of it! But I think the high added sugar diet is what caused my buttcrack rash, I think it's actually a very deep systemic fungus problem. Which is why it never responded to anything. It is still there just way less itchy. I use buffered niacin on it everyday for a month and it helped stop the itch and peeling. But it is not healed yet.
I think I have toxic heavy metals in my system promoting fungal infection. When I got a hair test done back in 2015 it showed very little toxic metals, like practically none. That's not a good sign. It means I wasn't detoxing because we are all exposed to metals like lead and mercury. I still have 2 amalgam fillings too. One fell out yrs ago. And one is from 26 yrs ago. I hope that one doesn't have much mercury left.
I have been trying to take the 3 'keystone' minerals, selenium, zinc and molybdenum. I've been having some anxiety as a result. One night I woke up feeling really hot and had pretty bad anxiety. That hasn't happened to me in a while so I'm definitely stirring things up. I know heavy metal detoxing can be really rough, I don't want to cause panic attacks if I can help it so I'll just continue going slower in the metal stuff, but I don't think my skin problems will clear completely until this is solved. I really did not want to have to get this diagnosed at a doctor because I know I wouldn't take the drugs anyway. Chris Masterjohn says for every 100 grams of animal protein we need 100 mcg molybdenum which explains why beans and beef go so well together!
I'm just so glad I can tolerate fiber again. My puffy toes went away on the brown rice. So I think it was too much white rice either from lack of b vitamins or just swelling from starch.
The niacin makes me feel pretty sleepy lately, I'm not even taking it orally. I was using it in the enema quite a lot and spraying it on. But I decided I shouldn't do enemas, every time I would do one I'd sleep pretty bad. Rarely had good sleep doing enemas and I think that is catching up to me.

Thanks lil chick! Yep borax is one I tried as well. Topical as well as internal. I never felt quite right on it internally though so I didn't try that for long. So if it is fungal it's gotta be something pretty hard to eradicate as I tried topical antifungals as well. I even tried bleach baths :/

Quote from Janelle525 on March 12, 2024, 12:32 pmSo I took a break from researching and thinking about health stuff. I realized I had gotten obsessive again. That's not going to promote health for me, never has. I have stuck to eating beef beans and rice at least once a day, but I've been allowing myself ice cream when I want it. I just don't really have a good alternative other than eating more starch and meat and I just don't crave that at all. I am also on the fence about whether low fat diets are good. Can we force our body to start burning mostly carbs? I'm not sure. I think I was in fat oxidation which is why I can't quit the ice cream for long I get super hungry. It feels good to be hungry and not 'weighed' down by fats, but I still have this belief that saturated fats are metabolism promoting. I guess it's going to be hard to change that.

Quote from Eio on March 12, 2024, 5:58 pmI still have a small amount of ice cream each day. It is about 1-2 tablespoons but it is satisfying. The only added fat we have is 1-2 teaspoons of coconut oil at lunch on rice and beans. It sounds like you are doing great. It helps to have small amounts of stuff I crave just so I won't waste time thinking about it.

Quote from lil chick on March 13, 2024, 7:05 am@janelle525 My guess is it isn't fungal, I've personally given up on the fungal model of itch as it never helped me. My butt gets itchy when carotenes come through it. Perhaps this will stop when your detox slows. I'm almost to 4 years (slow boat) and still sometimes come out in itchy rashes on my torso *when I sweat*. A butt crack can be a sweaty place.
You might want to wear 100% organic white cotton (granny?) panties. I wouldn't go with thong. And perhaps go nakee in bed at night to prevent sweat at those times. I like 100% cotton flannel sheets because I feel they are more absorbent than sateen.
There is a nice company called Cottonique. Be careful and go slow ordering, they offer no refunds.
I had a German neighbor, she said: Don't itch: Wash. Itching makes things much worse and washing with soap IS the right idea.

We are on the same wave length! I have been wearing 100% cotton panties now for a couple yrs. My sheets are cotton too, but I definitely like sleeping a bit too warm. That's when the itch started right in the middle of summer. But never stopped even in the dead of winter. Doing this diet has been the least amount of itch since then. So even if it never went away completely I'd be happy with less desire to itch. Yeah itching definitely creates inflammation, I've tried wiping it with a gentle baby wipe everytime it gets to the have to itch it for 5 minutes stage, that helped for a little while lol, gosh I feel like the only thing I haven't tried is an extreme elimination diet! I do think Garrett Smith is on the right track with the minerals, I do want to do a longer trial of the selenium, zinc and molybdenum trio. Can't seem to stay on it due to side effects. Selenium didn't have many though so maybe I'll just try that first.

Been eating peanuts last couple days and boy the IBS came on fast this time! I think that's a record for me. So whole nuts are completely out for now (peanut butter seems okay). Makes me really appreciate that I hadn't dealt with it for so long. It's been at least 3 months since the last episode. I had a really bad period this month, went 6 days overdue, and then had big clots and bled for 7 days. That happened a few months ago too. Not sure what is causing it other than I am almost 39. I did have some issues this month with my emotions I think that was a significant factor. I was processing some deep stuff.
I think we need to avoid being dogmatic about anything. I felt myself becoming dogmatic about the vitamin A stuff and I think that was harmful. Meri posted a video about a study showing how much carotenoids and retinol are in animals meats and liver. Grass fed beef has quite a bit in the muscle of each! you can meet the RDA with just grass fed beef! I think she was saying in the other video that it does turn into retinoic acid though, maybe through cooking? I'm not sure, seems retinol is quite unstable. But this just completely blows the idea that eating lean meat, rice and beans is a low vitamin A diet! But Grant must be eating meat with very little of it, maybe they are grain fed animals, that has very little vitamin A because his serum has been practically nothing, or maybe most of the retinol in animal protein is oxidized by the time we eat it. We need more study on this.
I have been reconsidering everything I know about nutrition! First that we do need sulfur, in the sulfate form to detox. So I am starting epsom salt baths again. I used to do them a lot and I was in much better health then. But I also realized sulfites are in every processed food it seems! They don't have to be labelled if below 10 ppm. Wine is 50 ppm, so if you react to wine, then even 10 ppm might be too much. Sulfite is a toxin, but you won't notice much if you have well functioning sulfite oxidase which needs molybdenum to turn sulfite into sulfate.
I just found out the mega vitamin man Andrew W. Saul died of congestive heart failure just before turning 69. He was a huge proponent of high dose vitamin C and other vitamins used like drugs. I wonder if he was taking retinol or cod liver oil. I wish someone would address this. We need to know what killed him!
But I stumbled on a substack that exposes how vitamins are made. It's making me never want to take another supplement ever again! So be forewarned it may change your mind on whatever you are taking! https://substack.com/@chemtrails
B vitamins are produced from coal tar as I'm sure you were aware, they aren't from real foods, but we are told they are chemically the same as what in is our body. I'm not so sure anymore. Not only is vitamin D rat poison but niacin which is made from pyridine is listed as being used to make pesticides! Now I don't think we can say niacin IS a pesticide like we can say vitamin D is rat poison, but seems the rabbit hole goes much further than we thought!
"3-Cyanopyridine is also called Nicotinamine, white solid crystals or colorless liquid, mainly used for vitamin nicotinamide, niacin products’ manufacturing. Used for pesticide and intermediates 2-Chloronicotinic acid, Pymetrozine and other products’ manufacturing." http://www.china-redpont.cn/en/index.php/make/pyridine
Chemistry is crazy! Maybe the resulting 'vitamin' is chemically the same as in our body, but.... do we really want to be taking supplements that are produced in a factory from coal tar? Maybe we need to start fashioning a diet that actually has enough of the vitamins and minerals we need. I am jumping off the niacin train though. Glad I didn't buy a whole new bag of the stuff. I have a huge supp graveyard. I added up all the money I've spent on supps going back thru my iherb and amazon and other purchases. It's at least $2,700. Thankfully many of them expired before I even used up half the bottle or even a quarter of the bulk bags. But lots of wasted money on wishful thinking.
I want to narrow down what actually works or is beneficial to our body, I think everyone should have epsom salts on hand. Sodium Bicarbonate is an obvious pantry staple that can also be used in case of acidosis. Ascorbic acid can dechlorinate your bathwater lol. I have like 30 dollars worth of it left. Vitamin K2 can stop excessive bleeding, very good source is cheese, thinking of going back to eating gouda. Aspirin in case of high estrogen stressful situations. Maybe niacin can function like a fungicide?! Not sure, but I won't be taking it orally. We need to get our zinc from red meat. We need a source of molybdenum: beans work very well. Wheat can be extremely rich in selenium depending on where it's grown. US grown wheat in the selenium rich soil of Wyoming. It's also a good source of betaine. Choose wheat that has not been poisoned by iron and 'vitamins', preferably organic, especially oats which are heavily sprayed with glyphosate. We get our b vitamins from our gut bacteria, so if you are low consider that you have a toxic gut. Eggs seem like a good source of everything, but hens are poisoned with carotenoids, so I'd work to do the best on the least amount of eggs. Our culture believes if something is good more is better. We need to work to correct that belief.
Everyone should have hardwood activated charcoal on hand and use regularly. Our world is very toxic these days, so is our gut.
And by far the best thing you can do for your health is to stop worrying! Easier said than done. I'm a worrwort about my health. But realizing that we were duped into thinking synthetic vitamins make us healthy will help me simplify (I think they work the same as drugs work and some drugs can really 'work' so please don't stop something that you need, take cystic fibrosis for instance.. if someone was against drugs they'd likely have died young they now have a drug that stops the overproduction of mucus, life changing for those with CF).
End rant.
