Janelle's log

@janelle525 That is a very good rant!  I bet I have spent more on "supplements" than you but I am older and have been a health nut longer.  We have reduced the amount of supplements we have been taking and aren't noticing that we are worse off.  Now after your rant, I would like to wean off of them all.

I am sure there are problems with the processing of peanut butter powder, such as PB2, but I like that stuff and it is lower fat and tastes like peanut butter.  I think all nuts are kind of indigestible because they aren't pulverized into dust so I can see how actual peanuts would cause problems.

I don't know if you have been taking molybdenum but I found that it caused estrogenic symptoms for me, so that is one experiment to file in the trash.

Yeah I've been a health nut for 15 yrs, I normally liked to get nutrients from 'real food' so I never went all out as my anxiety always prevented me from taking new things. Ascorbic acid was probably the only one I really took large amounts of. Glad you will be weaning off the supps! I think we've been duped!

I've never tried the powdered peanut butter powder, do you mix it in something? Yeah I've always had great issues digesting nuts, they are pretty indigestible!

Oh wow, so I took about 75 mcg molybdenum (preserved in liquid form so not exactly 'natural'), and that's the night I got severe tingling in my hands and feet. Which still has not gone completely away 3 days later. I also took folinic acid and a little zinc picolinate, but I noticed some nausea after the Mo and folinic acid before I took the zinc later on. I'm just done with supplements!

I mix the peanut powder with water.  To me it tastes like peanut butter.  I eat it plain but it could be used on bread for a peanut butter sandwich.

I have taken zinc but I have never noticed anything plus or minus.  And I have not taken folinic acid.  I wonder if the Mo slows bile and that is why it felt estrogenic to me and you felt some nausea.

I'm realizing more and more that I really don't know that much about health. The entire reason I think I've been obsessed with health is because I fear disease and fear suffering from disease or dying from something I could have prevented. But that isn't putting trust in God to guide me. I've been down how many roads? Too many. I've gone down so many rabbit holes that I don't know what is right anymore. So I'm just going to go back to what I think I know for now. And that is based on experience. I liked what @Luke said about experience. We only have knowledge because we experience something. How can you memorize something from a textbook and think that is knowledge? We have many doctors who claim to have knowledge this way. But they really don't. They may know how to treat something so you don't die that day, but they only have knowledge based on their experience with patients or the experience of other doctors before them. But we can't put too much stock in someone else's experience, that's what is so frustrating because what worked for one individual won't work for someone else.

I am back to having some reflux, and the feeling like food is taking too long to digest. Very frustrating. I think it's because I stopped the coffee enemas and slowly old problems came back. So my only option is to do them more regularly for now. If it's the thing that helps me to save my gallbladder then I will do them until I figure something else out. I had also stopped adding apple cider vinegar because Meri from the facebook vitamin A toxicity group said vinegar can contribute to the formation of anhydroretinol in the gut, along with the presence of alcohol which many people have if they are eating carbs. It freaked me out even though apple cider vinegar is a known cure for reflux disease and I think it was helping me. Thing is she is basing this knowledge off test tube studies. How useful is that for our complex human life? Retinol may turn into anhydroretinol in a tube when you add acid and alcohol but does that mean it's formed in our own body? It's her theory on why people paradoxically have vitamin A deficiency symptoms while being toxic in it at the same time. Anhydroretinol can't do a whole lot for us, it is toxic. So anyway, I think I'll take the chances with using about tablespoon of vinegar a day.

My sleep has also been super bad, because if I have reflux I think it causes bad breathing, it is a known cause of sleep apnea and I've been having episodes of not breathing.

I have stopped the activated charcoal, going to give myself a break as I wasn't seeing any more positives from it. If I end not being able to digest beans again, then that would be a bummer, but I'm not too attached to eating beans everyday especially since I ended up not seeing that many benefits. I'm in no better health than when I started back in January. And actually I have some things that are worse. I have numbness and tingling in my hands and feet. I am not quite sure the cause yet, I think it might be pinched nerves from a herniated disc, but I'm not positive. It could also be low b vitamins. Which the activated charcoal could absolutely cause. We shall see!

@janelle525  have you tried experimenting with betaine HCL to help with digestion?

Yes I have started taking that again as well, it helped me a lot in the past.

@janelle525 vinegar is the one thing that cures my heartburn, which is not that frequent admittedly, but it never responds to antacids or baking soda. I seem to do well on acids in general and I really love tart and acidic flavors.

I really respect Meri and her opinions but like you said a lot is theory and based on chemical reactions that may or may not take place in the body.

This is why I also quit charcoal. It seemed to have detrimental or just at the very least, no effect on my health. It just doesn't seem natural to ingest charcoal over extended periods of time.

Yeah I seem to need supplemental acids in my diet, I think I will use my urine ph as a guide. If it goes too much below 5.4 that's just way too much acid, but lately it had crept up over 6 which was kinda rare for me with my breath rate being so low. With lower breath rate 5.5-6 is optimal at least according to that kick your fat in the nuts guy.

Meri is awesome, but yes we need to take test tube studies with a grain of salt. She may be on to something with really sick people and vitamin A though. That it's turning into toxic forms.

Yeah I definitely needed a break from the charcoal. I was told that it wouldn't cause b vitamin deficiencies, but I think I may have some even with eating brown rice. I think it may have decreased the bacteria in my gut too much.

You’ve got this Janelle. Just listen to your body. You know yourself better than anyone else and what works for you. I realize it can be hard at times due to all the conflicting noise out there but trust me on this one thing-no one regardless of their degree or profession has all the answers for every situation. It’s good to a point that we stay somewhat engaged in health topics but listening to our own body is always #1 in my opinion.

I originally wrote a long word vomit reply but decided in the end to keep it simple. The Lord is and will continue to direct your steps ma’am. Sometimes we just need to step back, do what we know works for us and trust that all will work out for the best.

Thank-you!! You are such a positive person! I wish I was less critical and more positive. I guess I become critical and controlling when I'm really afraid. Controlling my health was one way I dealt with life's uncertainty. And then when it feels like nothing is working then I get freaked out. But yes I need to take a step in faith that the Lord is guiding me in this and I just need to let go. Thanks again for your kind words <3

Certainly ma’am. It’s only natural that we have to confront our fears around health issues but we don’t have to let it consume us. I’m the #1 guilty party in letting fear repeatedly overtake me due the past traumas experienced from having CFS/ME followed by multiple poisoning which were both iatrogenic and self inflicted in my ignorance. I’m learning to gradually work towards being okay with not having all the answers, forgiving myself for choosing to follow incorrect information, not being able to always 100% control my health and sitting with potential uncertainty while still integrating some level of peace in my existence anyway by weaving in and out of effort mode and relaxation. I’m pretty sure a lot of the stress I’ve put on myself related to all of this has been more harmful than helpful. It’s a delicate balancing act.
You are a smart, resourceful and inspiring woman with a full life ahead of you. You’ve overcome a lot and I’m confident you have the wear with all to achieve your goals.
