I think one big mistake I’ve made multiple times in my life has been mimicking other people’s diets (Ray, Grant, carnivores…) and ultimately failing because A. Most were male & B. No one really focused on Blood glucose, Macro ratios and micronutrients. All of those things are crucial for humans and especially women because we are not small men. They become even more critical as we age in my experience. I might be kind of odd ball in this community as I do believe nutrients from minimally processed foods matter as well as how our unique context determines our individual macronutrient needs. Anyway the energy slump is a bummer and I’m sorry to hear you’re having this right now. Hopefully it passes soon. Sorry to ramble on in your log…
You are absolutely right that we are not men! And we can't mimic someone else's diet. I'm learning the importance of all of those things as well. Especially because I want to be active. Can't really happen if I'm not feeding myself well. So I've added an egg to my breakfast of pasta. I have to stop fearing food and just see how it goes. I may react different than I did 2 yrs ago.

Thank-you! So far so good with the one egg, haven't noticed anything bad.

That's great! My liver enzymes were pretty low when I checked it after a few weeks of the VAD, I got about half the RDA of choline during that time. But I did take betaine hcl every now and then which spares choline.

Quote from Andrew B on May 24, 2024, 11:22 pmBetaine HCI may help digestion but we no longer recommend it as a good source of betaine. Recommend 200 mgs of betaine from organic wheat/spelt, quinoa or beetroot and supplements betaine anhydrous or trimethylglycine (TMG) as much better results from those sources. Betaine does spare the choline but I think betaine HCI isnt showing the better results of other betaine intake.

Yeah I eat wheat everyday, does refined wheat have good betaine as well?

Quote from Andrew B on May 25, 2024, 7:15 amSee Table 1. Refined has some betaine. My preferred source is organic wholemeal spelt, emmer or einkhorn. Betaine in Cereal Grains and Grain-Based Products - PMC (nih.gov)

Thanks! Semolina is pretty high! I tend to eat a lot of italian pasta. I've recently added in whole grain wheat crackers.
