Quote from lil chick on November 12, 2025, 1:23 pmThis thread is not a discussion of the merits of religion or JP. It's been easy to slide down that rabbit hole and I've been guilty of it myself here.
But I will give you a joke to break up the tension:
Did you hear about the dyslexic agnostic insomniac? He stayed up all night wondering if there is a dog.

There are corollaries from this that can improve what we build and do.
When we work toward the right goals, our goals come easier, last longer and are vastly better and better for us.
In other terms like nature caring what we do, nature cares in proportion and kind for how we care about what nature wants. As in going with the flow? On any and all scales?

Are you saying when we work with nature nature works with us? I'm unsure how it relates to God though. If there is no God then what does it matter if you help nature for future generations. That's why I find it odd when atheists are environmentalists, it's like... well why do you care? Then your religion is nature. Humans are wired to worship something. It's either yourself, or any number of idols. I'd much rather worship a God who promises eternal life in His presence if we follow Him. There is no other God like that. No other God who is as Holy and kind and loving and gives justice on evil.

I don't fault Jiri for being leery, his comments actually caused me to recall one little book where both sides were presented by the same man, chronicling his own tortuous path. It was Tolstoy's "A Confession".2 quotes from the book:
“I felt that what I had been standing on had collapsed and that I had nothing left under my feet. What I had lived on no longer existed, and there was nothing left.My life came to a standstill. I could breathe, eat, drink, and sleep, and I could not help doing these things; but there was no life, for there were no wishes the fulfillment of which I could consider reasonable. If I desired anything, I knew in advance that whether I satisfied my desire or not, nothing would come of it. Had a fairy come and offered to fulfil my desires I should not have known what to ask. If in moments of intoxication I felt something which, though not a wish, was a habit left by former wishes, in sober moments I knew this to be a delusion and that there was really nothing to wish for. I could not even wish to know the truth, for I guessed of what it consisted. The truth was that life is meaningless. I had as it were lived, lived, and walked, walked, till I had come to a precipice and saw clearly that there was nothing ahead of me but destruction. It was impossible to stop, impossible to go back, and impossible to close my eyes or avoid seeing that there was nothing ahead but suffering and real death--complete annihilation.”
“Faith is the strength of life. If a man lives he believes in something. If he did not believe that one must live for something, he would not live. If he does not see and recognize the illusory nature of the finite, he believes in the finite; if he understands the illusory nature of the finite, he must believe in the infinite. Without faith he cannot live.”

For most people this is true. For example Japan people have name for it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ikigai and I fully agree with this concept.
At the end of the day it is up to each individual where he finds his meaning for his life. What I really hate about religion and vegans for example HEHE LOL.
That they go around and push their ideas on others. In case of religion it is not just annoying as vegans. But it cause insane amount of suffering for literally nothing. If I really love something about this day and age is that you can do whatever you want. You can believe in whatever you want(unless you live in places like North Korea lol) and as long as you don't negatively effect other people with what you o. Nobody should tell you how you should live your life. Well maybe parents if you live in their house and they feed you hehe.
Simply just because people who decided to believe in some religion to have easier time to cope with this reality doesn't mean that everyone needs to do that.
Btw I never even needed to believe in some religion to have some moral code. I was thinking ok so how I will live this life. What ultimately matters at the end of the day. I think ultimately what matters is if you are a good person. Person who always tried to do the right thing even if it means that it doesn't benefit me or even hurt me.
Btw who you want around you. People who don't believe in god, but believe in simple fact that we should try our best to be good people who help each other during the short time we have left here or do you want around religious people who believe in some book and bend the words from that book as they need?
Do you want to left your kid with a good person or priest who would love to rape your kid? Just asking..
Anyways sorry for my comments about religion on this forum I am done with it..

That logic stems from letting dogmatics write scripts that we can argue from. Same as media and politics today. You are either with us or the terrists. You either want Gaza bombed to glass or you are an antisemite Hitler lover. Wait you think Stalin was worse than Hitler? Then you are a Hitler lover.
So wait a second. If He is in everything, and He is, and He is everything, and He is, and He is the definition of good, and He is, then what does it matter to Him if I am stupid enough to fight nature. Well for sure He, and that includes everything and that includes nature, wants me to do good. I suppose I could cut a pinky finger off because I think it makes me look tough, but um I kind of doubt that is such a natural idea. I kind of doubt that goes in the direction of flowing with nature.
I guess I take a more mathematical approach to Him than dogma based literary approach. The idea we have of Him is simple. Omniscient, omnipotent and good. Oh yeh and infinite. Hm. Maybe I ought to consider being a little humbler in my perspectives about myself. And in my requests, hopes and desires from Him.
Like George Carlin said, nature and the earth do not need saving. They do not need us. They will do just fine long after we are gone. We need nature far more than nature needs us. Now if you fall into Tavistock mind control games with dogma, sure this can be twisted and sold to hippies as worshipping nature. Drop some acid and stare at a tree for a few days. Orrrrrr we can just do math and recognize that He is in everything and that nature is everything and that so are we.
Which all reminds me. Last week I heard a politician pop a sound bite when asked how the Deity can allow such genocide. Pick your war. Pol replied years ago he wondered how He could be good and let such things happen. How could He be so deaf to the children's cries? Now he feels that He was not deaf, those children's cries were for him to hear. They were a call to the politician not to Him. They were his Maker calling him. He is in everything, including in those dying kids, and us.
