Jordan Peterson is very ill: carnivore, pharmaceuticals

PreviousPage 7 of 10Next

(please see my last post on the prior page, this is a continuation of that thought)

It's a human trait to cling to old things long past when they should have been thrown out, case in point JP's continuing trust in modern medicine and Pharma.   (another case in point:   the crap in my attic and cellar)

Of course, it's helpful to think about who benefits when things like this aren't cleared up.

The bible is the revelation of God. When man chose to go against God, humans started behaving like animals... hence the need for a people that were called out of the debauchery and the need to conquer cities where all the debauchery was taking place. The chosen people would bring forth the Messiah... and now we have an intimate connection with God if we so choose. It's your choice. Joy, love, peace, patience, kindness, these all come from God. if we only consider what had to happen to bring forth the Messiah then we are only seeing a small part of the larger picture which is an intimate relationship with the Almighty God. I choose my heavenly Father, he is the only one that will never leave me no forsake me. Everyone else will.... Jesus is the only one with the Word that leads to life.

You're doing great defending the faith.

It's important to note: Christianity is offensive to unbelievers. It doesn't make sense, is unreasonable, or illogical to the unrepentant sinner. The Bible itself talks about this.

In the end, faith is a mystery. There are countless verses that talk about how everyone is called to respond to the salvation plan, but not everyone is chosen. In the end, even the faith that a believer has is generated by God, yet a conscious choice by every sinner is required. How this goes together is beyond me. On the one hand, you have God's sovereignty, and on the other, you have human responsibility.

And Christianity has always been mocked, too, and ridiculed. Pontius Pilate was cynical. So were the Pharisees and scribes. I mean, everyone back in the day agreed Jesus was a miracle worker, yet they couldn't fathom that he actually was the Messiah.

And so you have today, too, those who find Christianity deeply repulsive, can't see the truth laid out. Invent all sorts of random arguments to belittle and assault Scripture.

Now, as Christians, we're asked to tread lightly because you never know when someone repents.

And I hope that those whose hearts are closed now will be exposed to the Gospel many more times throughout their lives, so one day their walls to their hearts crumble, and they see the truth in what is laid out for everyone to read in the Gospels.

So would you be OK with any of those passages that the 25 kids came up with, read at your funeral?   how about this one:

"Samuel said to Saul, "I am the one the LORD sent to annoit you king over his people Israel; so listen now to the message from the LORD.   This is what the LORD Almighty says:   I will punish the Amalekites for what they did to Israel when they waylaid them as they came up from Egypt.   Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all the belongs to them.   Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys"

That's cherry picking. Do you even know how evil these people were? They made child sacrifices and immoral sexual rituals to idols. Which goes back to what I stated that there had to be a chosen people that was set apart from the evil ways of the world, any integration of these evil practices into the chosen people was an abomination.  God gives and takes away life, no one else. Only by His command, after many many many many chances to repent, does he ever command complete destruction of a people. But I understand these passages seem to paint God as evil. That's not true. This people group were evil. Christianity is what saves people, not false gods, child sacrifice (abortion), sexual immorality. And again we have the USA and other western countries thanks to Jesus and His disciples. Even scientists were mainly Christians.

Thank-you. I used to debate this stuff, it's been yrs since I have tried! It's usually fruitless, but if I can present the gospel then I think it was worth it. And yes Christianity is deeply repulsive to those still in the dark. The walls do have to come down.

I really do think this convo is a waste of time (fruitless as you say).   People in general don't change their minds on stuff like this in convo's online.

But I don't think JP lost the debate because he was tired or sick.   He lost the debate because there is no justification for the readings.

false. Is it not a game of telephone. Errors have not changed the meaning of the text. If you can name one error that changed the meaning of Christianity and our history I'd be glad to read about it!

How would any of us know?

Janelle, I was yelled at by a scripture quoting Moslem during a blood drive.  He spouted your same threats to my life and my after life based on his holy book.  Five of his friends sat there quietly.  I had needles in their arms.  We had been having an excellent conversation.  They were mechanics, plumbers, lawyers, truck drivers, all around decent guys.  We talked about our experiences inside and outside of religion. My job was to keep them laughing and happy and hence awake and unafraid.  I am surprisingly skilled at keeping adrenalin low and consciousness in gear during people's scariest moments.

This young man decided my lack of his faith warranted their version of fire and brimstone.  I watched the room.  My new friends all went silent.  I and my coworkers did too.  We all made eye contact.  Have never seen so many apologies sent telepathically.  Realized, this guy was the scourge of their Islamic Center.  This guy's rant was aimed at them as much or more than me.  Either way we all failed to conform to his standards.  If no other reason they failed by treating me decently.  Once he was gone, we all returned to good will.  It was their problem not mine.

My point: if you feel my lack of espousing and or acknowledging your written Word rationalizes wrecking my life or after life, that is more than enough to know I am right to step back and keep my beliefs (no matter and expecially however excellent they are) to myself.  Just as I would never force my opinion on diet on someone else, I need no one to know my beliefs.  At least not by my word.

I have taken heat on this blog in the past for asking people their beliefs on vA and Grant's writing.  Whether or not they agree with me or Grant is none of my business or interest EXCEPT in so far and grokking why they are writing on this blog.  When someone writes something here that makes clear they have no clue what the basis of this blog is about, I want to know if I am wasting my time with them or if I missed some genius abstract idea they want to get across.  When you insist I am wrong and you are right based on what is in a book, it is convincing that it is a waste of time.

Do you think He will cast everyone in to hell who did not read the book?  Do you think He is to be blamed for the instructions to destroy every man, woman, child, animal and crop because Amelek was corrupt?  Kill a 3 month old baby because Mom and Dad are sinners?  Kill all their animals?  Are you telling me that holy books have not routinely been revised, corrupted and exploited by military leaders to rationalize landgrabs, war crimes and slavery?

@joe2

I'm sorry you were treated that way. I don't believe in preaching hellfire to people to get them to believe in God. That doesn't work in this day. I preach love. God is love. So to reject God is to reject His love for you and of course he's not going to force you to be with him for eternity, but being the God of all creation, what is absence of God? Darkness.

Also, I'd really love to know an error that's been found of the Bible that changes the meaning and our history? So far all I've ever seen are confirmation after confirmation that nothing has been changed.
