I would say from reading here that beans are magic for some here and not for others.   I'm not a person who "needs" fiber, but have quite an addiction to peanuts that I can't really explain in any other way except my body really WANTS THEM.

I had the head pressure and I agree with r about how it does go away "pretty early" on.    (unlike skin issues, for instance, which are kind of slow!  or gums!).  I think I had my last episode of really bad headache about 1 year in.    It's like a miracle because I had been making my life smaller due to intense headaches (and also vomiting episodes which also went away).    I still occasionally feel minor head pressure, like a small hangover, and I think it is when I "stir things up" because even if you've been at this a long time there will be still be VA lurking deep in your tissues and very slowly coming out.   (I'm at 3.75 years of medium-low).

In my mind slowly is how you want things to come out.   I'm fine with medium low, and I'm happy with my slow progress, but again, everyone is different.

It appears that molybdenum is a nutrient that I might run down in detox and legumes also help with that, so I wonder if that is one of the reasons legumes are popular here.

OK so you are 3.75 years in, and have had the head pressure. I have all kinds of weird head pressure,  dizzy spells, and spells where my head feels really weird and heavy, and also a really unpleasant "buzzing" sensation when I talk when this shit is really acting up (it's extremely unsettling). All of my head symptoms definitely get better on low A, and when I've tested it, they absolutely flare up horribly. Anyway, so the first year, I should be very strict on the diet... is it okay to eat sweets? And what is wrong with ham?? I can't figure out why no one's eating ham. I had some today for Christmas and I did great. Is ham bad for detox?  I think I feel pretty good on beans. I definitely need fiber lol

And one more thing, I feel foolish for asking. I know I'm not ready yet, but in the future, will I be able to drink again? It was very much a part of my partner and mine's life. Our friends... Social situations are definitely easier for me....  I hardly leave the house since this happened anyway. But I'm only 46 days in and feel a lot better just in the last week alone. Like I'm finally having some good days, and it is thanks to reducing vitamin A (no thanks to "doctors" at all).

pork is necessarily higher in retinoids than other meats, often in forms not measured for.  some pork has thiamine in it which helps detox and provides some coverage.  most of us have played with it enough to step back and recognize it is not worth the risks.  hard to justify alcohol intake on a liver already jacked up from other alcohols like retinol.  detox is all about ALDH increase and aldehyde decrease.  alcohol stops liver detoxing by intoxing. hangover is aldehydes formed by breaking down alcohols muddling up the system until removed in breath, urine and the little bit of bile that is removed from colon.

Have ya ever tried drinking water while everyone else drinks?  First couple times I did it decades ago, I felt out of sorts like everyone was watching me and distrusting me.  At some point, I realized they were too busy and too relaxed to care.  Then when I relaxed I realized I had way more fun watching others get drunk while I was sober than when I was drinking.  Then I started understanding all the dry bartenders I worked with for years.  It really is more fun to kick back and let people be.  That and darts is easier straight.  What sealed the deal was two ideas.

First was when I tried drinking again and my tolerance was shot.  Whole room of friends cut me off on third beer.  They were right. I was wrecked.  Not sure but does not hypervitaminosis A reduce liver's ability to detox alcohol?

Second was when friends realized they got designated driver built in.  Look out for the popularity rush there.  That can get abused quick.

@joe it is intereting that everywhere I look on info about milk kefir and liver it says that it improves liver function. Wonder why when it has lactic acid, acetaldehyde etc.. I am thinking about drinking some home made kefir again..

Btw can someone help me with how much vit A is in goat milk? So far most sources say something like 180-200iu per 100ml? If that is true that means I would ingest like 1000iu of retinol if I have 500ml per day. That seems ok to me if the rest of my diet is no/low vit A.. I don't know why cronometer.com which I use a lot says 566 μg per 1000ml. That would be like 22500 iu if  1μg is 40iu?? Don't get it..

If you want to be cured of your desire to drink just follow the liver dr on twitter: https://twitter.com/theliverdr

Horrifying examples of liver failure from drinking. Just because we can get away with it for a while doesn't mean it isn't doing significant damage. He says there's no safe amount of alcohol.

@fred ok I looked again how many IU is 1 mcg.  It looks like 1IU=0,3 mcg So 570mcg of vit A per 1000ml of goat milk is 1900iu.. Yeah I think I will keep drinking 500ml of kefir and will see if it kicks me back into vit A toxicity after some time. But for now I hope that it will fix my sensitive/transparent teeth, soft nails etc.. Eating just starches, meats seems very unbalanced to me in terms of minerals...

@jessica2 They say you need much less if your vit A is low. I don't know if it's true or not. I also don't think that every male needs 1300mg every single day like mainstream is saying, but if my calcium intake is like 300mg(from sources that have oxalates as well like you said) and I have symptoms of deficiency obviously that means I should increase that intake.. Not to mention if that dairy produt taste good to you. I think there is something to it.. So far goat or sheep cheese, yogurt or kefir seems ok. I think regular cows milk products are not good. So I can buy only expensive goat, sheep products which means I can't eat a lot of it daily even if I want.. Something like 50g of hard cheese is plenty to get good amount of bioavailable calcium and the amount of retinol is not that high if the rest of my diet is still low vit A...

Hi @jiri,

Why not use a calcium supplement such as "Now Calcium Carbonate Pure Powder"?

@fred supplements doesn't work for me. Don't have strong stomach acid for carbonate and calcium citrate just makes me constipated.. + I want to use zero supplements. So long term I would love to just eat some dairy.. It is not only about calcium.. Something like goat/sheep dairy has also good protein, fats, K2, B vitamins and many trace minerals and in case of home made kefir it is epic probiotic..

I made kefir for a long time, years.   I even once gave a little talk about it!   The word kefir supposedly means "feel good" in a language of the Caucasus.   No one knows where the first kefir grains came from, they say is was a gift from heaven.   You can eat the grains.  I used to!   I drank loads of it for years and then suddenly I didn't want it any more at all...   I do think it helped me though, my lower GI is my system that works best out of all my systems.

Now, for some reason, I like yogurt better.   My guess would be that yogurt has less amines and that is why I prefer it?   Even yogurt has it's limits with me.   But  the fermentation is so much shorter and more highly controlled and so I'm guessing it is lower amine.   Yogurt cured my baby's gut whose stomach had been destroyed by antibiotic over-usage.   It is a bit more complicated to make as the first step is a gentle pasteurization.     Unpasteurized yogurt is more of a drink, and has never stuck with me.

For non-dairy people, I've read loads of good comments about the benefits of coconut kefir.

@lil-chick yeah I need to make sure that I don't drink too much. I think like 2x250ml per day will be plenty and also I need to look at how much it ferments. I used to use A LOT of kefir grains for the amount of milk I was making and also I would ferment 24 hours with the grains and 24 hours without the grains so it was like really strong with good amount of alcohol which was probably bad for my liver.. Now I just ferment it to the point where there is no lactose and that's it.. So maybe max 2 tbsp of grains per 500ml and ferment it maybe 16 hours.. I like yogurt as well but I don't want to make it and buying goat yogurt is crazy expensive.. Goat milk I can afford...

There is a video of ma favorite workout guy from my country and that is exactly how the kefir I was making looked like. 🙂
