NAD deficiency - is this a major issue for vA toxicity/detox?

@jaj  Thanks for your reply.  I hope you get back online soon.  Being without the internet is a real pain.

I took ~10mg nicotinic acid the last two days in the morning, both nights had the best sleep, getting two nights together of good sleep is very rare for me!   Will continue with 10mg each morning.

@jiri @rachel I also started taking bigger amounts of B5 to dry up my skin, B5 is a big factor in the citric acid cycle.  I supp'd succinic acid, and also malic acid in the past, hoping it would help like B5, but did not see any pros.   Read that most of us are deficient in B5 as well, just like all the other Bs! @jaj

That’s really great, @orion! 😁 Has it continued?

Hey @puddleduck nice to see you posting!

B3 nicotinic acid is very stimulating even at low doses for me.  After 3 days seems to make me wake after 1hr of sleep, so backed off for couple days.  Will test with 10mg every other day, and see what happens.  I do think I benefit from it though, as it would help dump VA.

Thanks for the welcome @orion. 🙂 I’m glad you guys are still experimenting and making progress through the mire of detox.

Man, that’s so interesting. Insomnia always seems to be your barometer for dumping VA, eh? Difficult to deal with physically, but clear as mud! Fingers crossed there’s a helpful dose for ya. 🤞

We took 10 mg nicotinic acid today after a good week without. No flush whatsoever, and extremely good mood, jokes and laughter all the afternoon. AND luck! My horrible neighbor has moved out! AND I found someone ready to sell me a spare part I was looking for for 10 years! This is not normal.

Nicotinic acid does something to my brain that makes life easier. We shall resist and not take any tomorrow, to try taking it every other day. How are you doing @orion ?

@ourania lol I had a horrible neighbor moved out recently too, only there renting for 6months, but what a mess... so much quieter now!

I take 10mg every other day, seems best that way for now and does not ruin my sleep.

@ourania The connections that you're drawing between your mental well-being and specific substances you take are amazing (you've mentioned thiamine too). I love your stories. I wish I had better access to the invisible realm. Maybe it's a matter of having enough vA depleted? Anyway, please keep up posted with your insights and observations.

@christian Thank you for your kind words! Of course the access to the invisible realm is linked to vA depletion. However it is invisible only because our senses are dulled by all that goo. There is no such thing as an invisible realm, only our own paralysis. And I think there is a Time factor at play too. The world is very different if we can remember or project ourselves in the future we want to create.

We did not sleep very well last night after our 10 mg dose, but this morning I could take a financial decision I had overlooked for too long. Money easily made that had been lost in the brain fog. I am in a good mood.

But my vision is more blurry than usual.  🙁

10 mg every other day is too much for us. Will take the next dose after two days of rest, that is once every three days. The detox follows different routes from what I normally feel, new places being cleansed maybe?

- scalp on top of the head (my hair hurts)

- inside of my right leg all along to big toe

- diaphragm

I started a reply and I’ve lost it! I’ve been quiet on here as I’ve not been feeling well. My post covid POTS symptoms got worse. Also we’ve had no internet and using my iPhone was making me feel worse.

I’m feeling better now and have made some further connections on this NAD deficiency theory. The long covid/NAD deficiency paper preprint  focused me on the kynurenine pathway (the tryptophan to NAD de novo pathway) and it’s self perpetuating inflammatory nature. That is, once it gets going it creates metabolites that create inflammatory cytokines that keep it going (IDO is upregulated by cytokines). Therefore my focus shifted to cytokines.

Another thing I’d noticed post covid was a worsening of my sulphur intolerance. I think this is behind my issues with conjunctivitis or it could be quinolinic acid?? Anyway I’ve got back my annoying hot sweats etc and can’t eat sulphur foods without symptoms (some of which maybe due to mercury being moved around). Then I re read one of my favourite papers by Margaret Moss and remembered that CDO (converts cysteine to taurine and sulphate) is inhibited by inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-alpha. Bingo. An explanation for both upregulated kynurenine pathway and down regulated sulphur pathway. Made sense to me (doesn’t mean it’s correct!).

Therefore I’ve gone back to my traditional NT notes. What is an anti inflammatory diet and lifestyle? Crisps have gone 🤣 Fatty fish is back.  I think PUFA balance is important here. My B6 and zinc deficiency due to pyroluria will be an issue here too as the rate limiting enzyme (delta 6 desaturase) requires these. It’s all fitting together.

The kynurenine pathway is slowed by niacin and requires B2, B6 and magnesium to run smoothly. B1 is known to help dysautonomia (POTS). Thank you very much @puddleduck for sharing the supplements that help your POTS on your thread. I’ve added all the above  in small amounts. I’ve cut out all seed oils (many of you have already done this but I was partial to some crisps and houmous!!). My POTS type symptoms have gone.

B12 is helping cure long covid in many people. Angelica Thornhill on Garrett Smith’s network is an expert in this. Covid seems to induce B12 deficiency (vA depletes B12). B12 deficiency is associated with raised inflammatory cytokines. Not saying this is all it does. It also lowers homocysteine which is a trigger for NOX and the NADPH steal and probably does lots of other stuff too as it addresses the deficiency state but I thought the cytokines link was interesting.

That’s my current focus. Cytokines. This is a deep rabbit hole I’m sure. If the vA detox triggers the kynurenine pathway it may be a valuable area for many of us to consider. Long covid research is becoming a rich area for ideas for me. Covid seems to involve a massive vA dump so it could be a model for a fast detox (making me even surer that’s for  some of us a slow detox is preferable).  I’m really fed up that I’ve gone backwards but I have learnt a heck of a lot.
