NEED HELP! Accutane, MGD, low VitA diet / detox
Quote from Andrew B on December 1, 2022, 4:43 amYes you might have egg intolerance or problems with sulphur or excessive leakiness increased with strong detox. Beef hearts are good for choline. That might help.

Quote from Marsh Marsh on December 1, 2022, 4:53 amThank you. I have been concerned about the lack of choline and biotin in my diet so i'll get more heart. I do occasionaly eat lamb heart but I'll try to get it more often.
I don't think it's an egg intolerance. Eggs used to be my favourite food and i've eaten them all my life pre accutane without any issues.
The common denominator in all the foods that give me trouble is retinol.

Quote from Andrew B on December 1, 2022, 4:58 am@lee I think you're inadvertently thumbing down my comments 🙂
I prefer lamb's hearts for taste but they dont have as much choline. Eggs are very high in choline. I wouldnt worry about the level of Vit A (6% of RDA) in eggs but it obviously is something affecting you. Choline is much more helpful and does tend to improve the detox but also increases it.

Interesting. So i'm not sure what the situation is with eggs. It seems unlikely I would develop an intolerance to eggs unrelated to my issues with retinol after Accutane. I don't know what happened but I would certainly love to eat eggs again one day.
Maybe it's an intestinal permeability situation after Accutane.
I'll try to get beef heart then thanks

Quote from Andrew B on December 1, 2022, 5:51 amYes, it's intestinal permeability. The headaches and fatigue would indicate too much leakiness and too strong a detox. I'd urge people to fix the leakiness first before stimulating the detox with high zinc foods. It's possibly not the eggs but the high fat and high zinc at same time giving the headaches. The eggs improved my detox but when I added in high fat mince I got heartburn as a sign of too much bile and detox. The high fat stimulates more bile but maybe worth reducing in the short term to relieve any symptoms of strong detox. Eggs dont give me headaches whereas beans, oats, potatoes, cauliflower, high zinc and fat had that potential before I reduced the leakiness. Fish eggs are another good choline source if that fits with your diet. It took me 7 months to slow the detox and improve choline so it's not a short term fix after 3 years of doing this and realising my mistake.
PS some people do develop sulphur intolerances when doing the detox.

And more that happened to me, several times, which is most probably why @jiri was so abrupt, he who is a very brave and generous soul.
Be well and don't forget to give results eventually!
Thank you for that. And Ill certainly share when Ill be ready to do. Now im searching a lot about all this new thing.

I just get a little confused about the egg: I already eat it daily and after reading about the low Vitamin A diet I was thinking of take the eggs off because its look to be a food with good Vitamin A levels. Is there a limit of tolerable Vitamin A in the diet ? Egg is ok?
@act If you read my other reports you'll see I did 1-2 eggs a day throughout the detox. I believe it made things easier for me. Less reactions to foods and no pain from severe leakiness or detox. The benefits of eggs like choline, sphingomyelin, other phospholipids, selenium, folate, B5 and good protein far outweigh the small amount of Vitamin A (about 6% of RDA) and lutein in them. My friends on eggs are doing well whether starting out or after a long time on the original approach. Things have improved much more for me on 3-4 eggs a day in the last 7 months. Choline (and betaine in quinoa or organic spelt/wheat) is what helps the liver recover the best.
So many important notes here. I'll see your other reports to see how was ur evolution too. I really have a lot to learn. Thank you for that.
I had the same symptoms as you with my eyes. Meibomian gland dysfunction and also lots of new floaters. The main things that bothered me were extreme fatigue and headaches. I also was constantly getting a think green post nasal drip. These things all come back again quickly if I consume liver, kidney or eggs or drink alcohol. For what it's worth the exacerbation I get personally is very strong from animal sources of retinol and not really noticeable at all from plant Vitamin A or Beta Carotene. Perhaps I am not a great converter.
Also for what it's worth and I been eating pretty much high fat carnivore. The PKD (Paleolithic Ketogenic Diet) minus the organ meats. This has worked very well for me. All symptoms are much improved but this diet makes you a social leper haha
What is most unusual for me is that I really do not experience any other symptoms of vitamin A intoxication other than the dysfunction of the meibomian glands that comes from Accutane and retinoic acid. I have always been extremely active, always do high intensity physical activity, high protein diet and good fat, etc. The eyes are the ONLY thing that bothers me. But in fact, in the last time I started to eat a lot of vitamin A looking for a healthier diet (green juice and salads), which I am reversing.

Quote from Act on December 1, 2022, 4:09 pm@ourania @andrew-b when i was writing the last comment, i was thinking... since that i dont feel NO OTHER symptoms of vitamin A intoxication other than meibomian gland dysfunction (which came from Accutane and retinoic acid use). So, is it still possible that I am intoxicated? I mean, my tests, including my liver, are always perfect. Are there any tests or anything like that where I can investigate this further?
I'm still studying this, but I think: all the people who have had this exposure to Accutane and retinoic acid like me are NECESSARILY intoxicated or the gland dysfunction is an autonomous problem that came from Accutane (but not necessarily because Im intoxicated)? Please, tell me if I didn't make myself clear... I know my english is not the best.
