New interview with Dr. Garrett Smith
Quote from Jiří on July 7, 2020, 9:02 am@orion the guy in the video I posted talks about how when you have B1 deficiency the body will down regulates everything that is using B1. So even if you take crazy high amounts the body can't use it. So it make sense to increase doses gradually as the body will up regulate all those enzymes etc.. So from deficiency to taking 1000-1500mg is useless.. I will start with 300mg and ever couple of weeks increase another 300mg.. He also said that it can take 4-5 months or even full year to up regulate everything with high doses..

Yep 1yr dosing seems to be the consensus @jiri

Quote from Jiří on July 7, 2020, 10:37 am@orion So I did 20 min research and benfothiamin looks much better than hydrochloride. So I ordered Doctors Best 300mg in capsule.. It has 60 capsules so I will take 2 a day for 30 days.. If I see some results I will order more..
@matrixik thanks to you. I didn't know that taking even 100 mg of thiamine hydrochloride is almost useless due to really low bioavailability.. When I look at all kinds of B1 def. symptoms. I think I am really low in B1..

Quote from Orion on July 7, 2020, 10:45 am@jiri yes I think HCl is to weak for us in a compromised health state.
I had to slowly work my Alli B1 dose up over months, the fat soluble B1 is very powerful stuff, I would get huge stress responses, as it starts to get your body using energy. It screwed up my sleep and would make me very jittery, but right after you take it, it gives a nice warm normal thyroid feeling. I can now take 50mg every other day and sleep improves along with energy levels. Goal is to get to 50mg daily and use it for a year along with the continuing low VA lifestyle. Just be careful with large starting doses.

Quote from Jiří on July 7, 2020, 11:05 am@orion Yeah it looks like that alli goes to the cells directly. So it is much stronger. With benfo it looks like it works like hydrochlorid, but much more will be absorbed and it should stay in the system longer..

I'm taking now riboflavin based on your comments on this forum, started with normal version and after not felling any change from it moved to R-5-P version. After 2 months I can say it does nothing for me so after I end the bottle I will not return to it. Allithiamine on the other hand gave me good and fast results (like in 1-2 weeks I started to feel better).
Quote from Jiří on July 7, 2020, 7:30 amHm But I don't in your post anything about benfothiamin. They are both fat soluble. That's why I asked what is the difference. Here in CZ I can buy only benfothiamin version..
Yea, in Poland I also could not find it so ordered from iherb.com. I started with benfotiamine, felt a little better but only on allithiamine I felt big difference.

Hmm, so maybe 200g of dry beans that I eat now daily could be a problem, but before low vitA I rarely ate foods containing high amounts of pectin (maybe more apples and tomatoes, mostly in the season).
Or maybe there could something similar like MTHFR mutations but for food sources of thiamine?

Benfotiamine 80mg 2 times a day for 2 months. Now I take allithiamine 50mg 2 times a day (from beginning of the year). I could start with high amounts without problems.
