Not being able to fall back asleep

Finish saunas are the way to go for me, it really activates parasympathetic activity. Usually, I sleep like a log afterwards. Exhausted and tired, but really happy and present in my body. I wish I could feel this way 24. 🙂

For me in infra red sauna as the body gets comfortably warm it activates para system for sure. I will get sleepy a lot, but once I start sweating and heart rate increases it's stress reaction like when you do cold water.. Near infrared is different than steam saunas, because your body gets hotter and hotter, but around you it's maybe just 40 degrees..

Looking at the survey seems the one big issue that doesn't resolve quickly or get much better is sleep.  Mine is still so random, some nights wake up twice, some there is no deep sleep and many wakeups.  But this holds true, I never get two good night in a row!

Do you have some sleep routine? Like going to bed at the same time. Wake up at the same time. Last food and drink at least 2 hours before sleep. 2 hours before sleep no more stimulating activities etc..? Btw hours before midnight are the most important. That's why it's ideal to be in bed before 10pm.. Also lower temperature is need for good sleep. That's why I can't sleep during summer heat.. It's just horrible here...

Hey @jiri

My sleep routine is decent, prob not the best... aim for the same time every night 10ish, cool house, last food usually 4hrs before, up for 7 or 8am.   I am rested in mornings, and sleep is better now then before low VA.   Just can't get those long stretches of deep sleep of yesteryear!

@orion and what you do in the morning? Are you eating a lot of carbs that spike insulin and are you moving your body? If I go to work it's best. Because it's stress for the body because I have to move my body, but if I am home for example I have to keep that stress level somewhat high but not increasing insulin and by not just sitting all the time. So I do maybe some cold exposure/exercise and I don't sit. I have this homemade standing desk for my PC.. It's huge difference in sleep quality for me if I sit down all day or I stress my body by being active/uncomfortable..

@jiri Thanks for responding, most mornings are a run first thing or small breakfast then weights/gym.  I do eat carbs, but I don't think it is a excessive amount.  Last night I slept great, only difference was less potassium yesterday, going to explore keeping potassium down for a few days and see what happens.

@orion yeah potassium can stimulate the body. Don't eat high potassium foods for dinner like potatoes..

Hi I am new here and reading so many posts. Just stumbled on Vit A toxicity this week. Previously and recently, for 2 weeks I  tried hi fat carnivore. One meal, a liver, heart beef sausage ( home made by worried Hubby for my anemia) and a small steak with its fat had me nauseated and unable to eat for 24 hours.

I recently bought beef tallow for frying, as I believe it has no A. But now, since this 2 weeks of high fat and meat diet, I get nauseated with fat. Cannot finish 3 eggs I just cooked. I have a tough time digesting fat at he best of times and could happily  be a vegan if it had not caused health problems. Any idea for how to get eggs down would be greatly appreciated.

@michelle2

I went low Vitamin A and carnivore at pretty much the same time and experienced nausea here and there for the first week or two.  I ate mostly lean meat during that time and gradually increased the fat as my nausea diminished.  Prior to removing Vitamin A I had zero problems with fat.

If you tolerate carbs, you could try eating mostly lean meat and smaller amounts of carbs like white rice for a short period and then see if you tolerate fat better after a week or two.  However, I personally seemed to continue to have episodic problems with higher fat consumption throughout my Vitamin A elimination diet.  Only after 2.5 years do I now seem to be able to eat it pretty consistently without getting obvious bowel issues or some other symptoms.  Most of what I ate during that time was beef, lamb, and some other meat, additional tallow, and I went on and off white rice depending on whether I seemed to be having trouble with fat consumption.

Interesting. Thanks for the reply. I am a little hung up on the Blood Type diet, from 20 years ago. It taught that blood type A ppl lacked enough intestinal alkaline phosphatase to absorb much fat. And also that blood type A ppl had low stomach acid and meat was difficult to digest. Both seem correct for me and I have eaten a lot of plants and tofu. This also said that B and O could easily digest fat and meat. My husband is drawn to meat and fat, his first choice. And I have an aversion to it. I am trying to see if I can even do this protocol. I would sure like to....

Well.. I am blood type A too and I love meat and fat... I am not sure the blood type thing is real... I remember I bought that book many many years ago but I lost interest in it pretty fast as it did not correlate with me at all.

@michelle2 The key to the whole thing is improving choline and betaine levels. Eating 1 or 2 eggs a day at first. The betaine from wheat or spelt, quinoa or beetroot. Always small amounts at first. Pancakes my preferred option in summer. Apple sponges or fishcakes in winter. Beef tallow is good for choline also. Too much fat will cause too much bile production. Lower fat meats would be preferable. Fish or eggs can provide the taurine.
