Ourania's log

PreviousPage 13 of 14Next

Hi Ourania, I hope you can find your way back here now and then because you are a fascinating case and a good writer.

Just for all of those out there who might not know what LLLT therapy is:   "Low-level laser therapy, cold laser therapy, photobiomodulation or red light therapy is a form of medicine that applies low-level lasers or light-emitting diodes to the surface of the body."   I'm a little bit scared of such things, as I am of most new ideas now!   But I think my daughter has been trying such things so maybe I can borrow her setup.

I wonder if this is similar to getting sunlight, somehow.   People have spoken about the light of the sun denaturing VA.

Thanks for your log! I read through the whole thing a while back, your story is full of ups and downs but you came out the other side better off for having gone through it. Thanks so much for sharing all of it with us.

@itsme I had huge issues with sunlight too.   They are less, but not gone.

I just heard from a video by Garrett that red light speeds up ALDH. This would explain part of the benefits. He did not give more details.

Which laser helmet do you use? As I've read, the number of diodes is important to stop or maybe even reverse hair loss.

I have red light set up. I use my massage table to lie under it. Three bulbs from the top, two from the side. They're from Philps. Each is 150 watts. After an hour I'm relaxed but tired. So much for accelerating ALDH.

Yes,those laser lights are made to imitate the (infra)red light from the sun. However, the sun consists of many more ligthspectrums (and who knows what else), so I think such devices could never fully provide all the benefits of sunlight.

I've read about sun denaturing VA as well. It's actually what brought me to VA poisoning, bc for a couple of years now I became very sensitive to the sun. Not skin-wise as mostly is the case with sun allergy, but physical function. No doctor could ever give me an explanation for it. Either they'd brush over it or say: ' huh....weird" and leave it at that.I had to wear hats with even the slightest amount of sun,bc I noticed symptoms got worse even faster when the sun would shine on my forehead. Until last year where it literally felt as if the sun was trying to destroy me with even the smallest sunray. This year I haven't seen any sun as I'm a prisoner of my  own appartement. (Ironically during the Covid lockdown years many people suffered from this whereas I still felt 'free' to do/go as I always did...so I guess this is my lockdown payback🤷).

Suggest you get on Garrett's livestream on Tuesday 9/24.  Ask about it either directly to Garrett on a superchat or to everyone on the live chat.  Just like what Grant went through, we have a large group who have gone through similar.  Every one is different and will need to make their own way.  We all have similarities though.  I had similar in 1996 when I thought I was fine.  I started eating dairy and wheat again in a big meal with chicken and pizza.  Plenty of tomato.  Within half hour of leaving the restaurant I was sunburning on the drive home in a car with windows up, AC blasting, long sleeves and a hat.  The sun was not hitting my skin.  Took some time before I could leave the house.

Will be curious to see what it takes to get you out of that problem.  Hope you figure it out soon and let us know.

BTW, if you dare drop the $100 for an LYL subscription, the conversation with a group of 100 or so of us might be intriguing.

Good luck.

Red light and UVB are excellent.  The sun is best.  Meanwhile Sperti and Kala lights help in the dark months.  Kind of price though.  Will Nevil has a home made version for UVB that is cheaper.  I think he has a thread on twitter about it under @will_of_europa or you can catch him on LYL conversations.

@christian We had good results for our hair with the helmet. Started on 1st December 2023. We grew a lot of our lost hair back, I would say from one quarter to one third. It is slightly more on my head than on my husband's but it is difficult to judge because he cuts his hair short. I have long hair in a plait and there are LOTS of hair too short to get into my plait, it is like a crown of extra hair all around my head, growing like rays of a sun. And my plait is thicker.

I had tried different helmets which were not useful and which I returned, and eventually opted for a last try because a hairdresser recommended it. This time it was very helpful. This helmet is sold in France and I suspect made in Korea rather than China. It has a lot of diodes, some LED, some laser. 200 LEDs and 82 laser lights in this model. This is the more potent one, they have another one with less lights which is cheaper.

Maybe they have the same one in your country under a different brand? You could try looking with Google images.

I regret that I had not known about it earlier, it was not fun losing our hair. Now i am sure it will not happen again.

Red light is only a part of sunlight. UV light which is in sunlight is quite harmful. Under UV light everything is sterilized for example. UV light destroys thiamine. So the sunlight is not better than red light. It has many effects, some of which are harmfful. And the effects of sunlight are completely different from time to time, of the day, of the year, and from the place you live. I could not stand the sun in the Mediterranean, and the sun in Malaysia was fine.

There is an excellent book  in English for the general public summarizing the effects of red light

"The Ultimate Guide to Red Light Therapy" by Ari Whitten

I think I might link that post to the male pattern baldness thread!

So do you sunbathe, Ourania?
