PUFA, what are your thoughts?

I did one year extreme low PUFA RP diet, but it was full on VA.  The RP diet is perfect to overload on VA, tons of dairy, liver, fruit, OJ.   Skin just continued to worsen for me as well.

It's funny how almost everyone on Ray Peat forum suffers from skin problems and the common solution they offer is to use more preformed vitamin A. Plus they reason that 200,000 units of preformed vitamin A is good and safe amount to take daily for skin problems.

So let's think for a moment, to get healthy skin would you eat a couple of nuts or 200,000 iu of preformed vitamin A? Are you stupid!!! I would take the vitamin A of course, who would be so stupid to eat a couple of nuts, JEEEEESUS!

@samuli  I hear you, I did the high dose retinyl palmitate, CLO, etc, in attempts to heal skin.  I know that the low VA crowd is just considered another othorexic cult, but it does really seem to be helping me in every way.  But after this, if dropping my VA levels heals me up, I am never reading another health blog in my life, it has consumed the last 10yrs of my life.  Hate that I have to research and know all this stuff about food...

I still try to avoid PUFA but we use olive oil on the rice and black beans.  I was using butter but I felt like I was getting increased symptoms so we are back to the olive oil.  I have noticed that I have no dry skin since starting the low a diet.  I used to use a lot of lotion on my legs, arms and hands and even last winter I needed only a little and not every day.

Orion, I agree with you about never falling for another diet.  I have been at this since I was in eighth grade and I can’t believe how avoiding vitamin A can solve so many problems.

@eio Olive oil or avocados are ok. They are mostly monounsaturated fat.. I use coconut oil for cooking like when I do some pancakes or something and good quality olive oil to my cooked food..

Orion said, "another orthorexic cult" and it made me LOL!  (is there an emoticon for bittersweet?)

Orion didn't say orthorexic cult he said "othorexic cult" which is a more binding type of orthorexic cult, one swears a blood "oath" to the diet cult to defend it no matter how illogical it is 😉

Okay, I have to stop eating nuts. My face was 100% clear just week ago and now I have about 10 pimples on my face and two of them are really red and painful, the redness covers about one inch area. I seem to be one of those people who gets acne from all oily/fatty foods, so my body actually answered my question, "PUFA, what are your thoughts?". My body answers - "HELL NAAAAAAAAW!".

Oath-o-rexic cult...

I feel like I've gone back to the food of the 1960-1970's.  That I've returned to what I grew up on.

Back then, no one would have batted an eye at the low VA diet.   No one ordered salads!  I remember when broccoli was a new food.  Meat and carb, carb and meat.

Dry toast, black coffee, fried chicken

Did they not even eat iceberg lettuce much? I really enjoy some lettuce and pickled gherkins with a meal especially if the meal is a bit greasy. I guess coke is a fair alternative to washing down greasy chicken lol

Was pizza very common back then? Cheese is really the main high VA food used in "junk food".

Thinking back to school years all I remember seeing the football team captain, the healthiest, strongest, coolest guy in my year eating were meat pies and coke which were purchased from the school cafeteria. I saw him many years later and he looked younger than his age. Most kids brought their lunch to school, cafeteria food was considered too unhealthy or expensive by most parents.
