Rachel-2 my vitamin D
Quote from Jiří on October 20, 2020, 5:07 am@tim-2 Maybe K2 didn't help my transparent teeth etc.. because I was super vit A toxic and vit D deficient... I would like to know what type is better mk4 which is sold only in synthetic form or mk7 from natto... I liked eating natto, but all that phytoestrogen probably isn't ideal...

Quote from lil chick on October 20, 2020, 5:37 amOnce, a long time ago, a woman on a list said to me that she intuits that the WAPF's ideas are wrong because: "it shouldn't be that hard to get fed." As an avid WAPFer of that time, my head exploded. Gosh I wish I listened to her. Today I seem to be thinking a lot about "shooting from the hip" and how bad it can be.
It took me a long time, but (obviously, because I'm here) I've realized she was correct. As I've said, (shrugs, I know I repeat myself) IMO supps can be dangerous (even food can be dangerous, as we have seen). Medicines, herbs and supps are all dual edged swords. Of course, today I'm using a medicine and very glad for it (on my nose infection). Wow what a difference . So I'm not saying never use these things. I'm just saying that you could run into problems.
Now, some vities you can get rid of. But the fat soluble ones seem especially scary to me. I'm quite sure you can be VD toxic, VK toxic or VE toxic.
It might be a good idea not to run such a strict VA protocol that you could be missing something important. For instance, as we were speaking about, fats are probably very important, even though they may come along with some VA.

I think MK4 is better than MK7 when it is in food. I think MK7 is better in supplemental form, as far as I know it's non-synthetic.
I think once we are vA depleted that our vD and K2 needs will drop a lot, I will probably supplement with K2 until then.
FWIW my intuition tells me that supplemental K2 is one of the most helpful supplements to take, I get good vibes from it lol...

Quote from Jiří on October 20, 2020, 5:48 am@tim-2 I think in Japan they will prescribe very high doses like 30-40mg of synthetic mk4 (like you can get from Thorne drops) for example for osteoporosis.. Not mk7 from natto..

All the years I was following WAPF I didn't listen to my body or intuition. The doctrine in the WAPF writings over ruled it. I'm very happy on my current diet, it's close to how I'd chose to eat if I knew nothing about nutrition. Nobody's body likes CLO, everybody forces it down.
@jiri
Yeah MK4 is our body's preferred form but I think MK7 can be converted to it? I just avoid any synthetic vitamin (less concerned about synthetic water soluble ones), there are always negative effects due to different isomers and enantiomers. Some people are also taking megadoses of K2 to change their skull shape and to remodel bone.

Comparison of menaquinone-4 and menaquinone-7 bioavailability in healthy women
Discussion
The current study shows that MK-4 has a poor bioavailability at a nutritional level dose, whereas MK-7 is well absorbed and detectable in the blood at nutritional levels. In a study from the Netherlands, they compared the absorption of 900 μg of vitamin K1, MK-4, and MK-9. MK-4 showed a short serum half-life and small area under the curve compared to vitamin K1, whereas MK-9 displayed a long serum half-life compared to vitamin K1 or MK-4 [14]. Takeuchi et al.[15] reported a dose finding study of MK-4 to increase osteocalcin carboxylation in healthy subjects. In their study, supplementation of 500 μg MK-4/day for 2 months showed no effects on carboxylation of osteocalcin, whereas a dose of 1500 μg MK-4/day was required to improve carboxylation of osteocalcin. From these and our data we can conclude that MK-4 intake of greater than 420–500 μg is required.Consecutive MK-4 supplementation did not increase plasma MK-4 levels whereas MK-7 supplementation significantly increased plasma MK-7 levels in healthy female subjects. This is in-line with previous published works, which indicated nutritional doses of MK-7 (45–90 μg/day) to be effective for carboxylation of osteocalcin [16,17].
Because all vitamin K homologues can be converted to MK-4 in vivo, MK-4 is considered to have specific functions other than γ-carboxylation of vitamin K-dependent proteins [9-11]. However, in a previous rat study from our group [18], the intake of a nutritional dose of MK-4 did not increase the MK-4 levels in extrahepatic tissues, whereas MK-7 significantly increased MK-4 in extrahepatic tissues. Thus, MK-7 is a better supplier for MK-4 in vivo than MK-4 itself.
In this study, we demonstrated that a nutritional dose of MK-7 is well absorbed in human, and significantly increases serum MK-7 levels, whereas MK-4 had no effect on serum MK-4 levels. Therefore, the nutritional values of vitamin K2 homologues should be differentiated with regard to bioavailability and efficacy.

I know that. Some people say mk4 is not in the blood because it is absorbed fast to the tissues and vise versa that MK7 just sits in the blood.. SO who knows..

I was just reading about claims that K2 increases testosterone and reduces estrogen, there's a list of things that K2 and vD do that are the opposite of what excess vA does, not surprising.
