Rapid Gum Recession

@alastair which vitamins do you find most depleted while detoxing vA? Thanks for more evidence on the importance of zinc.

I had the opposite thing happen to me, I was vegan for a year, and sick all the time. When I was quitting I took a zinc test and B12. B12 was low, but zinc was normal. And that's bc you can only accurately test for zinc by doing a cell test. They scrape the inside of your mouth with a tool, they break open a cell and measure the zinc inside the cell. Blood test aren't 100 percent accurate; for most things blood tests are accurate, but zinc is hard to get a good measurement of in the body.

It seems to me that you can't use zinc because of hypothyroidism, or because of iron toxicity, or you have malabsorption. It's crazy amounts of zinc.

@daniil thanks for the suggestions, but I am convinced my need for zinc is still due to the vit A detox. I am passing yellow through my bowel as much as I ever have been on this journey, especially after drinking alcohol. It is a large amount of zinc, and I wouldn't recommend anyone take that amount without testing. It's not my intention to take it long term, only as long my HTMA shows I need it. Hopefully with ongoing vit A detox my requirements for zinc will come down.

Interesting. Perhaps you should think about the fact that you may have (zink) malabsorption. I don't think that the processes of VA detox consume so much zinc

@daniil Have you ever tested your zinc levels to back up the statement you have made above?

Yes, I checked my level after six months of a vegan diet, and it was closer to the upper limit of the norm. User @dino somewhere here created a thread about zinc toxicity, there is interesting information for you.

Interestingly, after limiting copper in the diet, cerruloplasmin increases in people. Perhaps the same thing happens with zinc on the diet of predators. Zinc poisoning reduces zinc markers.

sometimes it's better to stop everything ( supplementing etc ) . White Rice and beef for a month ( with zinc 50mg once a week ) might solve the issue . Stop everything else for now

@r-2

I was attempting something like that, but the problem is that I also have bowel motility issues.  Seems likely to be related to my vagus nerve, and since the motility issues primarily happened after I reintroduced white rice, I thought I would try adding a thiamine supplement back in (Elliot Overton has written about a connection between thiamine, the vagus nerve, and motility problems).  However, thiamine seemed to worsen my gum problems (especially TTFD), and didn't completely resolve the motility problems.  But now that I figured out supplementing zinc helps my gums out, I'm back to toying with thiamine.

I also now suspect that I am deficient in copper and/or ceruloplasmin, and supplementing with a zinc-copper combo seems to be even better than just zinc alone.  It sounds like dry skin can be associated with copper deficiency, and I certainly have some other symptoms that could be from copper deficiency (thread veins, low energy, dysbiosis).  And being on a muscle meat-centered diet for over a year seems like it might cause a zinc:copper imbalance or uptake problem.

I hate taking supplements and wish I could have a steady supply of heart meat for copper and eat more fat instead of rice to help my thiamine levels...

I also have this problem with rice. When I add it, I get constipated. And my stool becomes a different shape. The same with potatoes. Do you eat organic rice? If you find a solution to the problem, please let me know)

I didn't do the zero or low vitamin A diet but i already have some gum recession.
