But here it is, me - a delicate flower shaken by the elements! 😶‍🌫️

Beautiful 🙂

I cannot tell you how many times I think about going back to the carnivore- especially when someone posts a video of a success story. But my carnivore days were a disaster and memory of it still lingers.
Since studying Karen Hurd and her rationale behind the soluble fibre in beans and it’s detoxifying and bile flow enhancing properties, I do not look forward to constipation, xanthelasma (that is slowly dissipating), high liver enzymes, insomnia from hell, extremely weak digestion (unable to eat anything but fresh lamb, unable to eat past 18:00), histamine issues, etc. that I experienced in high fat high / high liver carnivore. Would steaks and water be any different? It’s probably worth the try but I seem unable to be convinced enough to do it. So, I am torn in this regard and consider beans, meat and rice attractive (most of the time) and only a problem when certain mood strikes.

I am just recommending an elimination diet to get back on track, given what you wrote before.

What is the best source for detailed claims by Karen Hurd about beans?

@jeremy, … and you certainly have a point. However, I have been eating the same food for a very long time, so I am not sure that food was what affected me the most. I blame it “on weather”, moon phases and spring around the corner…🤔

I have followed Karen’s bean protocol which I modified to be very low in VA. (Basically meat, beans and veg). There is a Facebook group or two with people doing her protocol; her many videos, her own testimony of recovering her daughter. And then of course there are people who experienced healing and tell the story.
Like everyone who uses research studies to form an opinion, she can be shortsighted in some aspects, or at least I think so. But her theory and experience of the soluble fibre and its bile clearing abilities is compelling and seems to work.

@jaj Which brand/type of flushing niacin are you testing with?  thanks

Even the infamous Ray Peat has noted that ANY source of fiber, including beans, have the function of removing toxic bile and keeping bile from re-circulating. His position on beans is that they have downsides to their use. He stated that is why he recommends carrots as a "safe" fiber to remove estrogen and other toxins from the body via the bile. However, there are obviously downside to carrots, or at least orange carrots.

Feb. 26, 2002

Just completed a week of an experiment of having meat and beef only and no rice. I noticed increased dryness in my nostrils, even more tartar on my teeth than I usually get and I have been feeling rather heavy and tired. Today I added some rice and noticed in the evening that my nostrils are slightly more moist. (But I am questioning if this is actually possible or is it my wishful thinking? ). My nasal dryness started on a carnivore diet, so I am beginning to think that maybe lowering the amount of meat and increasing the carbs would be something to try.

16 March 2022,

What a change (for the better) from my last report. My sleep is once again great after a few months of struggling to fall asleep. My energy is also much improved and I have to say, things are looking up!
There is no change in tinnitus; anosmia still persist although I do get some phantom smells occasionally.

I introduced some new supplements:

*Allithiamine 100mg - I really like it and I think it is behind my sleep improvements. I read that it helps with anosmia and what wouldn’t I try to get my smell back?
*Quinton Marine Plasma - glorified sea water. I am trying this a second time and not sure it does anything. Maybe it’s subtle…
*Magnesium (Taurate, Malate, Threonate) - increased the dose and it feels good.
*Potassium - 99mg because even with the increased magnesium I still get a foot cramp when stretching.
*Liposomal Vitamin C - I like this one much more that ascorbic acid. I take 2000mg per day and so far no blood blisters.
* Marine collagen - works magic for my joints.
*Iodine - topically for years and orally before that as per Dr David Brownstein protocol.
*Strophanthus - in eternal hopes to resolve stable angina.
*Amyloban (Lion’s main) -started today.  Latest research points to anosmia resulting from some brain damage post flu. True or false, I am forever hopeful and Amyloban has been developed to improve brain functions.

This is a lot of supplements for someone who is trying to minimise them…

And I do wonder if the periods of insomnia and un-wellness are just the parts of the VA detox and the supplements have little to do with it.

Sounds like you are a Tom Cowan fan, other than the fact that he doesn't discuss vitamin A toxicity.

@jeremy, Yes I am but - I knew about strophanthus and Quinton water long before I knew about Tom. He wrote one of his books with Sally Fallon Morell, the Weston A. Price Foundation president, so it will be a long way before he learns anything about VA.

Yeah, Tom Cowan seems to believe that modern science's consensus views on cancer, heart disease, vaccines and viruses are all wrong yet science's consensus views on certain micronutrients are all correct.
