Vitamin D Toxicity and Retinol Relationship
Quote from Jiří on May 20, 2020, 4:48 am@jaj I am talking about people in general not just about you. In your case you should say from the start that you can have plenty of sunshine for D. That is the best scenario for sure and you don't need to tell me that sunshine is not just about D3. You said that it doesn't make sense to you that people need to supplement for good health. I really don't know what is so hard to understand that there is A LOT of people who can't have enough D3 from the sun? Simply it is not an option for them due to many reasons. Like they are living where is not enough UVB most months in a year. They are inside working in the hours when they should be harvesting D from the sun, they are black and living in places like Russia, Canada, Sveden etc.. For them is ONLY OPTION TAKE VIT D3 Caps.. What is so hard to understand this? It is good keep in mind that everything what humans are doing the last 100-150 years is everything but natural. Evolution can't keep up with so rapid and drastic changes. Therefore if you wanna stay healthy we need to use our "biohacks" to survive this madness...

It is nice that you have a phD and that you studied vit A toxicity for 2 years. But you didn't answered any of my simple questions.

One only gets Hypervitaminosis D through megadosing but it will go away after a few months of supplement avoidance. Vitamin K2 and magnesium are antidotes. Vitamin A can also act as an antidote because it interferes with D at cellular receptors. Taking A would be fighting fire with napalm though.
The Weston Price and Chris Masterjohn always talk about balancing the fat solubles, and I've seen various theories of what might be good. However, I like the way you put it here, Tim. Why would we "balance" something with a thing that is known to be inflammatory? Doesn't sound fun to me.
I think it's best to get your D directly from the sun, and let the body handle how much to make, I've heard you won't overload this way.
I also think there may be a component of the brightness of the light that also works with the D to help get rid of or destroy the A. It might not just be the D alone.
People use light boxes in arctic zones and I don't think they give vit D but they still help health a lot.
I'm sunning whenever possible (even when it is 20 degrees F) and consider it an enjoyable part of my healing journey.

Quote from lil chick on May 20, 2020, 10:33 amHi @jaj! I'm sad if you deleted your comments because I get a LOT from them!
I want to say that LARD was how northern people got vit D in winter in the olden days. Lard from pigs that laid around in the sun now and then. Lard is an amazing fat that way: low in A, high in D (when it isn't confinement lard). And yes fish too.
This is the major and important change that has happened to European (and other ) diets. They changed lard!!!!
Personally, if I was a darker skinned person, I would not live at Northern Latitudes. Your super power is to live where I can't! I'd burn up in 5 minutes in tropical climes.
Old-fashioned lard can be found, but you will probably need to find a local pig producer and see for yourself if they get outside.

Quote from lil chick on May 20, 2020, 10:38 amPeople here have talked about not being able to "tolerate" the sun.
I was in this category, but now I think about the whole thing another way. It 's a detox, and a strong one.
The sun was destroying vitamin A in my skin and eyes and causing detox.
IMO, if you try, you can harness sunshine as therapy IF you can keep your dosage tiny and controlled and space it out over time.
What you will see is that your "tolerance" increases as the detox progresses. Because there is less A there to detox.
These are all just theories of mine and shouldn't over-ride doctors orders.

Quote from lil chick on May 20, 2020, 10:48 amJiri, I think another option is sun bulbs, I think Mercola has sold them. Or tanning salons?
I live in New England though and I got through last winter very well just sunning on the edge of the snow field in a lawn chair! In my boots and coat. I think you need to get your hair into the sun... no hat... IMO the oil in the hair makes that D...
I feel bad for anyone that works a job that doesn't allow them at least 10 mintues outside at lunch... I once had a job in which you were, by law, given breaks but the mean boss would frown on you for actually TAKING THEM. When I left that job she got an earful from me. What a stress head and a horrible work environment.

Quote from lil chick on May 20, 2020, 10:53 amthis is an aside regarding something @tim-2 mentioned.
I think there may also be other reasons not to be dark skinned besides vitamin D. Perhaps something about bottlenecks during the ice age created diets devoid of certain minerals that are used to color the skin. There are also lots of white animals from the European regions: white farm dogs, white goats, white chickens etc. Perhaps copper. I've heard white goats are copper sparing.
