How does Accutane work?

Yeah I have oily skin, I have to use a tissue or towel to blot away the sebum on my nose through the day... No acne though. It will be interesting to see what happens as we start to really deplete our liver retinol stores. The improvement of my seb derm has been like an inverted log chart, very fast at the start, I have a very minor amount of it lingering but it continues to improve. It is connected to sebum output so hopefully I'll start to see a reduction in sebum output at some point.

Given B5 works so well, CoA must be playing a major role. I can't really think of any way to test the thyroid theory, I'm basically just crossing my fingers and hoping that if it is correct that lowering VA stores will normalize thyroid function.

@tim-2 "I can't think of any other reason iodine would cause acne?"

Detoxing other halogens? Or simply faster metabolism = faster detox of everything, organs can't keep up so the body will use "third kidney" the skin to release waste..

Yeah both of those are possibilities. My understanding is fluoride is normally excreted or deposited in bones though, I'm not sure how much resides in tissues. Halogen detox with iodine causing acne is just another "internet fact" to me until I spend hours researching it. I know fluoride goes to the brain and tissues and lowers IQ but my understanding is it bioaccumulates in bone. Plenty of people with acne seem to have an allergy to fluoride that exacerbate their acne though... Different possibilities here.

@tim-2  I have tested so many diets, supplements... that this is the last experiment.  Completed 1.5yrs, and will give it another 1.5yrs, like you healing seemed fast at the beginning and now moving more slowly.

Also I have tested all the thyroid supps, T3, NDT, T4, got pulse and temps up and experimented with these for months, years, no change it acne.

The last symptoms I have are: oily skin, hair shedding, and better sleep.    Oily skin is the most bothersome though, hate how it feels, having waxy/greasy skin few hours after showering.   I rarely get pimples, it is mostly all plugged pores, blackheads and sebaceous filaments, on face and upper shoulders now.   Skin is way way better than before low VA, but still not 100%.   Time will tell.

Hair shedding seems to slow and speed up, full thick healthy looking hairs falling out every day and seems as though they don't start growing again.   Definitely not thinning or miniaturization of hairs, shedding of healthy vibrant hairs, but my hair has been doing this way before I tested low VA, hoping it will stop, and regrow a little, but really hair is so complicated, doubt it will!

Oily skin and MPB are major issues I have gone to great efforts to try to resolve too. I studied so much and I ended up giving up years ago. Then when I quit my "healthy diet program" and just ate what I wanted to (I was still brainwashed by WAPF and made some effort to get some VA foods, my VA intake dropped right down though) my MPB slowed right down. The massive benefits I've seen from low VA are enough for me to live a normal life so if low VA doesn't fix oily skin (permanent plugged pores on nose) then I guess I'll just have to live with it. Yeah looking in the mirror a few hours after a shower to see pools of sebum on each pore on my nose isn't fun... I've lost minimal hair in years, my MPB may even be at a standstill now but I don't have any indication of any regrowth.

Based on the progress I'm seeing and knowing how Hypervitaminosis A effects so much of our biochemistry I do have a lot of hope for improvement with these issues though.

@tim-2  Agreed, right now is a waiting to see how the low VA marathon plays out.

One of the most common ways to fight acne and rosacea is to give antibiotics.  Could it be that these drugs are simply reducing the germ population?  I'm of the opinion that vitamin A is "a weapon".  Pigments, in nature, are part of the immune system of a plant.

@tim-2 I have exactly the same issues with my nose + if I rub my skin on nose I will loke like lizard during shedding process.. I had really bad acne. Like from 13yo to 20-22 I had all kinds of forms of acne.. Now my face is clean for the most part and I have periods where I will have a lot of white heads or small red acne and periods when my face skin looks really clean and smooth. Besides that fucking nose that is always oily with clogged pores heh.. I know for sure that most of my acne was from leaky gut(cystic acne after eating casein or gluten..) Once I started with bodybuilding diet rice and meat my acne was 90% better.. Now when I detox vit A I think that my small intestine is still in very bad shape.. I think it is the same for the body like when I eat that vit A..

@lil-chick

Retinoic acid is anti viral, it directly inhibits viral replication which explains why our body floods our bloodstream with it during a virus. It doesn't seem to have a direct effect on bacteria, retinaldehyde does though for some species.

It's very frustrating. I got an oily nose very young before other issues like seb derm and mild rosacea showed up. Based on the order of when these things affected me Im hoping it will eventually leave like the others have.

When I was a kid we always used vitamin A & D ointment  and it worked exactly the same as an antibiotic ointment.  I'm pretty sure it contained cod liver oil back then.  Yes, a quick look at one type and it does.  WAPF'ers rub cod liver oil on everything too.

Vitamin A And D Ointment - Pale Yellow Ointment Fougera/sandoz ...

CLO on the skin? Yuck.

I have used hydrogen peroxide for seb derm and tooth decay for a long time, I couldn't do without it, I'm a big fan. Yeast and bacteria cannot develop a resistance to it either.

Derma-quacks warn against it but I've never seen any negative effects from its use.

H2O2 is worth trying for facial acne. It will bleach the skin for a few hours, it then goes away. I use a spray bottle to spray it onto my face and scalp, I need it less and less on the low VA diet though.

I use 6% H2O2.
