Copper and CERULOPLASMIN

It also seems that things that slow down ALDH, such as caffeine, wheat and Ascorbic acid tend to cause gray hair in people.
Wheat slows down ALDH?
Wheat or gluten, Grant published a study in another thread:
It seems a bit presumptious to draw that conclusion from such a study, it could also be that wheat protein is just not a good substitute for animal protein, rather than the wheat protein actually slowing down ALDH. Does anyone have the full study? It's not on scihub.
I agree that more information is needed. Anyway, according to people's observations, wheat(gluten? glyphosate?) can cause (trigger) gray hair.

I had to do at least 5 to make any sense from it, but just by this one test it's good that you don't have high copper with low ceruloplasmin. Like I had. THat would mean high toxic free copper in the blood.. Both ceruloplasmin and copper low that could mean that in liver is plenty of copper, but because the liver can't make more ceruloplasmin the copper is low or it can simply mean that your body doesn't need more copper at that moment.. If ceruloplasmin is sky high that would mean the body is fighting some infection or some other pathogens.. But like I said if you don't have history of copper deficient diet(which is almost impossible..) or history of supplementing copper antagonists in high doses like vit C, zinc, molybdenum for a long time. Most likely you have plenty of copper in the liver, but liver doesn't make more ceruloplasmin due to issues with the liver or adrenals. Because adrenals have to give a signal to the liver to make more ceruloplasmin.. This scenario is true for most people at this time.. I would say.. It would be great to see the hair test as well if calcium is high, molybdenum low etc.. That would tell for sure that the body is under stress and that creates issues with copper metabolism..

Quote from Retinoicon on April 26, 2022, 11:59 amA new copper guru is on the scene: Jason Hommel. He has written a lengthy book advocating high-dose copper supplementation. On his Facebook group, he announced he and his wife (who also posts) have recently gone on Grant's low vitamin A diet while sticking to their extensive set of supplements.
@jiri, it would be good for you or others familiar with copper to comment on the high-dose approach of Hommel.

Quote from Jiří on April 26, 2022, 12:20 pm@jeremy What can I say. It is stupid idea taking a lot of copper. Copper is basically in every food. It's very hard to eat low copper diet exactly like low vit A diet.. Copper has to be in balance with other minerals. Taking copper can feel good(because it is stimulant for the adrenals and nervous system) until it does not..

OK. The guy doesn't seem dumb though so I will read his book.

Quote from Hermes on April 26, 2022, 1:09 pmThis is from the blurb on Amazon (I bolded some parts):
Copper is needed by every cell, every tissue, every organ in the human body. Most of the healing functions of what copper does can be directly traced to copper being essential to the functioning of copper-containing enzymes. Copper helping to build collagen alone makes copper a widely important function for nearly all body tissues; especially bone and muscles. Copper increases ATP for energy, which is essential for growth, recovery, healing, and feeling great. Copper is essential for nerve functioning, and especially brain functioning. We need copper for hormones and neurotransmitters. We need copper for better circulation, and the heart, lungs, liver, and every major organ, including the pancreas to prevent diabetes. We need copper for the immune system, and germ killing. Copper is non-toxic and safe at levels studied up to 20 mg/day, and likely safe at levels above that.
Copper deficiency causes a widely diverse array of problems, nearly all of which are the flip side of the copper-containing enzymes not functioning well. Athletes are especially prone to copper deficiency. A wide array of both nutrients and toxins block copper.
Iron is used in many packaged foods to "fortify" them, and iron blocks copper.
Fluoride blocks copper and most people have far more fluoride than copper in their bodies, 2600 mg fluoride compared to 72 mg copper, and it should be the other way around.
The government has conducted nearly fraudulent studies, and no further real studies, to establish both their RDA and UL for copper, and should be completely ignored until they conduct actual science and testing that can be repeated by others.
Nearly everything people die from is, at least in part, from copper deficiency.
Copper can cure the symptoms that lead people to take 49 out of the top 50 drugs, except the mineral potassium.
Copper Toxicity is a fraudulent and mistaken concept. Copper is toxic at 20,000 mg, not at 2 mg. There are no viable scientific mechanisms of action for a low level of copper toxicity.
Unless you eat a lot of liver, you need a copper supplement.
The best copper supplement is copper sulfate, and the price is so low, it's nearly free.
While many supplements block copper, the synergy is stronger and more important. Know the levels of the nutrients you need, and don't just take a multi-mineral that has all the minerals and vitamins way out of balance.
Taking very high levels of copper, 30-100 mg, can lead to a few mild nutritional deficiencies of Vitamin C, Zinc, Niacin, and perhaps molybdenum.
When taking copper, start slow, and scale-up, and do not neglect the other nutrients.
I think the very long list of positive things copper does for us, is also another refutation of copper toxicity.
I think the number of diseases, most of them major, associated with copper deficiency, is another strong refutation of copper toxicity.
It is not beyond the realm of possibility the declining culture and changes in societal values are a reflection of the worsening copper deficiency among the population.
After you read my book, you will be an expert on how copper heals.
As a copper-deficient population begins taking copper to get healthier than ever, this should start the copper revolution.
I know too little to argue his claims of copper toxicity being bogus on lower levels of supplementation. Anyway, he's not the first to point out the importance of copper, at least Jeff Bowls supplements with high copper too (he's the author of two books I know of. In one he propagates high melatonin supplementation, in the other he argues for larger dosages of vitamin D (up to 100'000 IU he claims to have tried himself).
So maybe there is something to be gained by people who struggle with the low-vA-diet alone and need some additional support for healing, and copper might be one of the missing pieces. Following the discussion above, I reduced beef heart consumption and stopped supplementation of copper all together. Instead of going lower, I would feel better going higher?

Somebody from Smith's site asked me about this guy. I watched him read the introduction to his book on his YouTube channel.
My initial impression is that he is leaning way too hard on his own n=1 experience. He doesn't seem to have a background in the sciences, he doesn't have clinical experience...he seems to have primarily stumbled across something that made him feel better and is now extrapolating from that one point to suggest that pretty much everybody could use more copper.
I'm not saying there's nothing useful in his book, I haven't read it. But his entire understanding of nutrition seems to revolve around copper, it's too one-sided. Morley Robbins is a bit too zealous about copper as well, but at least he's covered a lot more nutritional bases than this Hommel guy.

Quote from Jiří on April 26, 2022, 11:06 pm@jeremy @christian it is really sad if somebody like that who has no idea about copper metabolism makes books and says to people taking copper pills like it's candy is a great idea without any consequences.. It's also sad how it's end with people like that when they start to have serious health issues due to their "misjudgment". They just disappear and don't have balls to tell "oh boy I was wrong. Sorry guys..."
Yes copper is important. But the issue with copper is that it is not about the copper itself because we need so little. It is about making sure that this copper that we eat in small amounts from the diet can be used by our body which means the body can make ceruloplasmin. If somebody thinks that taking more and more copper will give him more things that are made from copper then clearly this person has bad understanding of copper metabolism.. There is so many people like him. Who doesn't see full picture. They just focus on one thing for some reason and see this one thing everywhere. Run away from people like that...
