Eggs as part of Vitamin A reduction
Quote from Andrew B on December 15, 2022, 8:05 am@audrey Sourdough bread and quinoa have betaine which helps the detox also (saves choline being converted to betaine). Quinoa is particularly high in betaine so I dont need to eat much. I really thinks it's the fibre, protein and fat in other foods that might be pushing the detox. So you dont need as much protein food as absorption improves. Or zinc or other supplements. Feeling full is a good sign eg not craving so much beef any more was one sign for me. The choline in eggs improves the detox. It's slightly stronger but safer at a guess because long term problems have resolved yet keep fat too high in other foods and there are signs like heartburn.
I cut back other things but my priority is fixing the leakiness and replenishing choline so I try to keep eggs as high as needed. I knew I was detoxing because my digestive system kept improving. About 8 months of 4 eggs and back to childhood normality. The severity of my eczema and the itching has gone down. The eczema is no longer so bad in certain places and slight in many places. Some other things have healed related to parasympathetic activity which ties in with digestion also. I feel calmer and less anxious. Sleep is a bit better.

Quote from Audrey on December 15, 2022, 8:40 am@andrew-b Thank you once again, your support really helps. I am glad you are experiencing many positive changes. I have also noticed that I feel fuller quicker and need less food at each meal. Mood is still better than ever, sleep is great and I am also supplement free. It is mostly the anxiety I still feel at times, which I relate to still needing to cut back on bread/fat. I'm feeling positive.

I saw my brother absolutely pounding eggs as an old-school body builder in the early '80's and not long after that he went type 1 diabetic. (ie the so-called auto-immune version).
At around the same time he was working with hazardous chemicals so probably his detox pathways were busy.
My brother almost died as a baby, so there were other extenuating circumstances. (possibly his early infection already attacked his pancreas)
However, I don't think you should fill up the blender with a dozen eggs each day! As they say, the poison can be in THE DOSE.

Quote from Audrey on December 15, 2022, 10:55 amThis might be me veering a bit off topic but what you say @lil-chick about nature understanding and giving the antidote reminds me of when I used to still eat pumpkin. I don't think I will ever eat pumpkin again, unless it's maybe a piece of pumpkin pie one day, but I do remember when I ate pumpkin I always pooped amazingly afterwards, which is a great thing. This memory helps remind me to not be afraid of food.

Oh, you're not the only one who's tried PKD and had reactions bad enough to quit! There was another forum member here who tried PKD 100% strict and suffered horribly before finally giving it up. I think she said she was on another forum with people who had tried PKD and had it blow up in their face.
That clinic surely does amazing things, but they seem to have a blind spot just like almost every other person/group out there. It's quite possible that their cancer patients or other extremely sick patients do benefit from liver and other organs, at least for some period of time, but it seems like they don't understand that liver does pose serious problems for some people depending on their dietary or pharmaceutical history.

Yes I would agree. They definitely do not consider Retinol to be problematic and they will not discuss it.
The PKD improves intestinal permeability on a PEG 400 test which i'm sure is a big factor in the success of the patients. The prolonged periods patients spend in ketosis also seems to be important. Perhaps it's just the case that these patients have not reached dangerous levels of retinol yet. I started after taking Accutane so it's a completely different story.

Quote from Andrew B on December 16, 2022, 2:43 amThese were my thoughts when I started my eggs experiment with 4 eggs I was conscious that in low vit A world I'd be approaching 1,000 IUs of Vit A about (1/3 of RDA for whatever purpose that serves). I also was aware the lutein might become moderately high too with 'good' absorption above 5 eggs a day (about 250 mcgs per large egg). I didn't want to get into other problems with high consumption so I limited the eggs to 5 a day.
Another issue with high eggs above 5 a day is effect on gut microbiome of a mono diet and the knock on effect of reducing other foods on the microbiome. It might have unknown consequences whereas 4 a day by weight is 200 grams may be a 1/4 or 1/5 of total daily dietary weight. Dietary cholesterol is higher in eggs than meat also although this is different from endogenous production I still felt some caution might be a good idea not to derail the experiment. I got what I thought was a good choline amount somewhere around 900 mgs per day so why push the risks of higher consumption. Selenium is high in eggs and about 14 eggs a day going above 200 mcgs a day might eventually cause problems. It could also be helpful on a detox but 4 eggs a day does get your daily value so nothing too excessive unless other sources are high.
Another issue is calcium in eggs given we have a possible low magnesium high calcium problem from high Vit A. It's sometimes difficult to get the magnesium in our bodies so I dont want too much calcium. Currently 300 mgs of calcium 400 mgs magnesium a day working well. So 11 eggs a day might push the calcium to double that relative to magnesium. Eggs are slightly high in phosphorus and again perhaps 10 eggs a day depending on other foods might just push this too high. Possibly important with so much detoxing affecting the kidneys.
I also prefer a slow approach and it has paid dividends through patience. Eggs provide other nutrients that may help cell membranes like a small amount of Vitamin E and sphingomyelin. Some people might have acteylcholine dysregulation and again some caution at increasing too quickly. Too much might explain some poor reactions. Bearing in mind I'd already been eating 1-2 eggs a day for over 2 years throughout the detox. I never got detox setback which I think in some people is low choline. Pushing the detox too hard and too much leakiness. Choline helps fix the leakiness but not so many eggs that you affect gut microbiome balance which may be another factor in intestinal permeability.

Quote from Andrew B on December 16, 2022, 6:02 am@jessica2 yes, there shouldn't be suffering from too sharp a detox and healing should take place at a reasonable pace. Healing my digestive system of 40 years of only working 75% is probably quite reasonable or even fast in 8 months. I did also have to slow the detox down as well as with eggs it got a bit faster and absorption improved of detox promoters. Yes, I dont think this detox needs to involve pain or suffering. There are inconveniences though like itching, gunk coming out the eyes in the morning, skin peeling at first, constipation sometimes at first and so on.

Andrew, I'm just curious about your use of soluble fiber is in the detox? I ask because I just have problems with soluble fiber, whether it's activated charcoal, bean, etc. Can the body detox without a significant amount of it?
