Hi @andrew-b,

Just adding some more evidence for choline being beneficial.

In this patent they are using choline and other factors as a "rescue agent" against poisoning from RA.

USPATENT4649040

Here's the patent pdf.

I wonder what the mechanism that is involved here.

These compounds either help removal of RA or mitigate damage caused by RA.

RA, from what I understand, cannot be stored in the liver, unlike Retinol esters. So these compounds are not storing the RA that is in circulation.

I feel it is most likely due to increased methylation as all of these compounds are involved in this process.

@arios it seems that you can offset methionine intake with some extra glycine. We need good amount of glycine for collagen synthesis anyway so I take glycine powder 3-6g a day..

@armin - it’s culty over there - it certainly is!!  I’ve been involved with Garrett Smith’s programme since the end of 2018 when his vA detox started. However, mid 2021 I started to disassociate myself from his ideas as I didn’t agree with him on sulphur or B vitamins (or his sneering attitude). He tried to stop me speaking my truth. Then he started adding supplements that I didn’t agree with. His latest behaviour has been the last straw.

I’m interested in the truth. I’m interested in scientific open discussion of theories in a respectful way. The vA detox has made me ill. The science is certainly not settled. Some do well. Others don’t. Why? Choline deficiency ticks a lot of boxes. It needs investigating not shutting down. Thank goodness for Grant and his open attitude to discussion. Much respect.

I'm sure you are referring to his endorsement of MMS, correct, when you speak of supplements that Garrett was adding?

When people disagree with him, he pulls the "it's my site and I have the right to ban ones, etc" and while I do get that, he also advertises that his network has all these people working together, sharing what works and what doesn't. I have a problem with that last part. He really doesn't allow ones to share information if it is on his forbidden list. False Advertising.

I don't know his concrete opinion on B vitamins but I get the idea that he is trying to whittle away as many things as possible as non essential.

@armin yes definitely ‘false advertising’. The project used to be like that, which is why I was happy to be involved despite some red flags. However, it’s become a cult and a sales forum, where whatever the cult leader says is correct (even though it’s often not) and must be accepted without challenge. I find it very sad as it could be such a useful resource. But it’s not.

@arios I’m very interested in the topic you bring up and have been researching it. However, it’s new to me so I haven’t got it all worked out yet. As far as I can work out its the inhibitors that block the enzyme - cholinesterase - that breaks down acetylcholine at the synapses, that are the problem. Nightshades seem to be some of the worst cholinesterase inhibitors in the diet. If the only thing choline did was make acetylcholine then avoiding it would be fine but it’s essential for methylation and most importantly for cell membrane health. If the body is short of choline it apparently steals from cell membranes. Not ideal. Some people have good genetics for making choline but PEMT SNPs are very common. Also men and postmenopausal women don’t make so much, as PEMT stimulated by oestrogen. I think it’s an important area to understand. Excess acetylcholine at synapses can stimulate glutamate receptors apparently and I don’t want that. However, I don’t think going low choline is the best way (as far as I’ve understood so far).

I caught the tail end of Dr. Smith's Friday LYL podcast on youtube. He mentioned that he's going to specifically go after the 'eggs are good for VitA detox' claims being made recently.

So bored of his child like behaviour. This is not some competition as to who is right. We are trying to get to the scientific truth here of what is going on, to help people.

My liver test results from 2020 after 2 years on the vA diet correlated with the picture you’d expect for choline deficiency (very raised ALT, doubled triglycerides). I was told ‘detox is tough’. If I was choline deficient then, then no wonder I’m in a mess now. Dismissing the data on this is unacceptable imo.

Maybe this is why I had such a terrible reaction to a bit of lecithin + PC. It felt like I was drugged by a BAD drug. It felt like ingesting a spoonful of MSG. I don't think it could have been Covid, not only because I tested negative (I agree entirely with @jessica2 as to the unreliability of the tests), but also because my husband had the same effect from the lecithin, and he is away from me at the moment so could not have caught Covid at the same time as I would have.

I feel that we are trying to fiddle with the ANS here, and that this fiddling through unwanted supplementation in foods is what brought us here in the first place. @ggenereux2014 has solved the problem elegantly with his very simple diet. For the moment we shall go on with this, which has brought very good results, if slow. Results that NOTHING else has brought.

Yes I agree. Humans have been eating eggs for a very long time, I don't see how a few eggs here and there could be causing mayhem.
