Eggs as part of Vitamin A reduction
Quote from Andrew B on December 10, 2022, 2:10 am@chris-4 yes, an egg yolk weighs 17 grams. There's 245 IUs of Vitamin A in a large egg yolk. Dr Smith enjoys egg whites but thinks a 17 gram egg yolk is going to derail the detox. Well, you don't have a very strong detox in that case. Let's take a guess a healthy person might be detoxing 15,000 IUs of Vitamin A a day. Again, how is 245 IUs of Vitamin A going to derail that ?
And leaving aside the negativity from Dr Smith my life has changed for the better with the 4 eggs. The detox is still strong too. Choline replenishment has been the answer for me. Grant Genereux wants a better answer to how to detox safer and more effectively. Well, I did 1-2 eggs throughout most of the detox and it was less traumatic for me. Only when I overdid the beans did I run into problems and need to dig deep. My investigations led me to choline and betaine. Over 20 years experimenting and I trust my intuition on this one and the results. The detox never skipped a beat. Best thing I've ever done. 4 was my number needed. Doesnt apply to everybody. And other choline sources might be better for those with sulfur/sulfite problems.
6 page pdf of 62 year old protein malnourished man on 4,000 IUs per day of vitamin A and succeeding in reducing liver levels. There may be some redistribution throughout the body that was mentioned before in this forum. But I dont think it fully explains the improvement. https://www.gastrojournal.org/article/0016-5085(82)90132-9/pdf?fbclid=IwAR3D-StJc4YpYxzr5IKE7bzkBbBsg-25NCqsxPStVdxccP8wZgprdZPLP8g

Quote from Orion on December 10, 2022, 7:57 amCholine supp 460mg every other day, brought on lots of negatives; extreme fatigue, puffy under eyes, worsen skin breakouts, disturbed sleep. Might have been too much too fast.
Single egg most days for the last week, and all seems to be good so far, taking this very slowly.
Big thanks to everyone contributing to these choline threads. Like Andrew I think I ran into problems after going heavy on beans.

Quote from Chris on December 10, 2022, 9:23 am@andrew-b Yeah, Dr. Smith thrives on being a contrarian and it gives me pause as to his interpretation of some things. Oh, and I also had really bad problems with beans.

With the beans, how heavy is "heavy"? More than the amount Grant Genereux was taking in his posted diet? I forget the dry weight, but it came out to half a cup of dry beans per day.

Quote from Andrew B on December 11, 2022, 1:55 am@davidw For me it was 250 grams a day of cooked beans. I think also a factor was I wasnt having beef some days because I'd run out. Eating beans with beef always seemed preferable for me. Now I'm not having beans very often. It's possibly something to do with overdoing the folate when I was low in choline.

Quote from Orion on December 11, 2022, 12:42 pm@davidw I was eating beans, rice and beef for every meal, probably one cup cooked every day total. Having them every meal might have been abit too much for me.

Quote from Jenny on December 12, 2022, 7:52 amWell said @anna-2
The idea that any one person has a monopoly on being correct and can shut down discussion because he says so, is abhorrent to me and utterly unscientific. Grant has always been open to discussion and I really value that. I remember he welcomed Anika when she became ill on the detox. I now think I should have listened closely to Anika at that point as she in fact made very good points! I’ve made big mistakes by following a certain persons advice. I’m very willing to admit that. Mistakes are to be learnt from and that’s what I’m trying to do. As Anna says having a place where this can be freely discussed is excellent.

For a while I noticed I'd eat the rice beans and beef together and I'd crash; I'd have to take an afternoon nap. Then someone told me about food combining, basically it said eat to eat meat and starches a few hours apart. That did help. The beans can be eaten with the meat or the starches. Not sure what the science is on this, but maybe there are people here who can explain it.
