I'm a housewife who can't clean, I'm like a misfit toy.

It's really smart not to wear anything tight while sweating too. Gosh tomato sauce is my downfall, I really crave it. I've begun to think that all these studies showing health benefits from daily moderate drinking are done by alcoholics. hahaha
You are smart that you don't dye your hair, I think my PPD allergy started from getting my eyelashes dyed as a teenager 50 years ago. derp. I still haven't found the right bra yet.
Yeah I completely disregarded any study showing benefit to alcohol, but I think it's a good theory why it could show benefits in cultures that use a lot of naturally smoked food or aspartame or canned tomatoes everyday. If you eat those things everyday then you will suffer the consequences of formaldehyde causing breakdown of nerve sheaths and things like that. The cure for methanol poisoning is actually to get drunk! So it is a good theory. Canned tomatoes can be simmered for a few hours to get the methanol out, so there is hope to still eat them every now and then.
Wow your eyelashes! I didn't even know they could do that!

Yeah running around cleaning is a good way to get my stress hormones going. I also was super self conscious about how the chicken would taste. We chose to do breasts and skinless thighs and well they don't have as much flavor as the skin on bone in kind, but those take too long to cook and we've actually never tried! I guess we need to learn a new skill so I'm not worrying about serving dry chicken. I also hate cleaning! Actually it wasn't until very recent we finally started picking up more regularly so that it's not so much cleaning all at once. I was never taught that as a kid and my brain just gets too overwhelmed by too much at once, it's an executive functioning problem. Piecing it out into small tasks works much better.

Wow, could part of alcohol urges be about the methanol thingy?

I'm not sure if we can crave it for that reason, but if your diet contains a lot of methanol then it would be helpful for that.

Quote from Janelle525 on July 19, 2024, 3:45 pmI'm day 4 of my period and it's going so much better than the last 6 months. It was heavy the 2nd day with a couple small clots but that's way better than it had been with large clots, and by day 3 it was already at light frequency. The other months were really concerning, I had never experienced such bad clotting. I think I had a calcium and vitamin K deficiency. I'm not positive, but the only thing I changed was eating gouda most mornings and I also started eating kamut pasta instead of refined, but I had switched back in the last week, and then realized the kamut is a large part of why my stool has been so easy to pass so I'm going to eat that every day. I just have to be aware of calcium deficiency eating so many whole grains and beans. Also oxalates.
I had gotten bad dry eye towards the second half of my cycle, it may have been hormonal related I am not sure yet because it has mostly cleared up now after my period started. I was reading a lot about it and there can be a problem with the glands that produce the oil that keeps your tears from evaporating, the oil can get super thick and goopy and barely even come out. That might have been the reason as I know I was still producing tears it just felt like they weren't doing anything. It really concerned me. I will be testing out sunflower lecithin since I don't consume eggs. We will see how that goes. I think when we eliminate whole food groups it can cause problems. Especially for women. We lose blood every month and deal with hormonal ups and downs that men don't have to deal with. We can't base our health off the success of a diet for men.

All the methanol/formaldehyde info I've seen in the alternative health space contains significant errors.
The human body produces formaldehyde even when fasting, it's a byproduct of essential metabolic processes.
Eating an apple or some legumes will result in more formaldehyde exposure than drinking a diet coke and smoking a cigarette because methanol is liberated from pectin during digestion.

Yeah I tried finding as much info as I could, but there's not a lot of research so we don't really know if formaldehyde is a big risk from food or not. But I like researchers who connect dots to diseases, just like Grant and his research with vitamin A. Doesn't mean that they are 100% correct though. What do you think caused the MS problems in those small communities? Maybe Grant is right, it's the cod liver oil.
I have an aunt who died a vegetable from MS. Really awful way to die. She did a lot of canning, but I don't know a lot about her diet. Just remember seeing jars and jars of food in their basement. Apparently canned tomato sauce liberates most of the methanol. When we digest food though it may be less of a risk than directly consuming the methanol. Do you have research against that idea?
And yeah adrenaline also breaks down to formaldehyde so someone who is constantly in a state of fight or flight would be at risk of breaking down their myelin. My aunt was probably under high stress because we found out my uncle is abusive. So many facets to life! Definitely not just diet when it comes to disease.

The evidence is in the COT link at the bottom of the post.
Methanol is liberated from pectin. The only difference with ingested methanol is that the digestive tract from the mouth to the duodenum will be exposed to methanol.
There is no difference for the liver though.
It's clear that foods containing pectin will create some degree of liver stress as the toxicity of formaldehyde is well understood, even though it may not be very significant. Foods containing pectin are important sources of micronutrients in the human diet so it's a matter of balance. We can consume sufficient fruit vegetables and legumes and not far more than we need.
This is where I personally just rely on my instincts to guide me to a large extent. I don't have a desire to eat large quantities of pectin containing foods but I wouldn't want to cut them out either.

I didn't know that. Look at you with the esoteric health facts!
MS is autoimmune which means liver dysfunction related. Many causes may contribute to it including heavy metal exposure, latent viral infections and lack of sunlight.

Thanks for the link, I read through the whole thread, good thoughts there. I did look up whether juice was a big risk because I had been drinking juice for yrs and didn't want to get nerve or brain problems and I did find a study that calmed my fears because commercial juices remove a lot of the pectin. Apples give me a lot of gas and basically no reaction in my gut at all from apple juice so I have concluded clear apple juice is a low source. Can't remember how much was in OJ. But I stopped drinking juice 6 months ago. I think we do need to be wise about it, formaldehyde could be one cause for these diseases.
Monte said that about adrenaline, and I spent hours trying to find the source and couldn't confirm it completely, so we do have to take it with a grain of salt! I was worried my brain was destroyed from when I had panic disorder. I do think I'll never be in the same great health I was before I went through it. But I'm grateful for the healing that has happened. I do have to be careful not to be worried about every toxin out there! including ones our own body makes!
