B1 came. Also taking magnesium with it. Stammer (overthinking words / being lost for them) has been a pain in the arse this last month.

Will update with results. Should be quote noticeable if there is any

Some more info on getting B1 working via B2, this is a low dose approach using selenium and molybdenum salts:

Hi Keero - one of the links that bludicka (big thanks!) posted the other day has really been a fascinating read. I need to get Dr. Lonsdale's and Dr. Marrs' book to clarify some details, but there's a ton of great info in the posts and comment sections. It takes a lot of questions to get an approximation of the full-story out of Dr. Lansdale, but the nuggets are almost all there, if scattered a bit. This linked post of his, with 213 comments is a good starting point. It may help identify some things you might want to know. I've got a couple of experiments on myself and a friend in the works since reading a bunch of his thiamine-deficiency posts. I know I'm not "beri-beri deficient", but I'm looking forward to seeing what happens with the forms that easily pass the blood-brain barrier.

Navigating Thiamine Supplements

@Orion - I'm still gathering thiamine info, looking for an RA connection. There's so many thousands of papers on thiamine, and I've found that combinational searches at PubMed don't necessarily bring up everything one would like to view. Dr. Lonsdale has hypothesized that the systemic energy-deficiency, resulting from a lack of thiamine, is the root cause of autoimmune, as well as multi-symptom Beri Beri. I'd bet there's some evidence out there somewhere for a causal interaction that indicts RA, but so far that's just a speculation. Maybe they're two separate things, but it makes sense in terms of the overlap of certain symptomology and the fact that we know RA has quite a number of modes of destructive propensity. Since thiamine is not stored, [EDIT - found a paper that says it is stored up to 2 - 3 weeks worth] and if RA is involved in its depletion, that would just add a whole other layer of problems for someone overcoming VA-toxicity, since thiamine is essential for so many things. It might help explain some of our detox anomalies, and "good days - bad days" thing, depending on diet, especially if we're not supplementing anything. It also makes sense, that if RA can deplete folate, as one paper has shown, then it seems likely it might do the same to thiamine. I'll let you know if I find something useful.

@hillcountry I wonder if it is somehow related to B1 be used heavily by the ADH and ALDH systems, so we see B1, B2, B3, B12, molybdenum being depleted while the body is excreting VA.   Especially if the person has low protein(beef) intake and food with low molybdenum supply.   Vicious cycle until the VA is out.

Interesting idea for those of us detoxing VA. "Vicious cycle until the VA is out" - yes, that would sum it up. And there's also a connection there to Dr. Lansdale's stern take on both refined sugar and alcohol. Interesting bit from a 2019 paper - "AD [alcohol dependent] patients with thiamine (vitamin B1) deficiency at admission had significantly shorter TL [telomere length] than those with normal thiamine status".

On the ALDH2 side, I found a paper that reported upregulation of it due to lipoic acid, and it was interesting to note that Lipothiamine by Cardiovascular Research has 7.5mg of alpha lipoic acid in it. Double whammy perhaps, but some people describe scary reactions, which may be due to the ALA mobilizing mercury? per Andy Cutler's work. The thiamine alone can cause a good deal of symptomology, if one is long-term deficient, at least for a few weeks until the body adjusts per Dr. Lansdale.

This is so interesting (yet I agree on the annoyance factor as well!). I have noticed a very small stammer myself over the past months, sometimes worse, sometimes not at all - not sure if anyone else notices, but I've wondered repeatedly: what is going on?!

Relatedly yet on a slightly different topic: I would LOVE to stop all supplements, all of them, and be able to let my body balance things out. I started to wean us off of ours (mostly B vits and zinc) and then couldn't tell if symptoms were worsening or if it was a coincidence, so I chickened out. It's TOO complicated for my little monkey brain, and I want my body to be able to get nutrients from FOOD without my constant discoveries of new things we're deficient-in or in-excess-with.

*end of rant*

Totally agree Sarabeth & much safer I think. However, I suspect while detoxing our excess vitamin A we will need supplements to support the necessary enzyme systems or be very strict with out diet choices to include enough of the essential nutrients. Black beans are such a good source of B1 I wonder if including those every day as I think Grant does is a solution to getting enough B1?

sorry I never updated this.

I took B1 and magnesium 3x a day at the recommended dosage that was mentioned in the linked articles/website etc.

It had a profound effect on reducing my stammer in a very short amount of time. It was noticeable not only to me but also my colleagues and friends.

I don't think it was a placebo effect as Ive tried many things over the years to alleviate my stammer.

I'm taking it now, after a few months off, however without magnesium and I don't think its having the same impact.

@kiero Woah, amazing! 😁 Thanks for the update. I am glad it worked so quickly. (And yeah, I forget the details, but I think magnesium helps activate or utilize thiamin somehow?)

Dr Lonsdale recommends magnesium AND potassium together with B1.
