@tim-2 I started taking some lugol iodine again. Just one drop which should be 1,39mg a day in a glass of water and it gives me almost instantly "herx" reaction. Mild headache, vertigo, nausea, blurrd vision.. I know for sure that I have tonsils filled with some garbage and the rest of my lymphatic system as well and iodine has very strong antibacterial, anti fungal properties. + it is pushing bromine, chlorine, fluoride, even mercury from the tissues to the blood.. I think iodine is another big missing piece for me. Just taking like 100-150mcg from food is not enough for people like me filled with toxins and deficient at the same time.. I think taking big doses is stupid, but Japanese were eating on average 10-12mg a day. So I think around 10mg it is still safe and natural amount to take.. I will try slowly increase the dose if I can handle some more. But for now when just 1 drop gives me feelings like this that means the body is "dirty". A lot...

@jiri

I'm unsure about iodine in more than food amounts so that is why I just focused on reducing fluoride rather than increasing iodine. Seaweed and fish both contain bromine, hard to know whether that is problematic or not.

I wouldn't go higher than 10 mg.

My TSH is 1.9 which I'm pretty happy with, do you think that means I am iodine sufficient? I eat minimal bread (iodine fortified) and I never eat iodized salt. My only source of iodine is fish and I eat fish probably once every 2 days. I'm not really getting that much iodine.

@tim-2 I think that everybody should take at least 1mg a day from lugol solution.. For woman to prevent breast cancer they recommend 3-5mg. TSH 1.9 is not ideal. Under 1 looks like healthy number. I have 9 so.. 😀 Iodine is important to convert estradiol to smaller metabolites that the body can eliminate from the body. Also I was taking 7 years synthetic T4 which can deplete iodine.. It is interesting when I look back I "crushed" with severe hypothyroidsm when I was working hard in warehouse + was on low calorie bodybuilding cuttting diet. I had no iodine in my diet. I wasn't even using iodized salt at that time.. Maybe that is the reason why is my TSH so high for like 13 years now or even longer but I didn't know about that. I had hypothyroid symptoms as a kid for sure.. I think it is related to amalgams as well. Simply iodine another important micronutrient that is deficient in most people... I think 100 years a go it was enough to eat just sea food. But now with all the estrogens, heavy metals and other halogens around us. It makes sense to have much higher iodine intake. Around 5-10mg I would say is a good number if you start and 1-3mg as maintenance dose once you are no longer toxic in something and deficient at the same time..

@jiri

I like this chart. Yeah I see what you mean, I should aim for about 1.2. I might supplement with a small amount of iodine. If you are taking iodine you need to make sure you are getting adequate selenium. I would avoid large amounts of iodine as it seems to cause problems due to lack of sufficient selenium and you don't want to take high doses of selenium...

@tim-2 To me large doses are more than 10mg. People take 30-50mg. Yes that can cause issues but like I said under 10mg and around 3-5mg as maintenance dose it is very safe.. Simply I think people now need iodine in milligram daily dose not microgram dose... Btw I was looking at some older photos and I found some food photos like 3 years a go when I crushed so I started with diet like this that will help me for sure. 😀

Here is what I've seen with my eyes about iodine.  (I read Brownstein's iodine book and find it very good, however, I guess I don't live by it)

I've seen people end up with anxiety attacks (thinking they are having a heart attack) after a dose of lugols.  I suppose it is like you say Jiri--detox.  But that is detoxing too hard if you ask me.

I wonder about taking iodine orally, and think that perhaps it is better to paint it onto skin.  Unless you are TRYING to wipe out flora.

At about 40 I made a concerted effort to regulate my cycle.  I read a bunch of info put out by the people who do natural family planning.  (As you can imagine, normal cycles are important to them).  They were all taking a kelp pill daily or a multi vitamin with a similar dose of iodine in it.  I did the kelp pill, and I began to keep charts and I began to use light to help as well.  (nightlighting it is called).  I also made sure to eat fish once or twice weekly (this is a trad way to live, btw, and was part of my centanarian grandmother's up-bringing)

It was amazing how quickly my cycles did come into line.   They weren't easy or pain free.  But they were regular!  😉

So, personally, I would only be drinking lugols if I was battling something really bad, and I would probably read the book, utilize a salt and vitamin C protocol.  There used to be an e-list devoted just to iodine.  It was a lot like this e-list.  I don't know if it is still available to read, but I think it has stopped.  They knew all the co-factors that were needed to do a high iodine routine.  There were some really interesting success stories.

I have taken Jiri's suggestion about iodized salt and bought some.  I now use about half sea salt and half iodized.  I prefer sea salt, but wonder if hubs might need more iodine in his life.  I think if anything I'm a bit hyperthyroid.  But that is still upset thyroid.

I don't take kelp pills anymore.  Though, whenever I make soup, I always put a little kelp in it.

I think that the original yahoo iodine group is still there, but I'm not coming up with anyone you can contact.  I THINK they may have moved to facebook.  I can see that there is an iodine group there.

@lil-chick The dose makes the difference.. Brownstein will not recommend 1-5mg at once. He will recommend 30-50mg at once and when it is in liquid form it will be absorbed to the blood basically instantly. So of course people will feel bad.. You will feel bad from taking or eating anything that will increase the blood concentration a lot to fast.. Drink 100g of sugar at once and see how you feel. Does it mean that when 100g of sugar makes you sick. 1 tsp in coffee is also bad? 🙂 Food is ideal, because it will digest and absorb slowly.. But lugol solution drops in the water are absorbed instantly.. Btw I think transdermal use is also great. It will absorb slowly.. Lugol is the best source of iodine. It is cheap has both forms iodine and iodide and you can use it orally, or transdermally(also for all kinds of skin issues, not just for supplementing iodine..) Like I said if you use normal dose like 3-5mg there is nothing to worry about..

@tim-2 So like I said that I will retest my serum copper once I will not feel that crazy stimulation from "copper dump". I had this "I don't want to do anything" feeling last couple of days. So I did serum copper test again and exactly like I expected. During my "copper dump" my serum copper was 26,9 umol/l. Now my serum copper is low again 12,1 umol/l ref range 12,4-20,6. What is great ceruloplasmin is up from o,20 g/l to 0,25 g/l ref range 0,20-0,60 g/l... So now my toxic free copper is 0,3 umol/l ref range 0,0-1,6.. For me it is clear info that I am copper toxic for sure. It is really cool to know that after so many years of thinking about it 24/7 if I have symtpoms of copper deficiency from true copper deficiency or copper toxicity.. Now I can stop thinking about it and  just keep lower copper diet and take copper antagonists like vit C, zinc, chromium, molybdenum, manganese.. Eventually I should dump more and more copper and that should give my adrenals opportunity to heal, which should increase ceruloplasmin production. So there will be more bioavailable copper. So no more copper deficiency symptoms like white hair, spider veins, low melanin, loss of collagen in all tissues etc.. This With low vit A diet and I think in year or two I can have completely brand new body.  🙂

@jiri  what is your low copper diet, does rice, beans, beef work for this?  thanks
